Opinions Desired: Tanker or Corrupter for Teams?

Hey folks!

I'm not really an alt kind of person.

I generally have a main character that I play for a long time, then switch it up.

I'm moving on to a new character idea!

It's going to be a druid/primal sort of character.

However, I'm torn between Dark/Nature Corrupter and Dark/Savage Tanker.

Are either more desired on teams?

What do folks prefer to see?

The stats show Corrupters as slightly less played than Tankers, so that's a plus.

Any insight in helping me tip the scales would be wonderful!

Thanks ahead.

When you're on a tanker, you'll want a corruptor.

When you're on a corruptor, you won't have a tanker.

Ahem.

Anyways, for most content it doesn't really matter - you'll probably find a lot of groups lack someone willing to just jump in and go. And there are still a lot of people that like playing "Healz." That being said, most teams will welcome both.

If you want a more fast paced play, go the tanker. If you want a slower pace, play the corruptor.

I should clarify that you can build tanky on either -- There's this lovely little Sonic corruptor on TB named Howling Fury who does groups all the time... and unless there's a tank, my CORs always end up with his disruption because I just go. lol.

You're going to dish out far more damage with a dark/savage tank than you will that dark/nature corruptor. You'll be silly safe with either.

The real question is whether you want to sit at range and be safe/buff the team or dive into the shit and keep the team safe that way.

I think both would be amusing. But really, that last point, which do YOU think you'd have more fun with? That's the only thing that's important.

Don't know if this would factor into your decision, but most of the time (not ALWAYS, but most of the time), people on teams will have certain expectations out of your Tank.

Nobody expects anything out of a Corruptor.

But really, awesome ink. Very slick.

To everyone else; Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the thoughts!

I already have a Mace/Shield tanker, but another one in a more savage-druid nature may be kind of awesome.

I prefer that you are invested in the character you are playing.

If you are quirky, great. If you role play, great. If you lead a team, lead it. If you are looking to get invited to teams, make sure you play in a manner that benefits the team and recognize when other people make it possible for other players to be successful.

You should play what you think is fun. Heck make one of each, try them both.

As far as what people prefer, I would think tank. You see tons of chat in the LFG channel asking for tanks, haven't seen looking for corrupter yet.

There is no right or wrong answer to this question. Tankers and corruptors can both contribute effectively to a team. They contribute in different ways.

Many missions benefit from having a tanker. It is common for team leaders to recruit tankers specifically. That said, a team of all tankers is not going to be efficient. It will be safe, slow fun. A team of corruptors with a diverse mix of powers (including both buffs and debuffs, ideally including +dam, +res, -res, and -regen) can steamroll things.

This post recruiting a team for "really hard way" runs on Everlasting seeks exactly two tankers, total, and as many corruptors as possible. (They've opened up the list to other ATs, but those were the two ATs originally preferred.) This was for a specific mission, but two tankers and a bunch of corruptors sounds like a good team composition for most missions.

There's an expectation that tankers will be first to dive into the fray. If your reflexes are slow (as mine are), you might be happier playing a corruptor. You can still get in melee range if you build for both melee and ranged defense.

Here are my two infs:

If you see yourself playing in teams more with the toon, then a Corruptor will be of more utility. Dark/Nature is quite versatile: you got damage, buffs, debuffs, holds and heals. Your powers may not be as strong as other ATs (like a Troller's holds or Defender's heals), but they're there if you need them. Toxic debuff IMHO is very very effective, coupled with Dark's -to hit, any enemy that does manage to hit you won't be hitting you very hard.

On the other hand, this is not to say that Tanks are not useful. While Savage is extremely fun, a tank's job on a team is to soak damage not so much deal it. there will always be damage on a team, but I've seen a good tank literally save a team mate from certain doom (like down to 10 HP) by taunting the mob pummelling him away in the nick of time.

And as mentioned above, if you do decide to solo every now and then, it will be easier on a tank, slower (but not impossible) on a Corr. One more thing you might want to consider is if you prefer playing range or melee.

Wait that was 3 1/2 infs. 😃

I'm not sure what a druid/primal is but you want to be a corruptor. I can tell.

I've recently been converted from my normal support playstyle into the Tanker life, so I might be biased when I recommend Tanker.

For me, honestly, Tankers are great because they are really good on both teams and solo, and I sometimes like to have my alone time, just rushing into missions without a care in the world and clobbering my enemies into submission. Having an AT that works effectively for both teams and solo is a huge boon for me.

And even though you pointed out that there are more Tankers, in my experience I don't run into them as often as Corruptors. It always feels nice when I'm the designated Tank for a team, just being a meatshield and letting your allies clean house. Tankers just make you feel invulnerable, and that's a lot of fun for me.
