Homecoming Code of Conduct Update - May 13th, 2021
Doc_Scorpion replied to Jimmy's topic in Announcements
<selects photographer's cap, places it on head at a jaunty angle> At least in the US (other countries are different! always check local laws!), it doesn't matter if someone in a public place with no expectation of privacy doesn't want to be photographed... Because US legal doctrine is that in that combination of circumstances they cannot object. Let 'em keep jumping in your frame, you can keep shooting without worrying about them (at least from a legal perspective). And pay attention to the two part test... The first gets complicated in public spaces on private property (such as a mall), and the second will seriously burn you, because places like bathrooms do produce an expectation of privacy. In the US, photographer's rights generally descend from the 1st Amendment (specifically freedom of the press) and are thus legally protected. There's some wrinkles at lower levels of government, but (very broadly and very simplified) if you can see it from a public space (commonly a public sidewalk is cited as the canonical example), you can freely snap away. <puts hat back on hook, slouches down, picks up second cup of coffee> Largely OT here... But as a photographer I wanted to make sure people understand the situation in the US. There's a lot of misunderstanding among the general public over when and what photographers can photograph. -
I can't speak for the OP, but I've done this when my schedule didn't match my time zone. I live in the Pacific (-8) time zone, so when I played UO in theory I should have played Baja, Napa, or one of the other West Coast (-8) servers. But I was busy in the evening and free in the late afternoon - so I played Lake Superior (-5) because it's peak hours matched when I was most likely playing.

Ratings select for popularity, always have, always will.

Having had several costumes be inspired by random costumes... I disagree. As you yourself say, they're inspirations, starting points. Not examples. Don't want a tail? Delete it. Don't like the aura? Delete it or change it.

That sounds almost like your firewall blocking the launcher from phoning home.

Marvel's "What If?" series
Doc_Scorpion replied to Glacier Peak's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
The writing was banal, except for the parts cut 'n pasted from movies... But I hope the amount of paste eaten by the writer didn't give them a stomachache. The animation was horrible. It looked like they rotoscoped a Pixar movie, right down to the stereotypical gestures and facial expressions, producing a weird horror that was neither 2D nor 3D. Whoever designed the characters should be shot and their body dumped in the nearest outhouse. And whoever directed the voice acting could really up their game by watching a round dozen low budget kung fu dubs from the mid 70's and paying careful attention. The only good part was the sweet relief of seeing the end credits roll and knowing the torture was over. It was an enormous let down... which is very depressing because I was a huge fan of What If? back in the day and I'm a huge fan of the MCU in general. I wanted to like it so very badly, but I just couldn't. -

Question about locations in storyline

Even easier to find is the truck immediately east of City Hall. -
Had a toon just play through his first story arc and got the "First Merit Reward" popup - only he'd already earned Merits via exploration badges. Seems to me this should be triggered by whatever means the toon earns their first merit - story arcs or accolade.

Increase the inf cap limit per toon
Doc_Scorpion replied to CU_Krow's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
While I have no doubt there's at least one person who does absolutely insane stuff like that... I seriously doubt there's a large enough pool of people doing so to justify monkeying deep in the code. My guess is that for the vast majority of the playerbase, the cap is more than sufficient. -
issue 27 Patch Notes for March 30th, 2021

Isn't that Olivia's job? -
If you had made any arguments in favor of it, that would be reasonable statement. You haven't. Given the vast amount of radio missions already being run (especially a high levels), what purpose is served by making them even more attractive to farm?
-
The first part of this statement is meaningless, it's only "true" because there are more "lower level" zones compared to only one or two "max level" zones. The second part is a completely groundless assumption. And no part of your response addresses the problem - excess inf flowing into the economy is not healthy for the economy.

Alternative attacks for masterminds...
Doc_Scorpion replied to biostem's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Agreed. It's a lovely idea, but balanced implementation is likely to an endless tarbaby. -
Hard no. Ya wanna farm, go to AE. (Plus we just got rid of the ability to create waterfalls of inf a few months back - and the game is better for it. We don't need the inflation that re-introducing that waterfall would create.)

Focused Feedback: Travel Power Updates (Build 2)
Doc_Scorpion replied to Arcanum's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
What about the increased horizontal travel speed? I mean, my main jumper has gone from 60mph to 90mph just by copying him over to Beta. (I.E. no changes to slotting or enhancements.) Double Jump, which takes up no tray space, is disadvantaged compared to powers that take up as many as three tray slots? I'm not seeing it that way. With a single power pick I can hit the flight ceiling everywhere but the Shadow Shard and stay airborne completely across many city zones... What's not to like? I wouldn't have minded a boost to base jump height, to reduce the times I need Double Jump, but that would just be a cherry on top. Many jumpers think of Super Jump as a vertical travel power too... I don't think the Dev team agrees or sees it that way. (But again, Double Jump to the flight ceiling, so vertical is covered with a slight cooldown. So, shrug.) -

Suggestion: please deemphasize the low level arcs
Doc_Scorpion replied to ZaranBlack's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Some people (maybe most people) do - but not everyone. All of my solo toons work their way through low level content because its just not fun otherwise. Also, the very last thing we need to do with this game is to emphasize grinding and speed leveling.
