Ski Run badges

it is the season!

 

i do not have all these badges on any of my characters.  i think 4/6 is my best.

 

folks, how is it done?  not just for me, but i see a lot pf new people (pugs, oh, da pugs...) and we need your expert advice!

I vaguely remember Kinetics being involved... I think both for speed boost and increase density. Been a while though. 

 

Either that or well timed teleport chains.

Yeah, best I've ever done is Silver unbuffed. Sometimes a Kinetics person will be stationed up there giving out free boosts, which is nice.

I just use sprint and combat jumping and can pick them all up.  I find the bobsled easier than the ski hill, which sometimes takes me a couple runs to get the flag position.  For bobsled, take the left each time.

I remember this from getting all 6 Badges pre-Shutdown.  The lower sloop Bronze, Silver, and Gold, you can usually get in a few runs.  To get them all on the high ski sloop, especially the Gold, it helps to have a Kinetics Toon at the Top giving out Speed Boost.  Which is why I have a Kinetics Toon on my 2nd account.

Sprint and CJ is enough to get the gold medal on both slopes. A running start can help but isn’t necessary.

I find speed boost, super speed or other similar powers to be too fast to control on the slopes.

Increased Density from the Kinetics powerset gives you the ability to better control your inertia like Combat Jumping. I'm not twitchy enough to get these badges on my toons but I know the physics behind how to get them.

IIRC you can fly thru the course, and with Fly + Hover (or CJ) + Afterburner it's quite easy.

Anecdotally, I struggled with this at first. A kin buff would just send me completely off the slope on the turns. Eventually, when the game was shut down, Paragon Chat had the ski chalet open all the time and I practiced quite a bit. It took me a while but now, if I'm level 35 or so, with current IOs, making Gold on both slopes is doable solo, with no help from outside buffs. 

I think Ninja run could be a substitute for CJ if you didn't have it. And, well, tp self could also work, provided you were good at it.

okay fly worked!  

 

i used Fly and Evasive Maneuvers with Swift, Fly,and EV  all slotted with 3 SO fly each.  I actually had to wait for the slow bobsled badge before crossing finish.  For the fast boblsed I had to hit Afterburner.  As mentioned before, always go left on Bobsled runs.  

 

First time I got all these 6 badges on a character!  Happy Holidays

Looks like me after thinking I had learned enough on the bunny hill. Cursed 🤬 the whole way down the mountain as 1 ski went all the way down to the lodge. 🤣😂.

Well, I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years.  I'm no dummy.

I tried people's suggestions.  I'm sure it was everything or nearly everything presented here.

 

Everything was too clunky.  Because *I* was too clunky.  I needed a repeatable system.  Something I could practice often with and on demand.

 

I created a second build.

I virtually ignored the other powers, simply treating *everything* as filler...

...except!  Hover, Fly and Evasive Maneuvers.  I started at 4th level and had them all six slotted a few levels later.  The rest I just clicked in order to click "next" until I was out.  I ended

up using only two of the slots in each power because I was impatient to try it.  It was probably two Fly IOs apiece.  Then I simply practiced.  I learned the route.  I found the corners I could cut.  I found the places Fly could quickly and easily navigate around instead of through.  Etc.  I managed to get Gold where needed after a suitable amount of practice.  The speed and control I had with those three powers was...  Glorious!  Yay!  The build is still there and I only returned to it to scavage the IOs.
