Here's my thread where I debated making a Defender or Corrupter with Assault Rifle and Trick Arrow. It has my build, a few others, and some discussion on powers and tactics.

I have seen a few of Potato's bases and can vouch for their WOW! quality. To Potato: Excelsior doesn't have as many role-players as Everlasting, but it does have quite a few and many others that would be willing to go along with it for a bit, especially for a quality base. My guess is that almost everyone would want a "functional" base with all the teleporters, vendors, etc. But there would be many variations as to what style or format that might take.

Here's my build: After buffing, I drop a Tide Pool, target boss, Shifting Tides, Tidal Forces, Whitecap, Geyser. That has you (and team) buffed, enemies debuffed and knocked down, tide frenzy active, and you in melee. You can stay there or drop back. Tough bosses or second boss in group can be hit with Brine. Note that initially starting with Tide Pool and Shifting Tides does NOT alert enemies UNLESS you put procs in them, including ANY Incarnate Interface power. I also use Torroidal Bubble and Power of the Depths whenever recharged, even if it still shows as active. The Bubble will refresh the timer on the resist, but you get a big endurance burst and PotD decays over time so you get back to capped. I went with a resist armor but am still debating whether to switch to a defense based one. Getting mezzed sucks and this has little to prevent that until you get to incarnates. But with Clarion or Barrier you should be good.

You should start an "Inconsiderate Forum Departures" thread.

If someone only asks "what should I play?" without any other qualifiers or a choice between A and B, then try them all is a perfectly acceptable response in my eyes because I have no idea what that person likes. Or at least give us an idea if you are min/maxing, soloing, playing with a group of friends, building for PvP or 4 star, trying to make an homage to Superman or other super, or even prefer range, melee, DPS, support, etc. Although, to be fair, I don't think I would ever recommend Kin melee or poison on an MM. But I also would not discourage a person from playing that if that's what they wanted to play. Even if they ask, "what does the most DPS" we can just say "Fire" or refer them to Ston's charts and other stuff, but even those depend as much on the build as the powerset. And as it has been demonstrated by Videra in Koopak's Clear Speed challenge, you can make a Sentinel that clears a Pylon in seconds . . . with temp powers and only concentrating on short term DPS without regard to survival or sustainability. Anyway, I think we've gone off on a bit of a tangent. I blame Mac!

I don't think that's fair for a few reasons: 1) The "play what you want" crowd includes a lot of people. I would put myself in that group and I don't consider myself unhelpful. Would you put me down as unhelpful? 2) I'm not seeing any "get over it" responses. Literally or figuratively. At least in this thread. I have seen it elsewhere. 3) I'm not seeing anyone, in this thread, arguing against improvements.

Like Without_Pause above, some players have run detailed tests and rated different power sets according to DPS. So you can get a ranking of most damaging to least damaging per unit of time. But just DPS doesn't account for burst damage or sustain or any kind other effect or fun factor. And then there are combinations of powersets that players have done crazy hard stupid things that should not be possible and other people try to make those to see if they can do the same. Finally, there are groups that run the endgame content at the hardest levels and they have developed entire teams built around a distribution of powersets. Those are all perfectly reasonable and fun things to do. But any AT with any pairing of powersets can solo 90% of the content at level 50 with a good build at +1/x8 settings. Many can do higher settings but all can do that. And any AT with any pairing of powersets can also level from 1-50 with a crappy build at +0/x1 settings, as long as you know how to play and use all the tools available in game. So while you may need (or want) a Ferrari (super duper flavor of the month powers and build), a Hyundai (any old powersets with a questionable build) will get you were you need to go. And that's not even mentioning all the space on the continuum between Ferrari and Hyundai. So you go ahead and level that Necro/Poison and make it as good as you want it.

Out of hundreds of characters in several servers, I think I have three that use more than the default character: One HEAT, one VEAT, and one Cold/Dark Defender that I made a PvP build for. So while I probably won't use it, I don't have an argument against, barring some technical issue. Even if it's doable on Ourodev, having thousands of characters suddenly have extra builds might have unforseen consequences. Because of that, I think I might prefer to move slowly and add one additional build at first to gauge effects and popularity. And now that I typed that, I wonder if the Devs have easy access to how many characters actually use multiple builds?
