Which Full Theme primary/secondary set would you enjoy the most?

That Never Have I Ever thread got me thinking - I've never really played a toon with matching primary and secondary very high. I've gotten a Dark/Dark of some sort around level 30. Saw some good builds here recently, I'm going to give those a go if my toon's is a Tank.

Abandoned a Fire/Fire Scrapper in the 20's.  Never done the other combos.

Is there an elemental combo you love playing? The two I'm most likely to go with are Fire/Fire and Electric/Electric.

Dark Armor / Dark Melee
Electric Armor / Electrical Melee
Fiery Aura / Fiery Melee
Ice Armor / Ice Melee
Radiation Armor / Radiation Melee
Stone Armor / Stone Melee

Nahhh zero end problems with my stoner now

Why yes I do know what a search feature is. However with the 1000 returns it is hard to dig through all that. So I ask in posts.

I just recently made an ice/ice. In mid's it looks like I'll have soft capped defenses to S/L/E/N.E/F/C. Can't remember what the resists were, bit I'm not counting on them being anything great to write home about. I really just made it to be a novelty toon (aka Santa). We'll see. I've NEVER done same/same before.

I have never done matching sets either.

Resist the siren's call of matched sets. DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR PURITY!

One of my first villains was a rad/rad corruptor.  I've also done a Ninja Blade / Ninjitsu Stalker.

Haven't been tempted to do it yet on a Tanker, mostly because after doing a Rad/Staff I wanted a defense-based Tanker.  And I'd sooner go Shield/Ice than Ice/Ice.  Can pick the ice shield customization and feel like I'm a full ice-themed character without having to take Ice Armor.

Went digging through my toons and found:

Tank:

  • Dark/Dark, level 30

Brute

  • Dark/Dark, level 31
  • Rad/Rad, level 50 - This was when I swore off Rad Melee and Brutes. Tankers and Scrappers for me, baby!

Scrapper

  • Dark/Dark 31
  • Fire/Fire 9

Also have some matching Doms: Earth/Earth @ 37, Fire/Fire @ 25. Also Fire/Fire Blasters and Sentinel.

I realized I just don't like Dark/Dark as much as I enjoy my Bio/Dark.

I already have a ton of Ice Armor and Fiery Aura toons... is an Elec/Elec in my future? End my lifelong boycott of Stone Armor? Or maybe my next Scrapper will be Nrg/Nrg since that's possible now? THE POSSIBILITIES

I have a few that are fun at lvl 50:

  • Archery/Tactical Arrow
  • Dual Pistols/Devices (Close enough)
  • Luminous Blast/Luminous Aura
  • Umbral Blast/Umbral Aura
  • Dual Blades/Ninjitsu (Close Enough)
  • Broad Sword/Shield (Close Enough)
  • Water Blast/Storm Summoning (Close Enough)
  • Night Widow Training/Widow Teamwork
  • Fortunata Training/Fortunata Teamwork
  • Crab Spider Soldier/Crab Spider Training
  • Bane Spider Soldier/Bane Spider Training

That all said, I much rather enjoy mix and matching for more variation and some really interesting power combinations.

For tanks I've gotten a Dark/Dark to 50, now, and had a Fire/Fire to 50 on Live.  I'd also argue that Inv/SS is "close enough" 😁

My first ever toon on Live was Eng/Eng blaster.  I just wanted to fly, dammit!  He finally made 50, after about ten years and 100 other toons to 50.

I also remade my Rad/Rad defender from Live (and got him to 50 on HC) and he's an AV killer, for sure.

I like Fire/Fire, though I will admit, it's very much a kill-or-be-killed set up.  I suspect that will be different once I have his build complete (he's only level 43 or 44 right now).

Dark/Dark/Soul Tank, "It Cannot Die" should be its name. I went crazy on the build, got alot of feedback from the tanker forums and really polished it.

+4×8 pulled the Freedom Phalanx on the LRSF they couldn't kill me, of course I couldn't kill them but you know...tanker.

They were so fixated on me that the team just wiped them out.

Is there an elemental combo you love playing? The two I'm most likely to go with are Fire/Fire and Electric/Electric.

Dark Armor / Dark Melee
Electric Armor / Electrical Melee
Fiery Aura / Fiery Melee
Ice Armor / Ice Melee
Radiation Armor / Radiation Melee
Stone Armor / Stone Melee

Of those combos, Dark and Rad sound best to me. Rad more than Dark I think.

My choice would be:

Fire/Fire

Rad/Rad

Dark/Dark or Electric/Electric

I've run them all to 50, and I can say that they all were enjoyable to play. I'm biased, but I love the Fire Sword Circle animation (and effects/results ;)). Of the four elemental types mentioned, if not already done, I'd go Fire/Fire (Burn + FSC!).

Same, and I love Breath of Fire. I just don't like Blazing Aura, the "poofing" animation makes my eyes hurt.

I haven't gotten very far with my Archery/Trick Arrow blaster (lvl 27) but, so far, I've been surprised at how fun and rewarding this build has been for me.  I'm used to playing blappers, so going for pure shooty was a bit of a hard sell for me, but trick arrow has enough cool gimmicks to keep play fresh and interesting.

My opinion could change once I get to 50, of course.  We'll just have to wait and see.

And I love Combustion, because my Fiery Melee tanker has MoT in it, so it's a quick recharging, almost guaranteed proc activation for the +Res.  I put SGF in Breath, so I get the +Absorb almost every activation, as well.

I head to the Hollows, every so often, to Combustion kill those Hellion bosses that were such a pain killing me with Combustion, while leveling 🙂
