I don't get the appeal, but whatever. Make it so that players can just dump inf' into it and not get anything out of it, and fine. Otherwise, work the AH.

A stock market would require multiple in-game entities that have value that would go up or down depending on.... what???  And what would those in-game entities be? 

 

You want to invest in Crey Industries or Cage Consortium or maybe Total Praetorian News?  And how would one get a return on investment or suffer a loss?  The more supers they defeat the more Inf you get / the more of them we defeat the less inf we get?  Seems rather defeatist and not worth it to me.  

 

I really see no practical implementation of this idea.

Hmm... I wonder how difficult it would be to implement an in-game lottery - you buy tickets for some amount of inf, and every week there's a drawing - the winner gets like 90% of that inf, and the rest goes "poof" as a way of removing some inf from the market...

90% of everything people have dumped into that lottery? Sorry, but I have to say no. If the idea is a 'fun' thing for players to burn their inf' on? I can support that. However, there are already ample means of getting inf' in this game without adding a lottery. (Which would fall under gambling anyway, and I'm pretty sure that won't fly.)

That is what the stock market is all about... investing to get a better return, and hope you don't lose. 

 

So, if you don't want a return on investment, and just want to give away your Inf... then that is just donating - a stock market is not what you're after.  You're looking for in-game charities.  Tons of newbie characters flood the streets... start sending your moolah to them.  Or me - I'm not too proud or rich - I'll accept donations.  🙂

adding a method for passive generation of income wouldn't add much value to a game about caped crusaders fighting stuff imo. farmers already produce enough inf to distort the market, and they are about to apply the name release policy already on account of how many names are (allegedly) attached to characters that don't do anything.

 

besides the opportunity to get in without having to work for it, what would an in game stock market bring to CoH? how would it be fun in your view if we couldn't make money off of it?

There's sort of a slot machine type of thing at the reward merit vendor. You can trade in 5 merits for a random rare recipe, 5 merits for random rare salvage or 1 merit for a random large inspiration. The concept is OK but the cost to reward ratio is way out of whack (as are all the recipe and enhancement prices at the merit vendor). Maybe if they lowered it from 5 merits to 2 merits for rare recipes and salvage and changed it to 1 merit for a super inspiration.

I will be happy to set such a lottery up.  Everyday I will randomly choose a three digit number as the winner!  Send me an email with 100mm inf and your guess and if you are right I will send you a jackpot.  Honest…

Sounds like someone wants to gamble on the stock market, but gambling is bad. Don't do it.

Agreed. To make this functional, it seems like all of the stock market stuff would have to have been coded in from the beginning and then let hero and villain actions in missions possibly have an influence on the market to have a basis for investments yielding gains or not. To try and tack that on at this point would be a coding nightmare.

This seems like a more doable thing, but there's no way that the lottery winner gets 90%. State lotteries usually take a much bigger cut, and then you have Federal income tax to take into account. Maybe the player gets half of all of the contributed amount. But, again, gambling. Don't do that.

I mean, we basically "gamble" with every reward that is RNG-based.  The only difference here is that you have to pay some in-game inf to participate.  I'm not advocating for accepting real money or any sort of real-world gambling...

Final Fantasy XIV has a lottery, but that, as noted, is nothing like a stock market.  The stock market can be seen as gambling, but it is a far cry from a lottery.

No idea if such a system could be easily implemented here, but even if it could be it's just...  I mean, why?  You can just invest in some particular type of salvage or recipe and try to drive prices up or just hope that they go up.

So, we'd have our equivalent of the Dow, where we take the 10 most traded/bought/sold enhancements and their prices, add 'em up, divide by 10 for a @Yomo Kimyata index? 

I think we're in a bear market, lol. 
"Hey, the stock is on sale! Buy now!" 

So, I like the creativity of the idea. I've no idea how this would work, so I can't generate any legit feedback on it, other than it sounds interesting.

I'd love it if we could use the Slot Machines for reward rolls.

We already have slot machines of a sort, though.

Merit Vendors and AE Ticket Vendors accept their respective currencies for random rolls.

No spinny wheels, so it may feel different, and you can not "lose" so that's different, but it's still a gamble, right?  I mean, maybe you can call getting a piece of 'less desirable' salvage or an inspiration that isn't worth as much as some other "losing", but you are getting what you were told you would get.

I am not against them putting in slot machines or even a poker table if they can, but it should be weighted to be a sink if there is influence to be made.

In the end, though, I think that it's probably more work than it's worth.
