I've rediscovered the game recently and applaud the efforts the team has put in to recreating and improving it, especially some of the QoL improvements.

One of my niggles with the original game was that some colours weren't quite right for the heroes and villains I wanted to create and I was wondering if it would be feasable to change the color picker.  I was speaking to a friend about this and he said it had already been done on a different server so something like that was possible.  I've had a look around and dug up the image below  from Thunderspy's page.

I'd be very grateful if something similar could be implemented here.  I don't think that I would be the only one who would appreciate this facility.

Thank you.

👍 Thanks for the reply and sorry for my late response.  I've looked at the thread you mentioned and it seems abandoned / shelved.  Currently crossing my fingers and sacrificing my first born to Hamidon in the hope that it gets looked at again.

Can I just point out that no one can really see subtle color variations except in the costume creator and load screen?

Is it worth loading up the game engine with a broader pallette management just so we can tweak our own view a little bit?

What @BZRKR said. Yes.

I use a color wheel to pick a color palettes before starting in the costume creator and often find that I have to make compromises on colors. It would be awesome if we had the full array available.

More options is best options!

...until your framerate in, say, Atlas Plaza crashes to single digits trying to manage 16M colors for all the clotheshorses. 🙂

I have no objection to the suggestion, but even as a designer I don't find myself limited by the current color options and I wouldn't want to trade game performance for more fun in costume creator. (I also note that there's often only a loose correlation between the color patch and the result; I often have to use three or four different swatches to get an all-matching result.)

If there's no performance hit, I have no objections at all.

I would have to go back home and look at the Sentinel+ character saves I made before the Snap, but I think that color is saved in the costume data as RGB values already, not indexes into a master color table, so giving people a full color wheel to pick colors from instead of the grid wouldn't change anything.

Yes they are.  I've tried editing them in the .costume file but it then makes the part they reference invalid when you try and reload it.

Having the values stored in the costume files validated as a 'snap to quantization' check is one of the things that would be altered if we were given the full RGB wheel to play with. But having them stored as RGB values means that the file format doesn't need to be changed.

If colour count in textures tanks your framerate, you need a new PC.

100% support this functionality. I very often find the color selection lacking in trying to achieve things I'm trying to get. I use a lot of desaturated colors when designing characters in programs like Heroforge and others, but when it comes to CoH, I do not have much of a choice in the matter and often get colors that are "not quite good enough" for what I'm trying to achieve. *especially* when it comes to multi-colored skin tones like reds, blues, greens, and etc. and I'm trying to achieve something a little more "realistic" (at least for a fantasy setting) and not quite as bright or vivid.

I would like this kind of thing available for both clothing pieces and skin tones, it would help a lot with makeup, paints, clothes, skin tones, even a little bit of weapon colors.

Just a thought.  The costume file just has rgb values for the pieces.  Can't you just save the colors you want there and load the file?  I dont know if the color values get deprecated at the NPCs.

I do find the current palette limited, there's fewer options in the warmer side of the spectrum (reds, oranges, yellows) and because I was trying to emulate a particular color mix I found on an animated character's costume from a film (not trying to recreate the character just using the colors) I discovered there's no satisfyingly teal color either.

I wish we could choose palettes for powers, too.  When it comes to ice powers, I hate the faded out colors that are available.  Maybe I want to do black ice or a vibrant red as frozen blood or bright green similar to the force field colors just because.

I'm glad to see this thread was resurrected, because an update to the costume and skin palettes are sorely needed.

The powers could as well, but i don't think it's as drastic of a need.

Basically, we have the 90s Marvel palette and just need 2000's DC.

Alternatively, RGB sliders like we have for in-game chat bubbles would be ideal.

Along with an option to temp/perm save colors.

(Keeping a standard palette available, too.)

Then i can make the tan colored character i was going to make before i came here to find this thread, because there is no 'tan'. 😃

There are not enough colours, period. And some of them we are forced into. Trying to design a Stone Armor character using Crystal skins? All colors are washed up, there are not bright colors (why??).

The numbers of times I fight with the character creator trying to get just the right shade of blue but the next option already goes into purples.

But there is also a disconnect between what we see in the character creation screen and the open world. I would like to have a toggle to see how my character would look in the open world instead of an idealized version that does not match.

Sometimes the texture of one piece does not mix well with another in the same category... most especially sleeves in the Jackets, Shirts, and Robes section... but also some of the pieces in tights.  It's infuriating that they gave us the option to mix and match different sleeve options for creative fashion but then gave us a huge middle finger on those pieces not meshing together correctly because the textures throw off the colors.
