  1. I can't help it if you don't comprehend a fairly simple concept. Can anyone just walk up and participate, or is there some sort of application process involved? If it's the former, then it is "open", if it's the latter, then it's "closed". And I'm talking about my definition, not some you or the other poster imagine. Are you saying that anyone can't just walk up and participate in a TF? Is there some 3rd party, besides the NPC contact, involved in starting said TF? If there was some group organizing TFs outside of the game or via other resources, that didn't accept walk-ups, then those instances would be "Closed PvE", by my definition.
  2. What are you talking about? I was discussing the difference between "Open PvP" and "Closed PvP".
  3. Right, so to treat NPCs like they need an advocate or referee to ensure fair play is kind of laughable. Did you miss where I said way upthread that I don't care what you do in a PvP zone, since consent is explicit in you going there? It's non-consensual PvP that's at hand here, since the OP was discussing a PvP event that would be sprung on players in a PvE zone.
  4. You don't seem to be understanding the distinction I'm making between "open PvP" and "closed PvP". "Open" means anyone can walk up and participate - you don't have to join anything. "Closed" means there's some application process, or at least some level of scrutiny with regards to who can join. Can you at least acknowledge that difference?
  5. It's "closed" in the sense that any rando can't just walk up to a match and take part. Even if I grant that part, the other aspects of my statement still apply.
  6. I guess you don't understand the difference between PEOPLE and NPCs, then. There's a reason there are things like weight classes other other such divisions in sports. I guess you're having a problem understanding the distinction between PLAYERs and NPCs...
  7. Which would fall squarely into the "tight-knit, closed communities that strictly regulate themselves" that I mentioned before...
  8. Because there is no referee to make the call, such as "X is not in the spirit of PvP, even though the game engine/systems allow it", then it'll either devolve into playing the meta-game, or players forming tight-knit, closed communities that strictly regulate themselves. YOU may be an honorable PvP-er, but short of some external authority to enforce fair play and mature attitudes toward it, it'll just be about what AT or powerset is the FotM or who has the biggest wallet, (most inf/most time to farm, etc). That being said, it would be interesting to see some sort of test event that locked out IO set bonuses, accolades, Incarnate abilities, temp powers, and so on, so it really came down to build strategy and player skill.
  9. PvP needs to be consensual. If it is not, then I do NOT want to have any part in it. If it is forced upon a PvE zone, with the only recourse being "leave the zone", then that might as well be non-consentual. Stick to the PvP zones, and do whatever you want there...
  10. If you can slot translocation, it should probably have to be taken as another power pick. The same holds true, IMO, for jaunt from experimentation or takeoff from force of will; Them not being able to be slotted is the "price" for them being "free" when you take the root power...
  11. I meant the human form attacks and such, yeah.
  12. I wish we could get the Burst of Speed animation as an alternate for it.
  13. I have a bio/savage tanker that's really fun to play. My fire/regen sentinel is also quite good, as is my kin/sonic defender. None of them have hasten, (though the tanker has the inherent boost from the attacks and the kin has siphon speed).
  14. I often find that such people are only familiar with a handful of powersets or ATs, and instead of trying to learn what other ATs/sets can provide, they fall back on what they know, with it never occurring to them that there is more to gameplay than that...
  15. We all have different priorities and different levels of what we'll tolerate, which is also (generally) a good thing!
  16. Honestly, unless it's something that I made a commitment to see through to the end, like a TF, I'll politely excuse myself after that particular mission is complete, and find a team that gels better...
  17. I suppose it's a matter of taste, then - do you want larger AoEs that hit for less, or smaller AoEs that hit for more. Nice to have options, then...
  18. I agree in the case of brutes, but why roll a tanker if you're gonna solo, (or at least play with a solo mindset)? I'm asking rhetorically, as I think you should be able to play however you want, (outside of harassing or griefing, etc) - I'm just trying to get in the headspace of "I want to do my own thing, but I'm going to play this AT that has all this stuff geared towards team play"...
  19. DEF does not "fail" 5% of the time - It is intentional and by design that attacks cannot drop below a 5% chance to hit; "Working as intended" is not "failing". My reference was to how you erroneously seem to think a floor of 5% chance to hit is somehow a failure, to which I compared it to the 90% RES cap, thereby meaning that at least 10% damage will always get through. Get it: 5% chance to be hit (minimum) and 10% damage taken (minimum). Do enemies benefit from the streakbreaker code, or are you referring to PvP? If it's the latter, well then I don't PvP, so I have no opinion in that case...
  20. In the case of the cloud of gas, I assume you simply avoid it altogether. Yeah, if you choose to remain within it, then you should take the full effect. With regard to psionic attacks - at least the way they're depicted in CoH, they just seem to be generated by the mind, but are still a visible bolt or dart that has to hit the target, not a direct mind-to-mind intrusion...
  21. Was able to make it in time. Thank you Homecoming devs!
  22. Do you mean completely unchanged, or do you mean something like an illusions set tailored for the different ATs, like a MM set centered around summoning illusions, or maybe some sort of illusory debuff set...
  23. I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like Portal Corp is designed around smaller more casual-use portals. That being said, I have no issue with using the door to simply get to the portal on the other side... let's just keep it a simple door, though. You have the mission transporter if you really can't be bothered to go to the next building...
  24. I just wish we had more ways of depicting our powers - like longer, more elongated stone shards and spears for stalkers...
