How do you feel about 'lone wolfing'?
SeraphimKensai replied to Story Archer's topic in General Discussion
I agree as then we have a race. -
Looking to try Stone/sonic or arse/energy or ele
SeraphimKensai replied to terrasmash's topic in Dominator
I have an arse/sonic that I like. I agree though that I've never seen an earth/sonic domi. It could be an interesting project pairing. There's enough control in earth for you to cc and lay into your targets, and the sonic res debuffs will help stoney hit harder. -
I'd suggest plant/storm or plant/poison. You get tons of control, damage mitigation, and decent controller damage with plant. Storm gets you a team friendly stealth that also gives res/defense, debuffs, and a lot of damage output with tornado/lightning storm (place a kb to kd IO in your tornado to help your son playing melee). Poison gets you some of the strongest debuff powers in the game and really leans into just softening everything up for your pets/carrion and son to demolish. Other suggestions would be illusion/rad (a classic) or dark/cold (more control/debuffs, and also defense shields/more HP for your son). Also Dark Affinity is pretty amazing of a set.

What would you make to do all Praetorian content?
SeraphimKensai replied to redcnz's topic in Archetypes
I did a lvl 1-50 Praetorian run with an Electric Armor/Ice Melee Tanker solo. It was pretty fun. Eventually though I did bring him over to Primal Earth as it felt weird to only be able to do SBB and AE missions if I wanted to team once he was 50 and IO'd. -
103 deaths in 2:16? Sounds like someone's role was to be bait for vengeance/fallout/mutation, but no one had recall so that person had to keep on rezzing to reposition.
-
I'd make him as a SR/SS tanker with Black Scorpion's mace for the cosmic control rod.
-
No, because you can't swap your alignment and become a Praetorian. Primal characters get awarded the Immortal Badge. Challenger of Gods is the badge for the same thing, just a different name for praetorian characters. @Xavek1 if you want Challenger of Gods, make a Praetorian badger. It's not uncommon for people to have multiple characters to be able to acquire all the badges in the game.

I was a PvP Empathy for years back on live. I fully recommend jousting as an empath. No need to fly/hover, but SS/CJ (or SJ when outside) you're able to reposition yourself so easily that if a mob gets close to you you can just as easily move out of melee range.

Do you pay attention to what your team is doing?
SeraphimKensai replied to Forager's topic in General Discussion
Like others have said it kinda depends on what content/difficulty I'm running, if I'm the team/league lead, what toon I happen to be playing, and if the other team/league members actions are detrimental to the good of the team/league. I'm a big fan of the ABCO's (Always Be Completing Objectives) of CoH. Examples: I don't want to carry someone on 4 star content, while I don't often mind carrying them on say 1-2 star especially if they are trying to learn the content and receptive to instructions. If I'm leading a pug TF, I'm usually running it at +0 so anyone that still needs incarnate xp gets some, otherwise it's off to the races. I do order DPS checkfires on the last mission of a TF until everyone is able to get in the mission so they get credit for the TF. If I'm playing a buffer I will keep everyone alive/buffed (8 years as a PvP Empathy, I'm used to being a Pingpong Ball, but if you die while I'm buffing/healing you've done something asinine). If I'm playing support with anchors I go where I view as the most efficient use of my powers, following the ABCOs. That all said I pug most the time I play, and if someone shows or expresses a genuine interest in learning, I'm all about it as I like to moonlight as an adjunct professor/coach. I don't actually have anyone on my ignore lists, but am not afraid to use the kick function if someone is detrimental to the purpose of the team. -
Are there any powersets which are better on Brute than on other AT's ?
SeraphimKensai replied to Icono04's topic in Brute
Some interesting points in this thread. From my own POV: Regen is absolutely better on a Brute than a Scrapper. A Brute has higher HP cap than a Scrapper. So it's Regen ticks are for substantially more. You also get a taunt aura (sadly it's linked to your mez protection, so it can have fun effects if you're trying to stealth through a mission). Any of the resistance based sets will get more bang for buck than a Scrapper, given the 90% res cap that Brutes share with Tankers (Tankers get their res easier, but Brutes can get there). More subjective now, fast animating attack sets seem more fun on a Brute than a Tanker, especially Savage/Claws. That said Claws works really well on a Scrapper too. This mindset might likely be a holdover from the days of Fury 1.0. Combo sets I like on a Brute: Claws/EA Savage/Regen SS/Rad (this also works really well on Tankers). -
Between the two I usually go kick. But most the time don't use it. There are times though when I use it for a FF proc, but it also doesn't have the best proc rate. Honestly it would be more useful if the Powers Devs lowered kick's recharge, so the PPM formula made kick more likely to proc Force Feedback.

I agree there's no need for LBE or Energy Torrent when you have claws. Procing FF in claws, and perhaps some -res procs, claws has a very smooth attack chain. If you're going for rebirth, there's no real need for physical perfection, which would allow you to go for shadow meld which can help especially when mobs start hitting you, you can usually get the recharge of the power to have about a 40% uptime or so. Tie that in with melee radial for more defense, or unleash potential and you're probably set.
-
Read this: https://cod.uberguy.net/html/powerset.html?pset=scrapper_defense.willpower&at=scrapper Otherwise Willpower utilizes a lot of Regen, so plan to build to HP cap when you have your HP boosting accolades. After that is say you can add S/L resistance, while trying to get more typed defense playing into willpower's strength. If you're going to play at high levels, you can also look at using a rune of protection, melee (core or radial depending on your needs), strength of will, and demonic cycle. Otherwise you might give consideration to rebirth radial as well to max out your regen further. I would advise not to waste a power slot on the self res, when you can have a self res prestige power like return to battle.

Titan/SR Scrapper - Tilting madly at windmills.
SeraphimKensai replied to Kalean's topic in Scrapper
I agree focused accuracy is way better than conserve power. You can use IOs, stat boosting accolades to increase your end/end recovery. Between Defensive Sweep and Titan Sweep, I think it matters how many slots you can devote to the power choice. Realistically with quickness I don't think you'll need either for an AoE attack chain, but I do like padding melee defense with defensive sweep for your build since you weren't at the melee incarnate defense soft cap, which will come in handy for lvl 54 mobs/incarnate mobs.- 7 replies

I have a lvl 50 plant/storm and a lvl 50 grav/storm. Between the two of them the plant/storm is quite a bit more fun to play IMO because it's chaotic high damage fun. The Grav is significantly safer for hard lockdowns, but you lose the glory of Seeds. The only real drawback I think a storm controller faces is endurance. With storm you want to maximize your recharge so you can maximize up times/stacks of carrion, freezing rain, tornado, lightning storms. What I recommend doing is going leviathan as you can get water spout going as well, and get access to hibernate for a quick top off on endurance. Otherwise once you get Aegis, you should be set on End.

Titan/SR Scrapper - Tilting madly at windmills.
SeraphimKensai replied to Kalean's topic in Scrapper
At work so I can't view the mids links, but you could do makos in crushing for the 3.75% ranged, which gets you pretty damn close to 45. Just be aware though when your doing incarnate content the defensive soft cap is about 57.5%. the soft cap for 4 star content is around 130%. Also I would take practiced brawler sooner especially if you plan to exempt ever.- 7 replies

Pretty sure the max -resistance that a fire/cold corruptor could potentially put on a target would be 100. Now remember that resistance is its own debuff resistance, and the effects are applied through multiple targets so you're not going to likely hit that number in practical situations. Sleet 22.5% Heatloss 22.5% Achilles 20% Annihilation 12.5% Fury of the Gladiator 20% Reactive 2.5% This requires you to take reactive, have slotted all three -res procs (which forces fury of the Gladiator into your nuke, a pool power like cross punch, or an epic pbaoe), and to use during sleet/heatloss. So you'll only see -100 of the target had no resistance, and everything procs, but it still adds up pretty decently.

I can't seem to stay interested in any one character.
SeraphimKensai replied to Mimpyyme's topic in General Discussion
I also find it difficult to stay interested in a toon, so I have quite a few alts. I kinda quit counting awhile back after getting 250 lvl 50s. It's sad but some of them haven't been played in 3+ years. One of these days I'll have to do a new count. I also have some alts below lvl 50 scattered about. -
Ah I was confused thing you were talking about a character with /Energy Aura her in the scrapper subforum as there's a power called Energy Drain but I guess you were talking about a blaster.
-
Knockdown is a form of damage mitigation through gives you some breathing room, and fuel for more DPS if you are using FF procs. When you say that energy drain started not to work? I'm curious what difficulty your facing and what slotting you have.
-
You can cap all major resistances typically. I run a rotation of meltdown, melee core, and barrier.
-
I agree with our resident bloodsucker here. Congratulations. Playing the lvl 50 character, you'll build up influence, Reward merits, incarnate threads/enp merits, get recipes to drop, etc. you can use mods reborn and make a build on there then work towards slotting it out, unlock accolade powers, do TFs, Itrials, Dark Astoria content, etc.

A ninja with Excalibur sounds interesting. I'm likely to use the Purgatory Sword, but otherwise still working on the character concept. I made the toon with a placeholder costume that I plan to revisit later as I wasn't satisfied with the costume. I might rename too, still haven't decided one way or the other. Build wise the numbers look pretty good for what I want out of the build overall and it has some decent utility for healing/sustain. I don't really see Blinding Powder working into my concept so I'll likely skip it with the overall build as it also doesn't help getting as many swings as I can with momentum;.however, it could be useful for using on a group guarding a glowie if one just wants to click and finish for maximizing speed.
