srmalloy Posted Wednesday at 11:02 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:02 PM "Why I'm Leaving", "Why I'm leaving too", "Why I'm Displeasing", "Why I'm heaving", "Why I'm believing", "Why I'm weaving", "Why I'm grieving", "Why I'm Reaving", "Why I'm Leavening", "Why I'm Thieving", "Why I'm Cleaving" -- ignoring individual users is useful when you get someone being an unrelenting jerk, but there should also be a way to ignore entire topics, so that when you decide you've had enough of a particular topic, and don't want to see it any more, you can hide it -- or, as in this case, when you get an ongoing stream of people who think it's cute or funny to post an ever-increasing number of inane rhyming-subject topics that just take up space in a subforum's topic list. 7 1
biostem Posted Wednesday at 11:09 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:09 PM Do you mean as a reactive step, where the user has to select a topic and choose to ignore it? If so, then, sure, I'm in favor of such a feature. Anything that relies upon any sort of tag system for the forum topic won't work, as I doubt you could rely upon such OPs to use those tags. I could be misremembering, but don't most forums disallow such "I'm leaving" threads, anyway? If so, maybe just close them ASAP? 1

Scarlet Shocker Posted Thursday at 12:06 AM Posted Thursday at 12:06 AM Personally, I'm just happy that the OP namechecked the relevant threads so thoroughly and diligently. 1 3 I needed a SatNav for work. Somebody suggested the U2 version. It's crap - the streets have no name and I still haven't found what I'm looking for. .

No, it would be an active "hide this topic' selection. For the other, you'd probably have to tag people with a clue-by-four to wake them up first. 2

It's been tried; the Paragon Studios devs tried to eradicate the flood of farm requests and offers in chat by applying filters to the chat traffic to hide references to farms; it just resulted in an ever-changing collection of euphemisms and code words used instead of the words that the filters wouldn't catch, like the "meow missions" that people who played the game during that period on Live may remember.

I think the key difference with allowing the filtering to be implemented on each individual player's end is that the ones spamming the chat wouldn't notice the change, so there wouldn't be any need for them to change their behavior. Maybe allow some basic keyword filtering on a per-user basis? Heck, limit it to the global chat channels to avoid any false positives, (so teams and league chat, for instance, wouldn't be affected)... 1

JKCarrier Posted Thursday at 04:26 AM Posted Thursday at 04:26 AM I don't mind the parody threads, as my inner 12-year-old finds them quite amusing. But I sure wouldn't mind being able to hide those AI "art" threads. So 👍 to OP's suggestion. 1 --- 64453 - This Was Your Life? - An AE arc that lets you relive your hero's greatest triumphs! Game Master GM Crumpet Posted Thursday at 05:48 AM Game Master Posted Thursday at 05:48 AM Humour is subjective. I could name a number of popular things that are as funny as root canal surgery in my eyes like Friends, Seinfeld, James Acaster, Romesh Ranganathan. And other things that have me rolling on the floor with mirth like Mrs Browns Boys, Sarah Millican and Jimmy Carr. I love roast shows but other people find them cringe. I get where OP is coming from, but people have a right to create threads for any number of reasons, and as long as they are not vicious or nasty we aren't going to delete them because something has tickled a number of players who have run with the theme. Full disclosure, I love them myself, and another GM was rolling their eyes and sighing at the whole thing. 1

Beyond that, based on your examples, you take offense at the apparent disrespect from a specific thread by spammed similarly titled threads. But in this particular case, people are mocking a thread posted by someone (with two posts including this one) who joined 2.5 years ago with "Not the CoX i used to know". It took them that long to decide this isn't the game they used to know??? If you're leaving and want to post a leaving thread, at least give some specific reasons. Otherwise......you're gonna get some mocking and derision. Not saying that's entirely copacetic, but it is to be expected. Edited Thursday at 06:43 AM by Wobegone 1 1 1
