When You Want to Run Solo, What Scrapper Do You Take?

I keep hearing that MA is outdated and too end-heavy. I take it you think otherwise?

I don't have end issues but that may be because I run WP.  The attacks are quick and every one of them has a status effect proc.  It's easily my favorite melee offensive set.  I did take cross punch as well to help with the aoe.

I'd be interested as well.

This is my current build. The empty slot is a force feedback

Among the Scrappers I have, I usually go with my DM/Shield when I want to solo. Just a solid combo that never leaves me feeling wanting for anything and capable of contributing on a team if I see a PuG TF that interests me.

Mostly on Torchbearer, but if you ever see me on, feel free to say hello!

Astral.Kai - Peacebringer; Dark.Enforcer - Dark/Shield Scrapper; Spark.Enforcer - Electrical/Shield Scrapper; Shadow.Reign - Dark/Regen Brute;

Glitter - Warshade;

And others to be added as I get them up to snuff, lol!

It's a Scrapper.  You're pretty good to go.  🙂

Claws/Stone is quite fun, if you're looking for a newer Secondary for Scrappers and a combo that couldn't be done before (claws/stone Brutes/Tankers aren't an option).

Happen to have an example of a claws/stone build for soloing? I'm intrigued

Claws/ea or Ice/stone. I have a Ice/stone Brute and Stalker so I see no reason why it won't work for a Scrapper. If I could talk myself into trying Claws/stone, I would do that. I've already taken Claws to 50 three times, so I don't feel the need to make another right now.

I would update this to: Claws/ea, Claws/sr, Dark/sr, and Dark/shield.

The Dark/shield I used 2x EXP boosters and duo boxed it a bit so I have less attachment to it, Even when I was playing it, it felt fine versus amazing. I IOed it out and just waiting my turn to finish off the build in terms of Accolades and being T4. The Dark/sr is only 17, but it is playing as expected.

Battle Axe/Stone.  BA is pretty consistently supported by data as one of the top 3-4 DPA sets in both ST and AOE, and it has Knockdown and defense debuff, which are great on their own and also bring the ability to slot for chance to recharge and resist debuff.

Stone Armor is badly slept on for scrappers.  It can add almost as much damage as bio, is much easier to softcap, has a good resist foundation on top of that, is one of the few sets with no psi hole, brings solid healing and regen even without the T9 Geode and basically no downtime with Geode.  A recent poll had bio at ~8x as popular as stone, and it is probably stronger against moderate or weak content or for very short periods against hard content, because of the absorbs, but if you are soloing a variety of hard content consistently, stone is arguably a stronger set that is massively underrated - especially on a scrapper.

Bio and stone are both excellent sets for all ATs, but after a lot of experimentation with the 2 armor sets, I like bio more on a tanker and stone on a scrapper (though bio does benefit a lot from the potential recharge synergy with BA).

I prefer Stone on a Brute, but Axe/stone is still one of the best combos I have done.

I appreciate this discussion, as I realized I'd somehow left Battle Axe off my master list of planned Scrappers, to get one of each Primary to 50, with minimal Secondary repeats.

I have fixed that - going with BA/FA.

Death is the best debuff.

It’s not that odd or a surprise...   I’ve only been going on about it for about two years.

This. I think this is also why many say Brutes are way better than scraps. Me being one who also prefers brutes. I just think people that want an uber scrapper can't use any build.

Scrappers don't have the HP etc to be a RES based killing tank. I've never been a scrapper fan but I am giving it a go with a couple. Currently I am on a TW/Bio scrapper who has softcapped DEF on s/l/e/n/f/c. I feel this should work well and it's a really fun combo and concept. Sadly, in order to softcap, it will cost a ton. More than I like to spend on any one toon but hey...you only live once!  So, this might be my one scrapper to do it all...? Maybe?

I think 'best' can be rather subjective. I find Scrappers are 'better' when using damage which gets more resisted since they do higher damage with having access to crits. THis only really shows up when dealing with higher diff settings like +3-+4.

First of all my native language isint english.

So i have 3 scrappers. 1 OG back from the start of COH. Its a Claws/SR and im still i  love with it (first loves die hard). And even back then it was strong but rare (most peeps where making claws/regen). I also made a katana/rad, katana has good ST damge and rad has good AOE. And its really fun to play and verry strong. I can solo most content al +3/8.

I made a Claws/WP fully slotted probably my most expensive toon and it still feels weak compared to my other 2.Something about WP just feels lack luster.

Im thinking of replacing it with claws/EA or Spines/DA

Some feedback would be nice.

I have a number of scrappers, but the one I always go back to, and my namesake here in the forums, is Culach a BS/WP who does fine. I'm not running out trying to have the most extreme numbers, nor am I trying to the absolute most optimum build, I just built him to be fun to play my way, as a feral scrapper.

You're not wrong about WP.  It's...  fine, perfectly playable, but it's lackluster.

I don't think DA is a good set on Scrappers -- it's a somewhat clunky old-design Resistance set.  As a resist set, it has a natural advantage on Brutes/Tanks with their higher resist cap, and its really notable thing is a huge heal which also shines on the higher hps of brutes/tanks.  I'm sure that you can make a credible DA Scrapper, but it just feels like you'd get more bang for your buck from another AT.

Spines is spines.  Weak ST, a damage aura, decent AoE attacks slightly hobbled by the annoyingly long animation time on Spine Burst.

EA is an all-round good performer.  It has a taunt aura on Scrappers, it's a defense set, it has a heal and an endurance tool, the only thing it doesn't really have is a big offense component.  I think everyone basically thinks EA is good, though you won't post top-end pylon times.

GRWM - ultimate bestest scrappy squire, Figs Edition

image.png.24e6c39b6c1e35e39c87df7858d28c94.png

ice melee

 - GOOD slotting diversity, mix of pbaoe, melee single, aoe

 - dmg type very rarely resisted well, slow on stuff so procs if you like

 - 'frost' is 10ft 90* cone, counts as ranged aoe, you can increase range if you wanna

 - frozen aura is really good

 - ice patch improves survivability

stone armor

 - defens'ey, LOTG slots.

 - the aura does immob, which is handy and also pisses off the monsters

 - you dont necessarily get blown up by high end arachnos or other psi (minerals also gives 15% recharge)

 - you get a sliver of toxic resist from the HP++

 - rooted is toggle decent mes protect and 100% regen

 - oh no, kupo! button with geode

OR

bio

 - offensive adaptation, genetic contamination

 - invalidated if kin on team, sorta

 - overdone, not fashion

PSIONIC MASTERY (for epic)

 - everyone who fights council exclusively all day junks on psi, but its good and when they dont resist they typically really dont resist

 - snipe - with added range 175ft vs 150ft on the others

 - psychic scream - CONE - this with frost is a mean double of odd damage types that can wreck a bad guys day

 - harmonic mind - end discount and recovery, horray!

 - skip the pet it gets 1 shot like most all pets outside singularity, arsenal turret or full on immune incarnate options. worthless.

I want to make a room for times when teams aren't available (or I'm not in the mood to deal with people).

All suggestions are appreciated.

I, as of late, have really fallen in love with the Scrapper and Sentinel versions of Ninjitsu.  For a classic and effective combo, pair it with katana.  If you want something with a different feel, (albeit still very effective), pair it with battle axe, war mace, or titan weapons!

If you want to try out Claws/ea, I haven't really touched this build from a few years ago. I also +3/x8 for the sake of speed, and very few maps make me lower the diff setting.

Invulnerable is a solid set on every AT.  It also has a taunt aura on scrappers, which a lot of people really like.

It rewards pretty careful IO slotting, in order to maximize its hybrid defense layering -- you ideally want to both get a bunch of defense and a bunch of resistance from your slotting.

It doesn't have an endurance tool or an offensive buff (damage aura, +damage, etc), which probably keeps people from rating it absolutely first rate.  I think that in an environment where it's pretty easy to hit most durability goals, people tend to gravitate towards armors that either provide a very easy play experience (sets with taunts/heals/endurance), or else sets that give them a boost on their offensive goals.

Edit to add:  Invul does have a sort of offensive buff in terms of +to-hit.  This again might be something that very careful slotting can take advantage of (reduce accuracy slotting to put in more procs, for example), but probably most people aren't fine-tuning at this level and mostly waste the +to-hit.
