I have discovered recently that I really like being able to burst into range of my enemies and do stuff to them when they least expect it. It's especially good for for squishies where an exit can be made very quickly too.

I tried Combat Teleport just recently and didn't think it had the same feel and responsiveness. But that's one go... so I'm probably not giving it a fair shake. I did notice that SoS on Barbizilla my brute was very effective.

The Jaunt component seems to be a handy "Oh Shit" button - a single keypress and you're out of sight and mind

I don't find much else in Experimentation to write home about, but it certainly seems to have more than the Teleportation set so far as I'm concerned.

Tell me I'm right, or tell me I'm wrong. I'm interested in seeing your PoV

Speed of Sound > Combat Teleport in a vacuum.

Combat Teleport > Speed of Sound in reality because Teleportation > Experimentation.

Every single one of my characters has Teleport/Combat Teleport/Fold Space, so that kinda settles it for me.

For me it's about the tohit buff that combat teleport grants - leverage it!  That being said, I rarely take speed of sound from experimentation because I'm not a big fan of the set overall, and I generally a travel power with more sustainable vertical movement...

I like Speed of Sound / Jaunt. I also have it on my AR/Martial Blaster who also has Burst of Speed, so she can bamph around the battlefield like crazy.

That said, with only four regular pools to choose from, and given how popular Hasten is, I get why many people who want Speed of Sound would be more likely to go SuperSpeed, and just live without the bamphing. SuperSpeed coming with a Stealth component doesn't stink, either.

Speed of Sound on a Brute or Tanker lets you aggro a bunch of mobs while you're speeding through a map, and bring them with you to the final room so your teammates can enjoy.

Combat Teleport does not.

Therefore, Speed of Sound wins.

I prefer Combat TP over Jaunt for the to hit aspect. some characters have keys bound to CTP to every direction, at varying distances. I even bound a key to TP in place while hovering to increase my to hit for harder foes. Jaunt kinda throws me off because my fighting style jumps in and out of range. Jaunt always faces in the direction of you're facing, so the time to turn around to face your enemy is rather cumbersome. Also, to activate Jaunt, SoS needs to be on, which entails added end drain. I only use it and the experimentation pool when the character theme calls for it.

It really depends on my theory of play for a character, end usage, and what power selection allows.

However, for the characters that do employ SoS, I greatly enjoy Jaunt. It has a longer range, puts you in range faster than CTP despite the overall animation time being .33 sec slower than CTP, and for what it's worth I think it just looks cooler.

Really, the biggest slight against Jaunt is that every single power in the Experimentation pool blows. You're literally picking the entire pool just to have combined groundspeed and rapid repositioning on demand. Even the T4 and T5 unlocks are underwhelming for the buy in to access them.

Compare that with Teleport pool and it's a lockout. The only power that's niche is Team Teleport, but even that has some decent applications for MMs. Every other power is an all-star after the Travel Pool updates. The Teleport animation proliferation also helps sell it. And for ground mobility between fights? SMART vendor runs work just fine.

I would tend to agree with this, the caveat being I've very limited experience of CT.

I might have to go on the Test Server and give it a whirl.

That said I don't really bother with travel powers now. SoS gives me a great run speed - plus the insta-TP and then I just buy rocket packs. I'll invariably take Combat Jumping.

I used to be a big fan of Hover, but that's been seriously gimped now and even at 0ft you have to deactivate it to operate some powers which I find annoying and immersion breaking.

I prefer Combat Teleport to other similar powers, yet... I observed some weird behavior (at low level)

I rarely see this at higher levels, but I have more to do at higher level so I have not really been paying attention any longer.

That's weird.

Are you using /powexeclocation target combat teleport ?

I love speed of sound, but combat teleport wins in terms of responsiveness.

I've never tried that. I'm not great with /commands

with SoS I just point, click and I'm in their face giving them what for

Yeah, I use ctrl+lbutton for manual combat porting, and that command to button5 for targeted ports. Works wonders.

You can do the same for jaunt, but it's less responsive.

I use /bind numpad5 "powexec_location target Combat Teleport" as well as /bind numpad2 "powexec_location back:100 Combat Teleport" for non-armored ATs

I have a Razer Naga and Tarterus so I just bind the powers to keys there and zoom

I bind "powexeclocation target combat teleport" to my 'G' key, which I think of as my Go-To key. Select an enemy, press G, I'm there. If they're out of combat teleport range, I have shift+G bound to regular teleport the same way. Both go through most walls, too. And you can select teammates if you need to get to them, too. Teleport powers don't suppress in combat like other travel powers do -- very handy, and helps make up for how finnicky travelling across zones with teleport can be.

My macro/binds:

/bind shift+lbutton "powexec_name Combat Teleport"

/macro_image "StaffFighting_StaffMastery" "BAMF" "powexec_location target Combat Teleport"
/macro_image "StaffFighting_AssassinsStaff" "BACK" "powexec_location Back:25 Combat Teleport"

25' back is usually "just right" for followup ranged cone attacks.

Have you looked at the stats you can get with Adrenal Boost?  Its an amazing offensive buff which lasts a minute, built for recharge and the +recharge you get from it the power is up quite often.

You'll get your Super Speed along with a quick escape or into the fray tp power then you can take AB.  Just have to sacrifice a power to get it.

I'm usually saving a spot for one of the Origin pools.  If I'm looking offense this is my jam.

I have taken it a few times but I am not to familiar with its stats per se, so I will look at that because it's a cheap power pick. Thanks!

For my Inf, the biggest issue with Speed of Sound is that it does nothing for Jump Height. There are ways to mitigate this, but I find them to be very clumsy for my build preferences. There is simply too much vertical travel, even at smallish distances, such that I always end up regretting taking Speed of Sound as a travel power.

I use Speed of Sound/Jaunt almost exclusively.  I like the build efficiency of a single pick offering two travel powers, one of which I can macro-manage to position myself "just so" for whatever the situation might be.  It's great for teleporting from one mob to the next then back to the starting point as a mini-herder. It's good for zooming to the side of teammates in trouble, even you have no LoS.  It's great for the blue cave map where you just let someone else navigate to where you want to be, then BAMF, you're in their underwear.  The P2W Jump Packs and Jet Packs are available should I need more vertical than horizontal.

As far as the rest of the pool goes, I don't often take much else out of the Experimentation pool, though I love Toxic Dart, it's so ridiculous as a finisher I can't help but use it sometimes.

I love Combat Teleport and the ToHit Buff it provides.  But if your build is tight and you don't want Teleport as your travel power, Speed of Sound with free power Jaunt can be handy.

As far as Experimentation Pool.... Toxic Dart is fast activating and is on par / does more damage than a lot of T1 attacks - so it can be a nice add.  Adrenal Booster is a nice "Power Build Up" power that boosts ToHit, Damage, secondary effects and also recharge!!  The other powers in the set = blah.

You're fine with either.  It all depends your build. concept, and preferences.

That'll get you cancelled these days!

To be serious, I agree - the utility it provides is great. That said, with Hover it's just a gimp power. Perhaps Combat Teleport marries with Hover and SoS with CJ.... something to mull over.

I usually take Combat Jumping as well, as much for the jump as for the additional +Def and the LotG global recharge - so I don't fear those verticals so much. As @roleki also pointed out, with the addition of travel powers from START that's not really an issue in my mind - we're given a jet pack at level 2 these days.
