Relvinian Posted Sunday at 10:52 PM Posted Sunday at 10:52 PM (edited) Monday some of my paper and pencil rpg nerd friends are going to hop on discord and meet me on homecoming to play coh. 1. Should i let them learn the game or push them like the vet i am? 2. What sort of low key support toon would be good to tag along with them if i want to help them but not push them as they explore the game? it's potentially 4-5 new players for the server. Lunar Ronin Posted Sunday at 11:27 PM Posted Sunday at 11:27 PM 1. Let them learn the game, but be available to answer questions that they have. Push them to do the Outbreak or Breakout tutorial, depending on which side y'all decide to play on. 2. X/Radiation Emission Corruptor. You'll be able to make mobs easier to hit with the -defense from Radiation Infection, buff your friends' damage and recharge with Accelerate Metabolism, debuff the damage that mobs do with Enervating Field, and debuff the resistance and regeneration of any AVs or GMs y'all encounter. 1 1
Snarky Posted Sunday at 11:54 PM Posted Sunday at 11:54 PM Corruptor is what I was going to say. But Lunar nailed it. New players dont know about END issues. You can at least solve that in the team outings, keeping things going. Glad to have new geeks aboard! Welcome!!! 1
Skyhawke Posted Monday at 10:31 AM Posted Monday at 10:31 AM Kinetics would also be a good one. You could handle end issues with speed boost while also amusing yourself with speed boost. 1 1 Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute Alts galore. So...soooo many alts. Originally Pinnacle Server, then Indomitable and now Excelsior

I'd say ease them into things - If they are PC gamers already, then basic controls should be easy to pick up. It's the needs to tab-target and learn the power/enh/IO/Incarnate systems that may be a bit more demanding. 21 hours ago, Relvinian said: 2. If we're assuming that they've grasped the basics of moving their characters, selecting targets, and activating powers, then I'd suggest one of my favorite support combinations; An Earth Control/Pain Domination Controller; Tons of soft/hard control, healing, and some fun buffs!!!
Water Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago I'd say that a Corruptor is hard to solo (for first timers) despite being great in a team. If I had to recommend something it would be Blaster as they can be effective solo and in a team whilst observing and learning the game. You might want to warn them off the HEATs and the VEATs initially until they have some experience in the game. Additionally this is a must resource:- https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Main_Page as is this page from the same wiki:- https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Enhancement_Sets and these useful two:- https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Strike_Force https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Task_Forces Hope your friends have fun and don't forget to have them sign a disclaimer in case they cannot put the game down and it takes over their lives!
Wintercat Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Mastermind (to me) is pretty much easy-mode, because I may have to observe, but I don't have to click a lot, and can focus on buffing/debuffing. I tend to prefer soloing with blasters and sentinels because they have singular focus on debuffing the enemy health bar.
Relvinian Posted 18 hours ago Author Posted 18 hours ago i ended up playing my archery/trick arrow defender we were on excelsior and my toon is "Acid Arrow". Debuffing with flash arrow and acid arrow let them not get hit and hit so it was a pretty good fit. i joined their group and went down to their level. they had 2 scrappers, a corrupter, a controller, and myself. Think it was a success and they will likely continue to play we may meet up once a week for a regular run playing with discord server. i also play paper and pencil every 2 weeks over at one of their houses on saturdays so nerds we are. These people are all old, im in my 50s and im the youngest. ^^ 5

I say, however, after an RPG (yeah, that's what we used to call RPGs before there were computerized RPGs) friend had stopped about the 30th purse snatching on the way to a mission in Atlas, I had to say to them "I know that there is a bunch of street crimes going on, but we have bigger problems we have to deal with". And, bless'em, they felt really bad to have to not stop a purse snatching to head directly to the door mission. Let them enjoy the experience. And for the love of THE CITY, don't power-level them or make them door-sit to 50. An empathy defender is always a great one to empower your team and let them do all the heavy lifting. 1 If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore. (It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications) Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case. But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

It's the needs to tab-target and learn the power/enh/IO/Incarnate systems that may be a bit more demanding. If they're PC gamers, it can depend on what game(s) they're familiar with. ESO, for example, is very aggressively built for console players despite having been ported to the PC, with your character potentially having dozens of abilities, but being limited to six at a time with a "front bar/back bar" swap mechanism that is clearly based around the limited number of buttons on a console controller. Having direct access to thirty ability slots and indirect access to many more via binds, popmenus, and bar swaps may be initially confusing, although they'll acclimate quickly. 1
Doomguide2005 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Pretty much any/any should work, it's your presence answering questions and provide direction as needed that is most important. Had one friend when we were all new who ended up getting the contaminated badge because he spent an hour or so just whacking foes because he had no idea till he used his phone a friend how to leave the tutorial. Those wondrous sometimes silly and awesome moments will not happen again.
