That -def/-acc toggle also has a lengthy animation time and can often be skipped using in a battle. More so if they are simply blowing through content. Of Time's 9 powers, 3 are actual single target, so your listing isn't as truthful as you are implying. The only aspect which isn't covered in some way from an AoE stand point is -regen. Two of the single target powers for Time have -regen and let's be honest, the harder targets are the ones you want -regen on. Minions are cannon fodder. Two Ill/time controllers can use Temporal Selection on each other. Dual Chocking Cloud is useful, but Ill isn't in melee as much and doesn't have much to take advantage of with AoE damage as compared to Fire. Yes, it's useful. My guess is Distortion Field/Time Stop mixed in with Blind/Flash more than covers what's needed to be held. Note, we are vastly arguing over semantics when it comes to god tier controllers. 😃

I would focus on doing debuffs and such from /time if you think attacking is disrupting things. Case in point, for my /dark controller, I use Darkest Night on a tougher target as the mobs slowly bunch together and then lay down Tar Patch to further keep them bunched up. Granted, on my Dark/dark controller I can fill in for handling alpha strike on my own depending upon the situation. 😀 I was doing that on a team last night against +2s while being 28 with common IOs.

Never played them, but two I can think of would be Time/sonic and Storm/water. You can talk me into subbing in one of the gun based sets with Time. /dark is just too damn good on controllers. While Kin might be my favorite powerset, I'm kind of over it for now, and I just find defenders the least appealing AT for Kin. From ones I played, Rad/sonic. Everyday. Twice on Sunday.

Got on some high level teams recently. Not Incarnate level, but late/end game AV type. The lack of support/debuffs was obvious. One AV wrecked us until proper support was added.
-
Likely any powerset with +recharge will be ones to look at. I have thought about rolling one with either /rad or /elec.

Fire/Time/Dark, the ultimate DPS/Support/Tank hybrid
Without_Pause replied to Auroxis's topic in Corruptor
I already have a Water/ice blaster and trying not to repeat. I did think about Dark/time as well. I think an obvious pairing would be a Fire/time controller but have enough controllers for now, and I could see it replacing this which I'm skipping on having happen. I honestly cut my list of characters by 6(?) recently and can delete a couple more. Any blast/control set which likes melee will pair well with it although certainly not a requirement. Rad/time corr and Ice/time controller would be other examples. -
I say this as someone who virtually ODed on Kin, you want a Time in there somewhere and I would likely sub out the Kin. Subbing out Rad might work as well since the animation times on Rad might be an issue on a buzzsaw team.

Fire/Time/Dark, the ultimate DPS/Support/Tank hybrid
Without_Pause replied to Auroxis's topic in Corruptor
Mentally thinking about builds as of late. Hadn't done Time yet, but just went, "You know, seems like a Fire/time corr would be incredibly good." Came here and saw the build. Being lazy and following the build and taking notes how I might change it later on. Hit 18 and like it a lot overall so far. In the running for my personal top tier, but I need more levels to see how it ends up. My only issue might be going, "You know what else would be awesome with Time?" -

More of a "How the hell was this available?" but got Summertime for a Fire/time corr last night. -
Fire/rad as a classic. Fire/time as the new power couple.

I can't image a set so bad it needs two heals. Usually if a self heal is added in, it is due to not having a heal at all. If you need more than Healing Flames, use some inspirs.
-
They are done so if people fail to give proper feedback. Take a powerset/build. What is it good for? What is it not? What are its strengths and weaknesses? You do you like or not it so much? If you actually bring enough data to support your viewpoint then I hardly see how that leads to weak conclusions.

Skipping some of the posted opinions which make me go O.o. (whistles innocently) One thing of note is that some sets are better on controllers. I'm not sure it makes that much of a difference outside of Kin. I love the power set, but I'm beginning to think it might be mid tier on a defender. I wish Time didn't have annoying sound effects. I really do want to give it a good run. It might have been the first support set I tried coming back. I don't see how FF isn't dead last in today's endgame. I would only roll for it theme. Endgame wise, debuffs are king*. * Outside of things like SB and Fulcrum.

I disagree with it being in the running for best overall control. Several hard lockdown options? Um, where? Like, where compared to other sets? A chain KD and chain confuse. An AoE sleep aren't exactly hard lockdown. End drain is..(rolls dice). Kin/elec was my main on live and I did Elec/kin for HC and up to a point it was one of my favorite builds, but I'm finding it more lacking than what I would want. Initial end game playing hasn't been fun. I'll take Earth for days over Elec.

Not sure anything is unsurpassed unless you are talking from pure damage numbers. Water continues to be fun as hell though.
-
Damage buffs go best with a scrapper so Psi/sd would be the way to go. More so if the bug for tanks ever get fixed.
-
Pointing out Plant has a regen power which plays nice with /storm not having a self heal. If you ever want something more team based, Earth/storm is a beast.
-
You should honestly do a /storm controller instead. En with Hover can work. I had a hardcore one up til 41.

Newbie Question on Positional Defenses
Without_Pause replied to SmalltalkJava's topic in General Discussion
AoE attack is something which is trying to hit more than one target. I'm going to fairly assume single target attacks are the ones which fall into melee and ranged. -
Water/ice blaster. Chilling Embrace, Ice Patch, Shiver and other tools since you are going to be in melee anyway. No snipe, again melee. An attack/regen power so you can mitigate some of the incoming damage. Water Burst can be a nice set up for Ice Patch as well since things are knocked down and thus you get more time for Ice Patch.
-
Certain AVs can be annoying to drain end on. The build you will find comes together rather nicely in the end. Having an AoE sleep to set up for your /kin powers is super nice. Damage is low, but you can eventually get that be to decent.
-
Brutes have higher resist caps, 75% vs. 90% IIRC.
-
+1. Love Wolverine and Hulk. Even made a Claws/regen on live. Made a Cap like character on HC. You can't look at either and say they are direct copies. I have no desire to play direct copies.

Dark/dark controllers get those and more. I concede in a defender having damage earlier on, but once the controller version gets up and running, it is hard to not say that the controller version outshines it. /dark for controllers is also a better version than the defender version. I still think the defender version is quite good. I can see the argument that the controller version has more control than needed, so the defender version works well since it is easier to be offensive with it. In terms of an AV, the controller would have three pets just based on primary and secondary alone to keep an AV entertained with.

For those who don't play Redside - why not?
Without_Pause replied to Legree's topic in General Discussion
I saw a red side team forming. I flipped over to red side and got about three levels for my time and had fun. At the end of the one team we were waiting around for the lead. They came back and said they were sorry about taking time away. Before they left they gave another player and myself a purple recipe as a way of saying thanks. I had switched sides previously for patron reasons. Honestly, I'll likely do it all the more often since it is so simple to do so.
