SmalltalkJava Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 people ask what is the "best" all the time. I want to change that question to be more in line with people's preferences. What is your favorite secondary to pair with Gravity? Why do you like it more than the others? Is it more useful in groups or soloing? What aspect do you think makes it synergistic or makes it useful or fun? Is there a particular opening combo that works really well together that you just love? Is there a situation that the combo excels at? I don't want this to degrade into a what is "best" but what you like about the combo. Preferences as the key. If you have a build that you are proud of or just really like then feel free to post it. Lets talk Gravity. I personally like Gravity paired with Radiation. For the science aspect and early access to Accelerate Metabolism that allows for faster recharges. Baseline MM Henchmen Defenses and Resist Values MM - Beast Pets - Pet Attack usage and some quick proc testing
Guffnat Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 /Traps, /Storm and /FF would be my top choices for Gravity. Conceptwise I enjoy my Grav/FF the most. back in the days: Zukunft (EU) ... nowadays: Everlasting
_NOPE_ Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 FF, of course. My first character was actually a Gravity/FF Controller named Gravitron. I'm out.
Narninian Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 Conceptually ForceField makes sense. I can't let that statement go without mentioning a strong mechanical preference for Cold domination over force field in almost all circumstances. (IMO, especially with IO sets giving some extra defense even if they're not trying cold is simply superior -- FF gets 3.5% more defense on their toggle being the main defense difference, but you can still cap it anyway. Forcefield 'other' thing (knockback) are less useful-- but the debuffs from cold are very effective)
CircularMoon Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 Grav/Storm. - best fun I ever had in COH (past lvl 38) Period... - recreating the old times as we speak too. - but I remember solo missions in the 40's to be such fun.. - complete chaos with the powers that be. - but was a case of sit back and enjoy the show! Plus it was a beast in PvP (for base raids) back then. ex:UNION, - ArtOfWar SG! - Ahh Good times!
Redlynne Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 I'm partial to the combo of Gravity/Time ... and not just for thematic reasons. Immobilize + Recharge debuffing = ghetto hold of Area Denial. They can't win. They can't break even. They can't even get out of the Faceplant Zone ... and you've got Wormhole to scoop them all up and dump them right where you want them. And that's before you "ruin their day" with a combination of +Defense and +Recharge on your side while serving them up -ToHit and -Recharge on their side. We be fast and they be SLOW(ed). Makes things rather unfair in a rather big hurry. Verbogeny is one of many pleasurettes afforded a creatific thinkerizer.
Erydanus Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 /Rad. I posted about this at length in one of the soloing controller threads. You get 2 more holds, so many debuffs, even a bit of self healing and buffing for a pinch. Gravity is so strong in single target damage for a controller to begin with it just makes sense to double down and go for it. See me on Excelsior as Eridanus - Whisperkill - Kid Physics - Ranger Wilde - The Hometown Scrapper - Firewatch - and more!
ThrillMill Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 Apologies to all for the threadjack. I've taken my formative steps on the path of Grav/Traps. Currently at level 22 and was looking towards planning ahead. Could anyone here learn me some ideal slotting ideas for the Set. Specifically, what's the ideal for Poison Trap? I hear proc'ing is the way to go? How has everyone's experience been with Dimension Shift and its revamped intangible aspect? Should I build for softcapped defense with a Def based patron shield to pair with FFG? Thanks in advance.
Gentoo Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 I like Grav with Kinetics, becuase it turns you into a rapid Propel machine. Stack syphon speed repeatedly, max out hasten, and see how many objects you can put on the board. Fulcrum Shift yourself and those things hit HARD too, expecially if you've contained the enemy first.

Thank you...I thought I had just burned out of creating Alts (for the moment) so I can focus on getting a couple of them to 50 at least. Now I have a new one. So I worked up a quick and dirty build and just looking for some eyes to see what I can improve. Jeneki Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 Currently running a Grav/Sonic, with a music "heavy riff" theme. Also teammates get really happy when they see sonic powering up. If you want to feel "appreciated" that's a good way to get it.
Rocketmandb Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 There are two that have amazing synergy with Grav: /Storm and /Traps, and both center around Wormhole. Traps: It's a pretty obvious one here. Put all your traps in a corner, Wormhole the mobs in, things blow up, get held, debuffed, and hilarity ensues. Storm: Hurricane up - Wormhole all the mobs into a corner - Crushing Field, Lightning Storm, Tornado, epic cone attacks, holding everything there with Hurricane - and hilarity ensues.
Castillian Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 Best I have found for a secondary to Gravity is Kinesis. They work so well together that you'll never want to stop plying.

My Main used to be a Grav/ff and this go around i am trying grav/kin. Thanks for posting this... I've been trying to figure it out and there are so many great choices! A couple questions: 1. Do you really need Conserve Power given Stamina and Transference?
Greentea Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 No, you don't. Take Power Blast to increase your ST dps with Crush/Lift/Gravity Distortion (Whatever you have). I know you have Fulcrum Shift, but you need a lot of recharge to make the CD shorter.

Hjarki Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 I'm partial to Dark Affinity. It takes a lot of purple to make it work well, but once you're at that point you're incredibly tanky while also having two area Disorient effects (MAG 2 and MAG 3) and a nice location AE -resist/slow debuff to teleport foes into.
ninja surprise Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 I like Grav with Kinetics, becuase it turns you into a rapid Propel machine. Stack syphon speed repeatedly, max out hasten, and see how many objects you can put on the board. Fulcrum Shift yourself and those things hit HARD too, expecially if you've contained the enemy first. Interesting take! Another Grav/Kin favorite here. From early levels I'd open with Crushing Field, stand near enough to something I can heal myself while cycling through the 4 single target attacks, siphon power, and siphon speed. Later you buff yourself with Transference and Fulcrum Shift. You can solo as long as you want to while still being team-friendly, and it's a blast. Storm and Time (and others described in this thead) also sound great so that's where your playstyle and preferences make the difference. The way Rocketmandb described Traps sounds good, but I don't have the patience to set up traps; I'm more scrapper-style. I have a Earth/Time in the mid-20's and it's great on teams but can't solo and it's so sad.

Coyote Posted July 18, 2019 Posted July 18, 2019 Grav / Traps. A bunch of traps in a corner sets up a lot of AoE damage, which is usually the weakness of Controllers. Then, Gravity adds in the single-target damage. Gravity has no PBAoE powers, so Caltrops can either be used as a DoT power, or to keep mobs away, since you don't need to be in short range for Gravity. So, set up traps, Wormhole mobs into them, back up behind Caltrops, and blast the survivors. Seems like one of the best combos for Controllers.
