Illu/rad,

Illu/traps!,

Illu/storm

(earth instead)

If you would, top why yes/no for what you'd pick.

Consider pls as 50 io/incarnate'd, so they all have perms PA.

I exclusively group. Will likely clarion/intuition.

Your opinions appreciated

It'd be good, you're right. But I've just 'finished' a dark dark controller who's silly good (somewhat akin to what you've been posting on lately). Almost team invulnerability, before even thinking about healing.

Something different, Illu or earth. I just fear earth to be entirely useless on encounters like hami.

I've never been patient enough with storm to get to 38,and I have to suffer constant qq about gale, even though I'm moving them on top of melee.

Traps seems neat, but again, no real xp with the set.

Personally I'd never do a storm that didn't have access to an immobilize (either in set or in an epic), so no illusion/storm for me.  It isn't the knockback so much as it causes things to run away too much for my liking (tornado and lightning storm both have a "run away" fear affect).  Some people like the chaos though, so you might enjoy it.

Illusion/dark and Illusion/rad are probably my two favorites.  I use /time too much on my masterminds where I like it better, but ill/time is amazing as well no doubt.

4-stars to this thread title~

Moving forward, I have rolled and leveled both an Ill/Rad and Ill/trap.  Both are now 50 and neither one is incarnated or IO'd out yet. Illusion/Traps has all the goodies. Which includes mez protection and strong debuffs. I will say this, I know that /traps is awesome but I still feel outclassed on teams by people running more visibly active sets. In reality, I know my /Traps is contributing but other sets with flashy effects and big green numbers do overshadow it. Solo, I ❤️ my ill/traps toon as Illusion gives it so many tools to keep the heat off  you while you place traps. I'll put it another way, Ill/Traps is  sneaky OP.

My Illusion/Rad is much more straight forward toon. Great buffs + tanking pets makes you feel awesome. Also, it's the old school solo build for Controllers. Teams love AM, but  AM doesn't buff Phantom Army directly.  However, AM buffs gives you more +recharge. Which makes it easier to keep spamming Phantom Army. You can't go wrong here at all.

Storm looks a bit too chaotic for my personal tastes.  However, it's an established damage dealing combo and I can't imagine anyone would be unhappy with it.

Ok here's one weird effect of having PA-Clones on team. You are freaking EVERYWHERE... blasting over here... buffing over there. It feels awesome and indeed super. But self-duplication is one of my favorite comic-book superpowers!

A bit late, but I'll advocate Ill/Sonic for grouping.  Sonic isn't popular for legit solo reasons, but at low level your team +Res is handy.  At high level, your team -Res is a godsend.

Okokok, so searching I find myself at another Illu controller and my own thread!

You're all so clever... So what you say?

He's an Illu controller... He just is.

But what secondary?!

  • Can you perma PA with sonic or that gonna be bothersome?
  • Dark has slots for LotG
  • Storm because f**k it?
  • Traps is kinda meh (just imo)
  • Trick arrow?!
  • there's always rad
  • Pain dom is cool but is terrible
  • Cold Dom nope.
  • Thermal... Hm...?
  • Nature, no.
  • ...

all the recent threads saying dark... prolly dark... watch them stealth buff sonic resonance (its in need, like ff... and pain dom...)

I find my Illusion/Trick Arrow just works a lot better than anything else. While you need to slot a ton of recharge, you've got the powers to do so since everything you do is offensively-oriented. Your debuffs are unmatched for crippling enemies and you've got an 'ultimate' AE you can use.

Ooohhh buffed TA, that's right! I spent like 6h making illu/thermal (good but not punchy enough), illu/dark (but got bored as I have a 50 dark dark), then went to an earth / storm and almost got distracted... Then did illu/time which is neat.

Then sulked because /sonic is terrible... having spent like 12m on unslotters moving thing around thinking 'this is the one!'

Illu/TA huh? Got any trixy builds for ref? It'd fix the 'I can't do containment' problem?

(recycled a nber of other parked ones, it wasn't really 6h, maybe 3.5... Toge drinks a lot of cough medicine)

In theory it fixes it. In practice, a Mag 3 single target Immobilize is hard to use for Containment and there aren't any good options for AE Containment (at least as I slot the powers). I have multiple stacking ST holds, but I slot them as Holds (and, frankly, don't use them all that much except for debuffing).

While Oil Slick is useful as a big boom, my overall attitude is "let the pets kill it".

I think I've posted it elsewhere, but my latest build is below.

We are bored. Post a build in a separate thread. If the community can't optimize it, I'm sure someone has a build that hits all the build milestones.

^ illu / sonic seems asking too much? absolutely nothing about powers/slotting was for anything but gambler slots and trying to ram up recharge.

perhaps I should make a sonic/sonic defender and pray they buff the set... i hear its a good for speedy runs and things.

for this guy illu / time seems decent. illu / ta is neat, but husbando made a TA/archery def and would get pissy if I steal limelight.

dark sure would be (the controller ver is just plain awesome) but I don't like the no overlap with shadowfall, and have a very well equipped dark/dark who sits unplayed mostly...

300% recharge is a lot...

/Mace a must?

No, just one with a gambler slot.

Sonic resonance could be good... The single target banish / intangible is nice, but super situational for things like secreting away a tower.

The -res toggle on an ally is great, melee make that work, and the rings around one character 'seem' to have a side effect of tunnel vision Ed groups following the colored rings!

Liquify needs to have its cool down cut to 1/3 it's current imo.

Comparing it with thermal... It's different, but thermal gets Heals, and sonic doesn't get great replacements.

It and ff are in dire need imo. Also pain, but it sort of works with dp.

@Bopper  @Hyperstrike Any insight on how this function works?

It takes the enhancements in your mids build and creates two macros. So when you create the character on Beta, you can hit the first macro to load your enhancement tray with the first half of enhancements. After you slot those, you hit 2nd macro to refill with the remaining enhancements

That makes sense. It does the shopping but we still have to cook the meal.

That makes sense. It does the shopping but we still have to cook the meal.

I'd say freebies is shopping. This is more like your groceries being delivered

I KNOW! OMFGBBQ!!!111eLeVeNty!1!!!11! It is under the Export/Import menu.

@Bopper  @Hyperstrike Any insight on how this function works?

  1. You activate it.
  2. It asks you to point it at the root of your CoH folder.
  3. It then creates a popmenu for you.
  4. You log into beta, create the base, level 1 character.
  5. On the chat menu, there's an option to level yourself up.
  6. Assign the slots so the in-game build looks like the out-of-game build.
  7. You then have two items on the popmenu to feed you the IOs you need to create the build.

This sounds wonderous for testing things out!

Especially since on Beta you can give yourself all your accolades and everything too.
