  1. Eh. I keep seeing this claim. Yet, if I understand it, Homecoming asserts that they were preparing to roll out the code at around the time the news broke. Which to believe? Well, after the news broke/was leaked, Homecoming almost immediately rolled out public servers and a vast volunteer effort with a server (almost immediately becoming multiple servers), forums, discord, in-game GMs, and (let's not forget) cold hard cash that would only later be replaced by donations (always a risky expenditure). Having worked on volunteer internet efforts before, I have to say that the speed, size, and well-thought-out comprehensive deployment of the (all-volunteer!) Homecoming effort would be completely implausible as a panicked response to the leak. It's patently obvious to anyone who's ever done any serious volunteer effort that this MUST have been in the works before the leak. That said -- that's a moment's examination would lead any thoughtful person to reject the claim that HC never intended to release -- we are left to wonder why this narrative is constantly being pushed, and by whom. Do the the people asserting this claim think we are easily fooled?
  2. Pedantic nitpick: you can't softcap Resistance. Resistance has a hard cap. Defense does too, actually, but it's so high it literally doesn't affect combat and it would be prohibitively difficult to approach it (with, of course, no corresponding advantage to doing so). So people use the term "soft cap" for Defense, but it's not really applicable to discussions of other types of defensive powers.
  3. And, as is the case in all conversations about difficulty/steamrolling/AT balance/relevance of anything other than spike damage, accompanying reduction of gigantic Incarnate AoEs would help.
  4. Glad you found them. That said, 18 purples? Yow.
  5. Here's another way to identify your main: when you log in, see a group of your friends already teamed, and join them, and someone suggests that for the difficult mission they have in mind, you should switch -- but they don't suggest a name or powerset. Instead, they just say, "Get him" (or "Get her.")
  6. I have the graphics "screen/UI resolution" set to 1920x1080 (desktop). Periodically, it reverts to "windowed" mode, and then always displays the Windows 10 taskbar at the bottom of the screen while in-game. I cannot select UI elements down there, I get taskbar stuff. Fix is easy -- reset to 1920x1080 (desktop). But why does it revert from that setting to Windowed, and how can I prevent that behavior?
  7. I wonder if that rule extends to deceased people. On live I ran Abraham Lincoln for a long time without any issues. Clearly there's no threat that anyone would believe this is the real Stan Lee unless they're using a Ouija board for a keyboard.
  8. Maybe...I personally am encouraged to hear people talk about next year in COH. 🙂
  9. Needs Healing Arrow, dammit. Humbly suggest "Transfix."
  10. Using Firefox on Android (Samsung Galaxy S8). When I click on "reply" nothing happens, no box to type into, no virtual keyboard. I believe it has worked at least sporadically in the past, but can't be sure. This happens regularly now. Any ideas? I can post to all sorts of other messageboards and forums, not tyhis one.
  11. One of the new Blaster sustains (I forget which, maybe in Tactical Arrow?) also increases +Per which offsets blinding.
  12. Back on Live I had a Shield/BattleAxe Tanker who was thematically a lot of fun, if not the fastest-killing guy around.
  13. Back in the day I used to spend the time to pile up the trip mines. Ideally I would leave several in one spot, a few more in another spot, and one "safety mine" where I planned to stand (to finish off or knock back anyone who closed to melee range). The mini-game behind having TWO piles of trip mines was to try and blow one or more bad guys from the first pile ONTO the second pile. When it happened it was endlessly hilarious. A friend, also with Trip Mines, would join me and we mostly played with mines and only used blasts for stragglers. Two Blasters, properly slotted, can put out a lot of trip Mines. I feel an alt coming on.
  14. We know it's you. Your secret identity is an open secret.
  15. Not a fan of this change. What is the point of accuracy and to-hit at all if you recode to reduce misses? We already mostly hit 95% of the time. What about all those buffers and debuffers this will put out of a job? The game isn't ALL about Brutes farming. That said, I think the proposed solution is missing the point. Increasing the to-hit cap for "the next 2 attacks" and the like runs the risk that your damage aura tick will use up the effect and then your big hitter will miss. I submit that people are FAR more bothered when their big hitters and long-cooldown powers miss than they are by tier 1, pool power, rain-type patch, or damage aura misses. So IF one were to address this, which I don't really support, it would make more sense to me to code it so that longer cooldown powers have higher chance to hit. Assuming that's technically possible.
  16. Same with Dual Blades, the character trails both arms.
  17. Yeah, I played Secret World for a while, mostly in the tanker role. All the dungeons (equivalent to trials here) had unique mechanics like those described above. "when the boss sends a wave of slime down the right side of the bridge, run left, and vice versa, several times. Then there's a subtle cue the big wave is coming and you need to run back and hop over the fallen column. Then run forward again..." My "tank" was reduced to running around like a cockroach when the kitchen lights come on. One mistake and you die, sometimes resetting the entire dungeon. For some reason some game designers think this kind of precise choreography adds "variety" to a game or something. Note that only by hundreds of deaths could you figure out the rules for each dungeon on your onw; naturally we just read what others had figured out and went through the motions. On the topic of COH tanking...recently got my Inv/SS Tanker to 22 and decent IOs and formed a few PUGs. One went fine, but on another night I managed to pull enough aggro that the team went down and me with it. I suggested to the team we'd try corner pulling, which worked. But after several successful small pulls I began to increase the size of the crowds I'd aggro until we started to have trouble again. Eventually we were able to stop corner pulling and go back to bum-rushing mobs, relying on my newfound estimation of the appropriate fight size for THIS particular PUG. Sometimes you have to be flexible and find what works.
  18. Dons tinfoil hat Isn't Leandro Brazilian? Maybe this is an Easter egg he put into Homecoming? d'oh! ninjaed
  19. Currently experimenting with Ice/Time. Arctic Air has the same PBAoE radius as Time's Juncture. Together they cost a bucket of endurance to run, but they slow everything to the slow cap, confuse a lot of foes, apply significant -to hit, and reduce damage. More importantly, Arctic Air has a flee effect -- combined with the confuses, enemies spend a LOT of time running back and forth...veeery slowly...while your team pounds on them. Ice Slick means you can mitigate the alpha and get into the mass of enemies long enough for the confuse to kick in. Note that a minor complaint about confuses is that you get "less xp" because the foes damage each other (disclaimer: I know that clear speed improves enough to more than offset this, and confuses are good). But Time's Juncture makes them miss a lot and do less damage when they hit. Net effect is they are "mezzed" and ineffective at hurting you and your team for the same amount of time as a normal confuse would cause, but they are worth slightly more exp since they're killing each other much more slowly. It's been working well since around level 8, although the end cost is prohibitive until SOs/IOs. I needed a team to actually do the killing. as foes get more dangerous, I think I will take a little bit of stealth (maybe just an IO) for additional safety as I approach spawns to snare them in my dual auras.
  20. I did recently see a post on some website where someone more-or-less bragged about making his Tankers with only the first two attacks because he was focused more on holding aggro for his team. Can't find it now, might have been deleted.
  21. Diablo 3 has a meta where one player maxes out durability and some team buffs (rather small buffs by COH standards). They call the various specs "ZDPS" meaning "zero damage per second." It's not that the ZDPS builds do NO damage...it's that D3's weird item set meta means a properly-geared dps gets mind-boggling multipliers, and might do 8500 times* more damage that someone with an incomplete item set. So it's comparatively "zero" dps. * I'm being conservative. One set multiplier does something like 40,000 times more damage AND there's auxiliary gear you can use to multiply THAT. D3 combat spam can show damage numbers in the trillions.
  22. Straight up Invulnerability or Granite might give you a very different feel from Fire, being the pinnacles of toughness.
  23. Debating whether to take Blackstar, the capstone Dark Blast nuke, on my Storm/Dark Defender. I intend to team but also I find myself soloing quite a lot. The usability of the power may also be an issue -- might be too dangerous to enter large crowds to use it optimally. Interested in generalizations about Defender nukes across the AT as well as any specific opinions for Storm/Dark.
