I have not seen any of this.  As the old saying goes, "Anything asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence"...

I had friends on Live I spoke with everyday.  I have no friends now. 😞  I've changed over the years and I'm sure some other people have changed too.

I only restarted about 2 weeks ago after a 2 year hiatus.  95% of the time I'm too anxious/nervous/worried to join groups, but everything's been ok in the ones I've been in.

there are some good small groups running.  On Excelsior i have joined Justice Superteamers.  They run themed teams Friday and Sunday night.  ( 8 pm EST, 5 pm Pacific )  They have discord.  It is a mature group.  On Sunday we ran a +2 Master Eden.  It was a cakewalk.

It's not a cakewalk without an actual cake at the end of it. That'd be like having a blood drive with no blood.

If you're on Everlasting, Repeat Offenders exists.  We're not anywhere near as active as we were on Live, but I always start in our global channel when looking for or starting a team.

I heard from an AI that they have a room dedicated to cake at Portal Corp that's to die for. So much so that the security is insane.

Probably behind that wall all the employees walk through.

I recently joined in July. My experience was very much like COH of old, I joined a DFB that was recruiting, someone said, hey be sure to get your 2xp working. I expressed that I was new and didn't know how. Someone guided me to the start vendor, gifted me with 1mil inf and guided me through the process to get the 2xp buff. After that DFBx2 a lot of the team continued to run a posi 1, then a posi 2. It was the normal glorious steamrolling. The buffs from DFB allowed me to just keep going until level 20 without having to deal with enhancements too much.

Since that time my experience has been running and playing TFs and doing Hami and MSR. It has been very positive with a few incidents with trolls. Most of my teams end with everyone saying "this was a great team, thanks all, tc"

I have yet to join a farm or do anything in AE. In my downtime I mostly do exploration badges. 5 months later I have 12 50s. I followed the noob guides for building up inf. That 1mil gift really helped since it funded my first crafted IOs once I did that. Really I am enjoying the nostalgia and just having a blast running TFs and MoTFs and such.

but they all left because they felt the community was becoming toxic to new players.

This makes it sound like multiple people had unpleasant encounters and individually concluded the community was toxic.  I've been here since about a month after Homecoming launched and, in my experience, that seems EXTREMELY unlikely.

What seems far more likely is one of the following:

1) As a group, they encountered one toxic individual and that made a negative impression on all of them.  Every community has jerks and you will run into them eventually.  If they had the bad luck to run into one when just starting out, that's unfortunate.

2) ONE of them had a bad experience and conveyed it to the others and now their opinion has been affected by the one person.

Having said that, I'm not sure what you're asking with your post.  I mean, I understand the words but, just as different people can be more or less 'toxic' at various times, every persons IMPRESSION of toxicity is different.  Does the community feel toxic TO YOU?  That's what matters.  Also, I think it's kind of self-evident that, as a community, we don't think it's toxic or we wouldn't be here.

The other benefit of being on Everlasting is "Everlasting TFs", a group that runs a lot of complex and difficult content.  I've gotten every Mastery Badge on my main Badger thanks to them, including all the iTrials.

Repeat Offenders and Everlasting TFs is the ONE-TWO punch that helps make City great on Everlasting!  😺

In game, I find people are very friendly and helpful, especially to new players.

Occasionally arguments pop up but that will happen anywhere people are.

On the forums and Discord arguments can get a little more heated.  Everyone here is really passionate about the game and can sometimes get carried away.  But that's part of the job of GMs.

If you see toxic behavior in game, forums, or Discord file a petition or otherwise notify the GM team.

^^This.

I've probably put on ignore in-game, maybe 2 or 3 people since I started playing HC in early 2019. Generally folks are fairly helpful with info or even joining a team to help a player through a mission giving them a pounding.

Here in the forums discussions can get very heated (could be bordering toxic to some I suppose). With new players I've seen this happen with they posts commenting on some in-game mechanic, powerset, or perceived issue with the incomplete or non-existent knowledge of the game's mechanics/design, to which knowledgeable veteran players will provide details on the why and whatfore, and the OP doubles down. After that, all bets are off.

Dislike certain sounds? Silence/Modify specific sounds. Looking for modified whole powerset sfx?

Check out Michiyo's modder or Solerverse's thread.  Got a punny character? You should share it.

I don't often feel anxious/nervous/worried.
I do often feel impatient. But, every now and then, someone will be recruiting for something I'm just about to run and I'll join in.

Nobody has ever said anything bad about my atrocious costume. Although I did have to give one leader a hard time for skipping the cutscene in Aeon because my costume change was AWESOME and they missed it! That got a good laugh from folks, particularly coming from me.

Nobody has ever said anything about my slightly better than mediocre play. I even got recognized once in a MoM trial for saving this pug league of slackers who couldn't be bothered to hug in a blue aura. And I was held, too! But that was just being lucky, smashing all those buttons with my elbows while I had a drink.

I get more anxious about answering questions in help these days than I do about teaming. I see so many folks give such poor advice, it makes me want to scream. And then, I look at the market (and I haven't done any marketing in maybe 6 months...not like I used to anyway) and I recognize the landscape of AH has changed a lot. So maybe the advice isn't so poor now.

Heaven help us all if merits are the best way to get something like a steadfast protection 3% def(all).
But I digress.

Most jerks reveal themselves in their recruiting message. You just have to be on the lookout. Folks that use a macro for their recruiting...I'm wary of those buggers. (sarcastic)
Folks that spell the words wrong, and have no idea what the minimum level is - like asking for 50's on an ITF - those are the guys that are in a real hurry and have learned from bitter experience. Some folks will fit right in, and some folks will not. Kind of have to be able to read between the lines there and determine if you'll fit in.
