Chalkarts
I'm a huge fan of Ice armor but I don't like Ice Melee(The Ice swords bug me), I had an Ice/Stone on Live that I'm kind of rebuilding, but i'm thinking of changing the Stone melee to another thing. I'm looking at Martial Arts just because a big giant teddy bear doing roundhouse kicks entertains me, but I don't know how effective that set is or if I should be looking elsewhere. I'm thinking of focusing on the characters attack speed for enhancements and endurance to feed the fast attacks. Is Martial arts an ok power to pair with Ice Armor?
Sir Myshkin
You do you, my friend, and you won't be disappointed. I can't say I've ever seen an ice cube perform Martial Arts, but hey! One more Ice Tanker in the game is a betterment for all Ice-Tank-Kind! Personally partial to Ice/Stone/Stone as you can become a pocket-controller with a lot of crowd mez/kd effects stacked on top of Chilling Embrace, but Martial will get you into another KD PBAoE and a couple of ST effects too. 1 Pylon Test Run Submission Proc Monsters (Controller Edition) Proc Monsters (Defender Edition) Pylon Test Run Results Proc Monsters (Tanker Edition) "Mad King Special" "Ceterum autem censeo Iram esse delendam" Mad King Special - Force Edition (NEW!) Sura
I did Ice/Staff and just didn't feel like they worked well together. Then I thought I'd goof with an Ice/Elec to leverage all the End Drain powers (Energy Absorption in Ice and almost everything in Elec) and have had a great time. Maybe look at things like that, come up with a twist (or use mine) and then see how it feels. I also had Ice/Axe back in the day, and loved the character, but Axe isn't a great secondary no matter how you spin it IMO. Elec has three screen shake AoE knockdown powers (the Clap needs an ENH to be knockdown) including Lightning Rod which (again IMO) has to be one of the best openers in the game. Android Nim
My main "back in the day" was an ice/fire tanker Just got around to rolling a new ice tanker. Going ice/spines for maximum aggro (you can change the spines to look kind of like gnarly icicles too) Really fun so far.
Frostweaver
My main was an ice/fire also. Named, obviously, Frostweaver. With the defense debuff resistance, as well as being able to slot some decent resistance, ice is much stronger now than it was then. Combustion is, of course, the great tanker equalizer.... and with a little color-shifting fire can sure look a lot like Freezing mist with much cooler-looking swords. I am not sure why they ever added the swords, though... except that when fire and ice were created, fire was the only way for an efreeti to get a scimitar. Warboss
My faves for Ice/* are: Ice/Fire, very fun combo Ice/Spines, very adaptable (turned mine into a "healer", because I could)(Holds aggro incredibly well) Ice/Dark, because I could. I imagine Ice/Rad Melee would be pretty fun too, but haven't rolled one yet. Nothing warms your opponent like Fiery Melee. mbre2006
Back in the day I used to play with an Ice/EnergyMelee tank. Slows and stuns are all you need.
JCMcBoo
Ice/Dark sounds like a good combo. The -to hit/-acc secondary in DM will help with tanking. You also get a second self heal, an endurance boost and a damage boost! You can easily change the color of the power to white so it looks like frost. 1 "As Nintova suggests, you can treat a tanker like a melee controller." - Heraclea
Chalkarts
Warboss put the thought of Ice/Rad into my head. I looked it over, It would get 2 damage auras, some good AoE damage from the contamination and if every attack reduces defense that makes the damage auras that much more lethal. I'm thinking it could be an AoE beast. It would also be able to keep hate well due to the various AoE auras. I'll have to decide how to set it out. I could focus on damage and accuracy and just plow through enemies. Or I could focus on regen and walk slowly through doomed foes. Off to MIDS with me. Any advice or experiences with this build would be most appreciated.
AurianArchive
Here's a backport from an Ice / Mace / Pyre in the Archive. [Irradiated Ground] does not yet support Archetype enhancements, and as no indication has been given by the current powers team on when ATO's will be enabled for all currently Disabled-but-Eligible-Powers, I went into a quick Revision 2 to better optimize for the available powers. At the top end you'll be packing Soft-caps to S/L/E/N/F/C damage types BEFORE casting [Energy Absorption]. [Hoarfrost] is at Perma without [Hasten]: 120s recharge on a 120s timer. So with accolades up you'll be pushing ~3499 hitpoints with ~35hp/s regeneration. The energy resists are pathetic though, so this isn't a build that can go toe-to-toe with Tower Boosted Recluse. Keep a jetpack handy for that AV fight. Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.962http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! quietkane
Ice/Dark. "The Long Winter." Lots of end management tools. Strong incentive to get lots of recharge. Dark's -ToHit has strong synergy with defense sets. Ice's dual aggro toggles help mitigates dark's lack of AoE. Dark's self-heal helps you rely less on Hibernate. Ice in general tends to feel a bit subpar until you're in your mid twenties, and dark melee can't completely fix that. But by level 30 it's pretty damn fun. I went with "Glacial Chaos" for mine. Enjoy the combo! Nothing warms your opponent like Fiery Melee. Frostweaver
I have been playing in ice/rad 'nuclear winter' lately. The combination is weirdly synergistic and surprisingly destructive. Because you take things at a slightly slower pace, EVERYTHING you fight is generally contaminated and the explosion damage is quite telling. It's only a shame that they changed rad's 'proc bleed' effect. the aggro control is even more disgusting than Ice's usual overkill. I've rolled on named "Dr. Rad Winters" He's lvl 20 and I'm having a blast with him. I cant wait until i unlock my icicles and knockdown patch. ThrillMill
Has anyone considered paring Ice Armor with Kinetic Melee for stacking -DMG? Chilling Embrace + KM attacks and the option of picking up Darkest Night from the Soul Mastery Patron Pool could stack up something in the ballpark of -50% damage on a single target and around -28% on surrounding mobs? That's gotta be some decent mitigation?
Giocondi
Would my no purples Ice/Battle Axe build be relatively resilient tanking (except Psi)? Anyone have tweaks? Tnekmeister
way way waaaay back i7-i9 I got my first char to 50 and that was a Ice/Nrg tank.. running with the "glowly pom-poms of doom" back then was quite fun, esp in PvP where you had a chance back then... tho it was long ago and I've grown up 🙂 My MA experience comes from being a Scrapper and that's a Single Target dmg set, so go for it! I say
WindDemon21
Ice armor is great, on a tank you should be able to cap your defense anyway, but with MA its nice and easy with the 10% global defense buff it gives with storm kick, and ice armor will give you extra aoe damage with icicles, and its aoe aggro control will help offset the lack of aoe that MA has. It's a really solid combo. If you really want to use that MA defense buff though roll a Dark/MA, WP/MA, or Invuln/MA, they use it better, Especially Dark armor, plus the stuns stack with OG so it's super fun. I would agree I think rad melee is the best pairing with the heal, and even more aoe, plus good ST attack damage. But spines is also great for the best aoe taunting because spine burst is up faster, and it and quills have a larger radius to them, plus throw spines. unfortunately quills isn't until 35 though (rads toggle may be as well i have to check), but it does get ripper at like level 16 i think so you can have a better attack chain sooner. The -rech/-speed also stacks with Ice Armor's. Any of the weapons sets work pretty well with it too really, Ice Armor can handle it's own when slotted up.
