Is changing the power levels power creep?
biostem replied to _NOPE_'s topic in Suggestions & Feedback
It is already exceedingly easy to level up. Consequences for being defeated or for failing a mission are also minimal. Whatever planning/strategy in creating a character should not be minimized any further. If anything, I think our characters' power levels should be reigned in a little. Within the context of CoH, your security or threat level isn't just a measure of that character's power, but also a level of trust/notoriety said character has within the world. To put it another way - a Kryptonian could arrive on Earth, demonstrate their power, but still not be trusted with crucial missions or national secrets... -
CoH is a superhero-inspired MMO, and not a direct adaptation of any specific comic book. Also, you have to build up your character, until you get to the point where you virtually never miss. Think of some of the "year-one" style storylines that have been published - many of the heroes started out whiffing, running out of breath, and getting the crap kicked out of them over and over again. Slot for acc, leverage your power picks to add some tohit, defense debuff, etc. Either way, there should always be a chance to fail...

No. Rad melee has the "contaminated" effect, which can spread the damage and generate a small AoE, IIRC.
-
I mean, they could make a generic "elemental weapon" set, which uses all the available weapon models, and give it a toggle like dual pistols' "swap ammo" power, which allows you to change elements. Maybe to keep it simple, you could have energy, fire, and ice, or maybe energy, toxic, and ice, (or some other permutation thereof).
-
I still think, even if you used existing animations, a "beam sword" set could be made to be mechanically different enough from the existing BS set, to stand apart.
-
I think what the OP wants is a melee weapon-based equivalent to beam rifle - it's like arguing that AR should be enough, because you can pick some high tech weapon models for it. You could even port over a form of the "disintegrate" effect to the set, and use the existing broadsword animations...

It is frustrating, as there are some gloves that wouldn't really clip, or would only clip minimally, that are missing as well. This is basically why I go with sleeveless jackets, etc. The Valkyrie 3 shoulders or 2nd Circle of Thorns options make for some decent short sleeves in a pinch, under the sleeveless option...

If you're talking about hard drive space, it's about 7GB. If you're talking RAM, then while the original specs are fairly low, (512MB IIRC), I'd recommend having at least 4GB, plus a dedicated graphics card with a further 1GB or more. You can play the game only with integrated graphics, but it'll run very poorly, (there is a launch parameter you can use to improve performance, but it drastically simplifies the graphics quality in doing so). I would suggest starting here regarding how to create a game account, get the launcher, and other relevant questions you may have.

New Inspiration Type: "Halloween Candy"
biostem replied to biostem's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Hence the option to cancel that effect.... -
New Inspiration Type: "Halloween Candy"

No - it WOULD change your costume, for the duration of the buff the inspiration applied. My follow-up comment is that said costume change should be able to be cancelled so the effect cannot be used to grief others... -
New Inspiration Type: "Halloween Candy"

Just a note - you'd need to make the temp costume effect able to be cancelled, so you couldn't grief people by forcing a model change upon them, (at least no longer than it would take to cancel the effect, anyway). -
I tend to work best when some limitations are imposed upon me. To that end, I'll generally select a pairing of powers that I find interesting, (or just want to try out), then come up with a look and name after the fact. For instance, I liked the way the Rikti Axe looked, and thought it looked good paired with one of the tech shields, thus came up with a concept for someone who found some Rikti gear that had been "liberated" from its owner by some random heroes...
-
So here's my thought - what if, during the trick or treating event, (or other relevant activities), you could earn special "Halloween Candy" inspirations. These could provide some neat effects - like +recovery or +regen for a period of time, instead of the direct +end or +hp like current ones do. Additionally, what if they could apply a random costume to you for the duration, which in turn counted as wearing a costume for the sake of the event as well!

Oh I get it - I have a kin/son defender that has clarion on auto, but before incarnates, or should you not want to go w/ clarion, there are options. I have a thugs/sonic MM that functions pretty well, thanks to sonic dispersion and the extra RES...

There are a few MM secondaries that give you status protection already. There are also some pool power and/or IO sets that, while not perfect, definitely help lessen the impact of mez effects as well. I don't think status protection is the answer. I think eliminating the level drop of your minions would be a better improvement.

Add Teleport Magnitude Increase to Power Boost
biostem replied to existential1's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
What they could do is give the power the 20% chance at an extra 1 mag, like other controller/dominator primaries enjoy... -
OP, what you can do is create a bind that, when you target an enemy, orders your pets to attack it, so when you switch targets, they do so as well...

Before the patch, tankers would get the attention of mobs up to the aggro cap, and the others would just stand around ignoring them. After the patch, those mobs that would previously ignore them will now instead only attack with ranged attacks. Yes, the net number of incoming attacks has increased, but the number of enemies that will close to melee has not decreased...

This hinges on the word "need"; You don't "need" any AT. What you do run into is people building characters to take advantage of what their given AT does best, which tends to leave them vulnerable to those things said ATs come up short in. A typical defender has a hard time dealing with a lot of aggro, and even if they are able to mitigate it, it means their focus has shifted from supporting their teammates to dealing with that situation, for instance. It's kind of ironic - if you create a freeform character over on Champions Online, you can create the vaunted "tank mage", and be fully self sufficient, which results in much lessened need or desire to team, and an overall lessened experience, (IMHO)...

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that "tryhard" assumes that the person isn't actually accomplishing anything - just sort of "spinning their wheels", as it were. I'm all for putting in your best effort and all that - just saying what my understanding of the term is and why it's a pejorative...

A somewhat obscure movie reference from the 80s (Badge)
biostem replied to Dynamo-Joe's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Do we have a "6 demon bag" one? What about "it's all in the reflexes"? Great movie BTW! -
This assumes the MM is not simply giving verbal commands, that their minions aren't semi-independent, and/or that the only way for the MM to control those minions is via some form of hivemind. So let's say you use this command, then target a teammate to heal or buff them. Would your pets then attack that teammate's target? What happens if you are using this, accidentally hit tab, (thereby targeting some distant enemy), and end up sending your minions halfway across the map? I'd much rather stick with the more deliberate "attack my target" type of setup we have now...

So I rolled up a fire/cold controller recently, and have been steadily leveling them up. I've played controllers before, but one thing that perplexes me is Hot Feet. Is it meant to be a sort of "area denial" power, keeping enemies from entering melee range? Is there some other use for this power that I'm not aware of? Thank you for your insight!

Things you enjoy that other people seem to not enjoy

Sometimes I wonder if they know too much, though...
