Set those titles! Show those badges!
AboveTheChemist replied to Heraclea's topic in General Discussion
This mirrors my thoughts on the subject. I always try to find a badge title that works well but I rather strongly dislike titles. -
What is going on with Thumb Tacks in Mercy?
AboveTheChemist replied to Wavicle's topic in Bug Reports
twospirited and I posted some examples of this issue over in the zone geometry errors thread in the last week or so. They noted the issues in Mercy Island, and I posted some examples of the same issue in Port Oakes. I did a little testing in each zone and found that about half of the randomly placed thumbtacks ended up with the nav indicator somewhere else. In each zone, the 'bugged' thumbtacks always pointed to one specific spot.- 1 reply

You can edit the code Jimmy posted to customize it to your liking. I've attached an edited version where the options are numbered sequentially and are activated by their respective number. All you need to do is go to your Homecoming install directory (for example, C:/Games/HC) and put the attached file in 'data\texts\English\menus' (assuming English is your language). If you don't have some or all of the folders in the 'data\texts\English\menus' directory chain you can create them yourself. The attached file goes in the 'menus' folder at the bottom of that directory chain. It will override the built-in version, and it loads when the game starts so if your game is currently running you'll need to exit completely out and restart. I haven't tested this in-game so I am not 100% sure it will work, but I feel confident that it will. If you need to make any further tweaks you can just open the file in a text editor and tweak it to suit. FastTravel.mnu

As a follow up to my post above from Nov 10, I did some testing and found that there are many spots on the Mercy Island map where a thumbtack can be placed and the indicator will point to the same location in twospirited's original screenshot. I estimate that about half of the thumbtacks I placed randomly on the Mercy Island map pointed to this spot. I noticed similar behavior in Port Oakes but not in any of the other Rogue Isles zones I checked, so I must have been in Port Oakes when I noticed the issue a week or so ago. About half of the random thumbtacks I placed in Port Oakes direct me to the abandoned lab door in the Dockside neighborhood (screenshot below).

Mayhem / Safeguard missions via Ouroboros
AboveTheChemist replied to Zepp's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
There are two badges you can get (Villain Disruptor for heroes, and Hero Slayer for villains) that each unlock a contact on their respective side. That contact will give out unlimited Safeguard / Mayhem missions. The links I posted have information on the most efficient means to earn the badges, as well as links to those respective contacts. Or, if you like, I am happy to meet up sometime, grab the missions, and let you pop in to get the badges. -
How to determine recipe drop pool
AboveTheChemist replied to AboveTheChemist's topic in Unofficial Homecoming Wiki's Forum
I've added this info to the wiki now, thanks again Faultline! If I could trouble you for one more bit of info, do you mind checking the drop pools for Unbreakable Guard (Damage Resistance), Reactive Defenses (Defense), and Preventive Medicine (Healing)? Those three sets came in with Issue 24 (along with Annihilation) and as of now they all show up as 'Set' (Pool A) drops. I suspect some members of those sets might be be from the other pools. Or, if that info is viewable in the piggs via a pigg viewer, I am happy to look it up myself if you can just point me to the right place to look. I've checked a few places but haven't had any luck so far. Thanks again! Edit: Slight clarification, Preventative Medicine does show different drop pools on the main enhancement sets page but I suspect that it was probably just an edited copy of Numina's Convalescence. I don't necessarily know that it is wrong, but I suspect that it is, and the individual enhancements within Preventative Medicine all show as Pool A on their respective pages. -
I was able to duplicate this exact behavior last night. I noticed similar behavior a week or so ago. I don't recall which zone I was in exactly, but I think I was in the Rogue Isles hunting Halloween event giant monsters. Using the wiki maps of the GM spawn points (viewed offline, not in-game), I was placing thumbtacks on the in-game map on the approximate GM spawn point. I noticed in a few occasions that the distance indicator was in a different location from the thumbtack in a similar manner to the bug twospirited reported. I will try to replicate the behavior tonight.

If you do find the right spot and/or time of day for good screenshots, don't forget that you can use demo recording/editing to easily replicate the screenshots and even add multiple characters to one screenshot. There is some info in the thread below.

Just to clarify, the Pocket D VIP Gold Club Member badge does exist on Homecoming. It was repurposed from the badge you mentioned to the badge that is granted for spending 1 hour in Pocket D. Earning this badge grants the Pocket D VIP Pass teleportation power (and as far as I know it also makes that power free in the P2W vendor).

Is that possible? I would have thought the 1-week lockout would apply to both versions but I have not tried it. If the lockout isn't mutual then that is a good idea. I've played through the redside version many times but despite the differences between the hero and villain versions being only minor, I find aspects of the villain version fairly annoying.

How to determine recipe drop pool
AboveTheChemist replied to AboveTheChemist's topic in Unofficial Homecoming Wiki's Forum
Fantastic, thanks so much for the info! I'll take a look at the drop pools and see if I can find the correlation to the notation you provided. My hunch is that "SA" corresponds to pool B (mission drops) and "TF" corresponds to pool C & D (random rare recipe rolls). -
I just took a character that had no progress on that badge, clicked each plaque (in no particular order), and was awarded the badge. I've attached spoilered screenshots of each one. My guess is that maybe one of the plaques you are clicking isn't the right one. If you are sure that you have clicked each of the plaques below, though, then I'm at a loss to explain it.

Once a week I run five different characters through the first chapter of the Who Will Die signature story arc. It takes a total of about 45 mins to an hour (about 10 mins per character) depending on how distracted I am, and it nets me 100 merits, which is enough to meet my needs. If you need more than that, you'll need more characters, since it's a once-a-week-per-character type reward. I have also heard that the Freakshow War arc is a good one, netting 55 merits in about an hour's time, but I've not personally farmed that one.

I dug around in the piggs a bit, and it looks like the powersets.bin file has the power names that would probably work with the PowerReady parameter. It's not a neat list, and it's just a guess that they would work, but that's the best I could find. EDIT: Actually if you look in Bopper's spreadsheet of power data, the 'Full Name' column has the full names for all the player powers. If you want temp powers and such you'll probably need to check the powersets.bin file.

The easiest couple of things to check would be to make sure you don't already have the badge (sounds silly but it happens), and to double check the wiki page for the Expert badge to make sure you hit all the correct plaques. Other than that, I've heard that it is best to get your character as close as possible to the plaque when clicking on it. I don't know if this was related to an actual issue or just a rumor, but it's something I've always done. That badge is just four plaques in three zones so revisiting the plaques shouldn't take too much effort.

Alphabetic Badge List PopMenu
AboveTheChemist replied to Janrith's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
There is not as far as I am aware, at least not from the HC client itself. It is theoretically possible if you export your earned badges to a log file and then use a third-party program to parse the log and generate a list of missing badges. -
Focused Feedback: Stance Selection
AboveTheChemist replied to Jimmy's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
I absolutely love the new athletic run option, thank you so much for adding that. I was tinkering with revoking Beast Run and buying Athletic Run, and vice versa, and it all seemed to work fine but I did get a P-string when I revoked Athletic Run (see screenshot). -
To expand on this a tad, as I understand it you could take the code Jimmy posted in that link, edit it, and put it in the right folder within the data folder (e.g. data\texts\English\Menus) and as long as the menu name is the same, it would replace the built-in fast travel menu. I know I've done similar with the 'freebies' menu on Beta, but I think it would work in this case too.
-
That usage looks correct to me for making a macro that launches that popmenu. The HC launcher does copy the contents of the data folder from the Tequila install to the new install, so you'll just have to find the new install and drill down into the data folder there to find and edit that menu.
-
The popmenu command does not allow a path to be specified. The usage in your quote throws an error as seen below. The proper usage is: /popmenu menuname If I recall, popmenus are loaded from within the data directory when the client starts, so if a menu isn't in the <COH_INSTALL>\data\texts\<LANGUAGE>\Menus directory at client start, then it won't get loaded, and can't be loaded from another directory after the client starts. I haven't tested that, though. To the OP's issue, the data folder in my new HC Launcher install is in the same relative position as it was in the Tequila install, which is the top level of the install directory. It's probably just going to be a matter of tracking down where the new launcher built the new install directory. If I remember from when I ran the new launcher, it wanted to put the new install in a folder called 'HC' in the same directory where my Tequila install was located. For instance, my Tequila install was C:\Games\CoH, and I'm pretty sure the new launcher defaulted the install to C:\Games\HC, which is what I used. If you specified a location other than the default, then you'll have to go hunt it down.

I have not tested it myself, but I have read that it will not work. The only keys that can be part of valid combinations like this are SHIFT, CTRL, and ALT, I think. I'll try to dig up the reference I read that from and update this post with it. Edit: I am not sure if any of these is the exact place I read it but it is mentioned on the HC wiki /bind page, the HC wiki key names page, and in Shenanigunner's CoH technical guide (page 10).

Map thumbtacks via slash command
AboveTheChemist replied to AboveTheChemist's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Thanks for the input! I was super jumping around Skyway the other night hunting Halloween GMs and occasionally left-clicking thumbtacks to mark the next spot to check, and I noticed similar behavior with the z coordinates. -
As far as I know, the only way to place a thumbtack on the map is by left clicking, which isn't always accurate. I'd like to suggest (assuming it is feasible) a supplemental means of placing a thumbtack via a slash command. I envision something like this: /thumbtack X Z Y This would create a thumbtack at the X Z Y coordinates listed, to include the thumbtack icon on the map, the navigational beacon in the game world, and the navigational icon in the compass (which is consistent with current behavior when left-clicking a thumbtack on the map). Issuing the command a second time would remove the prior thumbtack and place a new thumbtack. Or, the command: /thumbtack 0 could be used to remove the existing thumbtack. The command also might be made shorter, such as /ttack or just /tack. The X Z Y format is the same format that the system uses to report coordinates via the /loc command, so coordinates could be copied from /loc output and pasted into /thumbtack input as a means of quickly communicating locations between players in real time via chat. Another potential use of this command is a set of rolling keybinds that could be used, for example, as a self-guided tour of exploration badges in a zone. In terms of fitting into the game, thumbtacks already exist, this is just allows them to be placed via different means and with greater accuracy. GPS exists in the game world (I've seen it mentioned in mission dialogue), and I see this as an in-game analogue of entering an address or lon/lat coordinates into a GPS device and then navigating to that exact destination. I occasionally see requests for a continuously updated display of current coordinates as a navigational aid. I usually suggest the /showfps 3 command in those threads, but I think this /thumbtack command might address that need. Thanks for reading!
