Content Guidelines

Controversial and adult content, including:

  • Sexual, provocative, pornographic, or adult content

  • Character names, descriptions, and costumes
  • Chat messages on any channel in-game
    • This includes private channels, such as team or supergroup chat - we generally do not proactively monitor these channels, but if we receive a complaint, you will be liable for anything you have said

Seeing [ERP] (Erotic Role-player) in too many character descriptions on Everlasting.

You are advertising for something that is NOT ALLOWED in this game.
Inviting it.

The reason it is against the rules?
Because kids play this game.
What  you're doing, is giving children the ability to participate in sexual conduct with adults via the internet.

I would, by NO means, invite my 14 year-old nephew in to play this game.

Having [ERP] in your profile is both reportable, and bannable.

Keep that garbage to Second Life.

I, and the 4 other people in my SG, will be reporting anybody... ANYBODY... with "[ERP]" in their character profile.

I'm not kink/erotica shaming.
I write erotica.
...but not in a kid's game.

Most of my characters (where I have room in the description field) have the following in parentheses  (All RP except ERP welcome.  Walk-ups and tells welcome).

Having said that, I totally missed that this was not allowed (Not that I object.  ERP has never been my bag).  I guess I need to refresh myself on the rules again.

Hmm.   My eyes usually glaze over when I see long bios.  Guess I never noticed if any were explicit or not. No one ever seems to ERP on PUGs during Task Forces or anything.  I thought that was mainly a Pocket D thing.  Since bar/tavern/etc RP bores me to tears I've never noticed it there either when going to Null to customize stuff.

That said its easy to avoid RP entirely (of any type) even on Everlasting.   But on the other servers the incidental "danger" of any erp seems extremely slight.  On those the 14 year old would be as unlikely to encounter any as any other MMO out there.

Re-reading the OP I am struck by how Karen-ish it is though, as the 14 year olds would say.

All 5 of you are going to be snooping bios and reporting people?  Even though you don't let the kids play anyway?  Not for actually doing this activity, but saying they do it, at some nebulous point someday?

Yeah, I don't know.  Seems a bit much.

Is it wrong that I first read the title as "Bananable ERP"?

Any kid old enough to be playing CoH (it is a T-rated game still) is probably old enough to understand if their parent explains to them what that tag means and for them to avoid people that use it. If I had a 14 year old that played CoH and they were going to play on the RP server and possibly try roleplaying as well? I'd be warning them about that right away to steer clear.

As long as they aren't overly explicit in their bios or public conduct, those three little letters at the top of their description are inoffensive on their own. If the bio after it is pure smut or they're engaging in sexual roleplays in public spaces? Absolutely report it. If they're just here to get their rocks off, it's not hurting anybody if they go off to do it behind closed doors.

Reporting people for just having the tag in their bio is a bit excessive. It feels no different from those angry mothers rallying to get games like GTA or Mortal Kombat banned because of the harmful content for kids- Despite it saying right on the box that it's not for kids. Just like a parent shouldn't be letting their underage child play a game with an M on the box, they shouldn't be letting them play around people with an E, R, and P in their box either.

Quietly /ignore ERPers and instruct your child to do the same, and carry on with your day.

Edit: Honestly I'd just tell them to avoid Pocket D and the various bar/club SGs on Everlasting as well. Not to say that it's nothing but ERP in those places, but they're definitely the places where you're most likely to encounter those players, as well as just overhear a lot of more adult conversations in general.

Just don't play on Everlasting.  This is the reason why I and others I know avoid the shard.  Just do likewise.  You'll find that the other shards don't have any of that.

My thoughts exactly... are people really spending time hunting down these folks in pocket-D? The internet is not a "Safe-Space". Heck the ESRB ratings used to say "Game Experience May Change During Online Play", expect it to with any online game that has a chat function.

You avoid it because of ERP?

Am I Everlasting wrong?  Cause I never run into it.   Not that I am interested in ERP-ing, or whatever the grammatically correct term is.  Just that I wasn't aware it was some looming threat.  And that's the server I play on usually.

I don't play on everlasting hardly at all, but from the times that I have, you have to actively seek it out. Pocket-D, and private bases are the places for that kind of thing afaik. There is no policing whatever goes on in SG bases. I've... stumbled across that kind of thing a few times.

I'm assuming in the OP's case that they are still specifically playing on Everlasting for the purpose of roleplaying; It's just adult oriented RP specifically they take issue with. If they have no interest in roleplay at all and just want to play the game, then yeah there's plenty of other servers where this would be a total non-issue.

But there's only one "unofficial RP server".

Stick in your own bio "ERP not welcome."

I remember back on Live, Virtue Pocket D had an active social scene that included it.  But Virtue was a lot busier than Everlasting is.

I've ran into it a couple times in Pocket D, usually running through a conversation that makes me turn around and look at the beefcake outfit and want to go wash the erp off me lol.

Usually I tell my VG on discord and get a laugh out of it.

This may be the subtle part. If you have a bio that is actively advertising for erotic role-play, that's probably not appropriate.

If you are simply including a tag for what you are interested in with a character, probably not a problem.

Example: Bio
Megazord Grape, Stiff Master of Prongedness! (msg for ERP!)

Yeah,,, I wouldn't recommend that. But,
Megazord Grape, Hero at Large (RP/MRP-all)

That seems okay to me.

Other thoughts?

Okay, so, this topic deserves a more succinct response than I can type out right now, BUT...

ERP is allowed AS LONG AS:

It is done so privately

All parties involve consent

NO MINORS ARE INVOLVED. This means either a Player OR Character. Any and all accounts involved in underaged ERP will be banned without notice. Please report anyone either trying to ERP with or as a minor (under 18 years).

Will probably follow up later with more detail if needed.

Could we perhaps get an amendment to the CoC? I feel as though it deserves a little amendment to explain what themes players are permitted to roleplay perhaps?

As a follow up to the above:

Having an [ERP] tag in a bio is not actionable. A bio stating in explicit detail what kinds of sexual situations they like to engage in would probably get the axe.

Anywhere in between would be up to the discretion of the GM answering the complaint.

That's the sticky part. The guidelines are there, and we (the GM team) need to be free to engage discretion when enforcing them. If we list bullet point by bullet point what is and isnt't allowed, we'll just end up alienating otherwise innocent players, while purposefully toxic ones will try to rules-lawyer their way into being allowed to straddle the line. And no one wants that.

Impervium, what's the official stance of a bio linking to F-List via something like
/c/pagenamehere

For context, F-List is a website where (among other things) you can make a character kink 'sheet'.

Is that reportable? I forget if this has been said before.

Obviously you have to actually know what /c/pagename here / "has a /c/" refers to buuut curious people are curious. Sometimes not for the better.
