Things you enjoy that other people seem to not enjoy
DoctorDitko replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in General Discussion
Let me know if you get a group together to go after GM Impervium! I'll even trade servers for that! IIRC, Impervium once stomped on me as a giant version of my own character! Wasn't my namesake, but that kind of thing leaves an impression is hard to forget! -

Oh, so much this! Also love fighting Carnies, Malta, Rularuu... Basically all the mobs the folks who say "This game's too easy!" run from. Yeah, it's easy if you only play the easy parts, ya doof! (Which is why you'll never find me running Council Radios in PI!) -
Lol! Almost every character of mine except Ditko is a refugee from PNP Champions! Great game that cried out for a computerized version, then was betrayed by what it got!

Is this game too solved to be fun? :(
DoctorDitko replied to pawstruck's topic in General Discussion
On Torch, I have seen crazy people who run things like a "World's Slowest ITF." The one I went on was a hell of a lot of fun! The XP is excellent, and there is time for shocking things like -- banter with your teammates! Give it a try before you give up on high-end content! Edited to add: Darkaiser has an excellent point: Lead the team you want to be on! -
I'm altophilic, but my main main is still my namesake, Doctor Ditko: Once a powerful and arrogant magician, he overreached himself and suffered a sorcerous backlash that left him unable to access the higher magics. In despair and wandering, he was taken in by a kindly relativistic physicist who taught him the ways of his field. Now, having achieved his own advanced degree, he uses his knowledge of both science and sorcery to make the world a better place. (Affectionate parody dedicated with love to Steve and Stan, who made MY world a better place.) First Appearance: Classic Issue 6 (2007-10-31) NB: Not a medical doctor. Do not take medical advice from Doctor Ditko.

Why should you be different from everyone else on yon Internet?

I keep thinking the IRL pretty girl who runs up and hugs me is a skeleton with meat all over it. Is that worse?

What's the most fun task/strike force?
DoctorDitko replied to PresidentDSG's topic in General Discussion
Really? Those two giant 'under construction" guys the Nazis are building? -
It's a great way to turn a Doctor Q TF from a day-long grind into a 2-hour funfest. When hunting GMs, it can bring everyone to the spawn point when it happens. Halloween event, the whole ToT league can bounce from gate to gate, with side trips to hunt GMs. Hami raids, when a Golden Dawn happens, you can get everybody out of the pool in seconds. That sort of stuff.

I wish there was *some* benefit to playing in SG mode, but apart from storage, etc. as mentioned above, having a Rez point right next to an insp chest and a buff station (to help me avoid dying the same way twice) have been invaluable to me! (And then if you leave via the base entrance, you often zone in at the mish door. Priceless!) I do wish there was a way to make certain things usable by PUG members and such.

Absolutely agree that suppressed powers shouldn't be costing me END. Not qualified to comment on the rest of the discussion!

If I'm playing my 50s, it's usually because someone wants help with a cool TF or story arc, and I have the perfect specialist for the job. I don't build so that Incarnate powers "fix" my build, so exemplaring holds little fear (and I don't hate having a few extra powers and inspiration slots when exemplared). The only Incarnate power I actually grind for is Destiny's "teleport everyone you've ever met, plus their friends and relations" power (with a 2 minute recharge)! Love that thing!

Thought experiment (AoE buffs/debuffs/controls/damage)
DoctorDitko replied to Luminara's topic in General Discussion
This seems eminently reasonable, and reflects reality -- there are only so many bullets in a spray, and if your buddy takes one, that's one fewer for you. * But I don't think it would add fun to the game. * Unless you're fighting Deadpool, mister "I only have 12 bullets, so you're gonna hafta share!" -
I think I like the idea, but of course the numbers will matter. Controllers might be more welcome on teams, but might find it tougher to solo. I'd say it's worth dropping in the suggestion box to see if the Devs are interested.

Music instruments as backpacks?
DoctorDitko replied to DevonXavier2006's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Ideally, I'd like to see alternate power animations that include instruments. But backpacks would be a great start! (And doubtless easier to implement.) ;thumbsup -
The icon for Mighty Jump Takeoff, even while greyed out, has a circling orbital thingy as if it were an active toggle.

Since parody and homage depend on the doctrine of "Fair Use," they really can't be codified. Fair Use itself cannot be codified. It's literally an "I'll know it when I see it" standard in copyright law. The EFF has an introduction to the subject. The Wikipedia article goes into more detail. DMCA takedowns, which are rampant on Youtube, are often wielded without the due diligence specified in the law, which requires claimants to carefully consider the Fair Use exemption before filing. Unfortunately, the default seems to be to take the video down, and rely on the creator to defend it before it can be restored. If some IP owner files against Homecoming, we might be in a similar situation. Unlikely, yes, but that's why they have to be careful (not to mention the walking-on-eggshells complication of being an unauthorized server). So, we should probably be more vigilant than we were on Live, since NCsoft's reaction to a DMCA takedown would be to destroy the offending server. The number of eyes on us is undoubtedly fewer, fortunately. But I'm working on a new profile pic, just in case. Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer. I am not a doctor. I am not a cheese sandwich.

I have a Doctor Ditko on every server, including Brainstorm. I mainly play on Torchbearer, though, so many of them are mid-teens, mainly used for base tours and such. I flatter myself that I might have a microversal "brand" in the world of CoH, and I would hate it if someone grabbed the name on another server and behaved in a way that might be described by a term the profanity filter would flag.* (I like to make my own mistakes, thanks!) So, it would be great if there were a dispensation for names that are: a) Across all servers or b) Related to the global name In the "I win the lottery and donate all to the Homecoming devs" department, how hard would it be to link in a public domain synonymicon?** Finally, I'd like to suggest that some small reward be granted for anyone who gives up a name. Not big enough to encourage players to camp names, but some token to acknowledge the sacrifice. How about a badge that reads "I used to be Dingleberry" or some such? Probably overthinking this, but... it's what I do. * Which, by the way, I keep active because it's more fun to call someone an "ectoparasitic feather-feeding louse" than an "#$%%^&". ** Synonym for Thesaurus. Ironically, there are not many of those!

issue 27 Issue 27, Page 4: General Feedback
DoctorDitko replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Noticed while trying to use the Freebies Menu and P2W vendor, I picked Nemesis Staff as my Prestige Attack, decided to change to Blackwand (Natural origin toon, so oshould work for either) I can't revoke the lollypop OR take Origin/Not Origin Blackwand. It tells me I'm revoking Nem staff, over and over, but nothing takes. Probably Beta-only, but thought it was worth mentioning Problem persists over client restart. (NB: I had grabbed all the other Prestige Attack Powers, if that's relevant.) -
Why are edits noted? I mean, who cares?
DoctorDitko replied to Diantane's topic in General Discussion
Oh, if I could type, I'd be so dangerous. So, seconding the typos. (I spell great, I just can't type.) In my case, I also have a thing where I post something, then remember my sources, then go back and add in links.* * And citations. And footnotes, which, BTW, rock! -
They'd have to be a Universalish set (a la Overwhelming Force) but I'd kill for an Erase Visual FX enhancement and a Mute Sound FX one. Maybe even a No Animation one, too. Null the Gull could offer to ignore both, for folks that want to see/hear everything. (So no unfairness to PVPers, or people with impaired senses.) Then I could finally port the Human Bystander from TT Champions to CoH. (Dressed as a civilian, he stands around on the periphery of battles and doesn't seem to do anything but root for his team.)
