Worst Build Combos

Said elsewhere and a hill I'm willing to die on, but animations over 2 seconds shouldn't be a thing. I lose count how often a Rad melee attack goes overused. Far more of a good set due to its AoEs versus a fun one. StJ is built for regen due to its animations. Longest animation has a cast time of 2.17 seconds and its CU. Not even the AoEs go 2 seconds.

I was surprised to see Bill appear to rank Fiery Melee under Kinetic Melee, but I understand from some people on the forum that supposedly it’s a little better if you make your chain just from Tier 1-3.

My Stone/Kin/Earth tanker uses a lot of procs in the slower moves, so decent raw damage values but DPA not so much. Will be reevaluating its build (already Graniteless!) once all the buffs come out.

KM animations with some custom color are pretty dang cool to look at though.

This. I don't even play my Rad/Rad brute anymore since Devastating Blow is just ridiculous and Radiation Siphon not amazing in the animation time department. It's just not fun.

Yes true. THhhheeeeeyyyyy aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrreeeeee soooooooo lllllllooooonnnnnggggg. "Let's wave my hands around doing some nice Tai chi slow moves, for unknown reason before finally punching my target". The animations are beautiful, but dang, Kinetic melee is so slow. One cone power does a knockback so, not only, your attacks are slow, you have to move around. Worst, the cone knockback is counter productive to taunt auras that buff the player and debuff the mobs... So any combo with Kinetic Melee is not so great.

Kinetic melee should be more like Donny Yen in Ip Man. His attacks are still very stylish and they are still very close to Tai chi moves, but they are fast and efficient.  THAT would make Kinetic melee great and it would still fit the concept of Kinetics. But right now, it is pretty slow and the damage is not so great either.

Speed is less of an issue if the damage was there, but it isn't.

Not sure I am qualified to say because I quite enjoy playing all sorts, like empathy defenders, solo, through Praetoria 🤣

I would say some Controller combos are probably the hardest if you play them solo. Particularly ones with /FF or /Empathy.

Clever slotting can make anything work though…

I'm playing a grav/FF controller which is actually pretty good at solo. Doesn't even need much in the way of slotting either outside of -KB protection and a stealth IO. People underestimate FF having that status protection, much less the other survival tools at your disposal.

I can't stand my original toon an elec/elec blaster, but maybe that's because that was back in CoH Beta and I was still learning the game.

I disapprove of this post! 😛

Most controllers are a bit of a pain to solo, until they reach lvl32 (pet level), because of their low damage output. Before level 32, it is safe to solo, but you rely a lot on sands of mu and the like for your damage output. Otherwise, it takes forever to defeat the mobs. Once you get your pet, the pace of the solo missions improves a lot and it is a lot more fun.

And yes, I realize that many would consider "anything with Kinetic Melee in it" also to be a valid answer.

Unless it's a Stalker...

I'm as <_< about KM on other ATs as anyone, but on a Stalker it's enough fun that I main a KM/Bio.

That said. I hate... absolutely Can. Not. Stand... Staff Stalking.

I leveled a Staff/WP Stalker to 50 over on Paragon, but somehow between then and now, I'd managed to forget just how much the complete opposite of fun-to-play I found him. So, like a fool, I recently started another one here.  He's 40 and I'm about an inch from just deleting his whiffy, annoying butt. 😫

My Staff Scrap? I like him. I had good fun leveling Carwyn.

The Stalker? Errff. No thanks. I'll go back to my KMs any day of the week.

I've also had miserable luck with Archery Sentinels and darn near ANYTHING Dark Armor.

I'm the complete opposite, I love my Staff/Inv Stalker but don't care for Staff on other ATs. He used to be a /WP too btw, until in his early twenties I realized Stalkers don't get their endurance tools... so I rerolled him. Never doing any/WP on a Stalker ever again.

Worst build combo that I tried would be a Rad/Inv/Leviathan Sentinel. I think someone suggested this combo on this forum a long time ago, as a build that could fit in the most Kryptonian-like abilities. The idea was to only take X-Ray Beam and the T9 from the primary, and rely on the full Fighting pool plus KO Blow and Arctic Breath from the epic for damage.

Thankfully I tested him on Brainstorm first because as expected his DPS was anemic and he never felt Super. It kinda works in theory but it takes the self-gimping-for-concept a bit too far. Not recommended.

This reminds me of the build I used on live for my AR/Dev blaster. If you can remember back that far, when a blaster got mezzed he would drop his toggles. So he decided never to take targetting drone. Just using accuracy slotting. He had all the Devices secondary except targetting drone. I would hear cry of-- thats the best power in the set!. No it wasnt if it gets dropped when you need it the most, what good is it? So I understand where you are coming from with this build. Have fun with it.
