beveri8469 Posted Wednesday at 01:31 PM Posted Wednesday at 01:31 PM okay ive been watching st:ds9 on P+ and it got me thinking about making an ST themed character on coh. and honestly im having a hard time trying to come up with something. i need some suggestions on what would be some good powers and what kind of archtype to play. would love some suggestions. please and thank you
TheOtherTed Posted Wednesday at 03:16 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:16 PM (edited) Not an easy question. First, we don't have anything to approximate an iconic phaser pistol (at least, not to my knowledge). Second, future tech and non-human aliens place you squarely in the space of "anything goes." But off the top of my head, here are some powersets that might work for a good old fashioned human that, IMO, would fit in from TOS to DS9: Beam Rifle (Blaster, Corruptor, Defender, Sentinel) Devices (Blaster) Martial Arts (Brute, Scrapper, Stalker, Tanker) Martial Combat (Blaster secondary) Ninja Training (Blaster secondary) Ninjitsu (Scrapper, Sentinel, Stalker) Traps (Defender, Controller, Corruptor, Mastermind) Street Justice (Brute, Scrapper, Stalker, Tanker) Super Strength (Brute, Tanker) * Super Reflexes (Brute, Scrapper, Sentinel, Stalker, Tanker) Willpower (Brute, Scrapper, Sentinel, Stalker, Tanker) In addition, any armed melee set not mentioned here would work for enthusiasts, as well as human-adjacent aliens with martial traditions. Edited Thursday at 12:59 PM by TheOtherTed * Forgot one. Thanks to everyone for reminding me how important it was in TOS.
ThaOGDreamWeaver Posted Wednesday at 03:47 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:47 PM Keep thinking a ToS themed Robot Mastermind would be fun, if they ever let us customise Minions. (Helluva wear and tear on the shirts, though.) 1 WAKE UP YA MISCREANTS AND... HEY, GET YOUR OWN DAMN SIGNATURE. Look out for me being generally cool, stylish and funny (delete as applicable) on Excelsior.
TheOtherTed Posted Wednesday at 08:31 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:31 PM (edited) Wear and tear? How do you mean? Edited Wednesday at 08:33 PM by TheOtherTed Words. Words are hard.
Excraft Posted Wednesday at 10:45 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:45 PM Something like Martial Arts or Street Justice as a primary and Willpower as a secondary would make a good Kirk-type scrapper. Of course, MA or StrJ doesn't hold a candle to the sheer awesomeness of the Kirk-fu style of combat. 1

You might consider asking @Trike for some insight. Trike made some pretty effective Trek homages a while back. "Old security men never die. They just wander over the hill, scream, and never return." - Some old Starfleet admiral somewhere. Me? I have The Walking Red. Beam Rifle/Energy Aura sentinel I consider it a reasonable equivalent to a phaser rifle with a personal force field. Admittedly the latter is a rarely-used conceit in Star Trek, but it has been done before, such as the Star Trek: Elite Force video games. My character was meant as a parody, and I only rarely play it, though it's pretty fun. As I'm working up the security ranks, I've been adding...what else...teleporter tech to him, and I keep a stocked supply of jetpacks handy. 2

Unfortunately my video card imploded last November so I don’t have access to my PC, but here are a couple Star Trek posts. For Uhura of the Mirror Universe (or in my version, O’Hiya from the Reflected Universe) I used dual knives because she was all about cutlery. For Spock (Dr. Logic) I went with Mind Control/Time Manipulation. For everyone else I used Beam Rifle. 1

Nice to be confirmed! 😁 And now that I'm thinking on it, I'd really appreciate a retooling of those two Elite Force games, with better graphics and some improved mechanics. Those were fun games for their day. 1
