questions Rogue playthrough - Contacts and Patrons
Six-Six replied to tanglin's topic in General Discussion
You for Sgt. Schorr (https://archive.paragonwiki.com/wiki/Sgt._Schorr). One of my faves. if you pick the right choices (give the buggers part of your loot) you get 3 purdy sturdy summons. -
I'm almost at 50... wait, were we talking about IQ or age?

I have two claws toons. On my Dominator, it does feel like she could use more damage... but then again all my dominators' attacks are quite lacking. I suppose that's because they're secondary powers (I have no problem with their primary control powers). On my brute, however, I feel it's fine. Numbers-wise, I don't think it measures up to my Energy Melee brute, but nor does it lag far behind. I think the claw's combo-mechanic makes up for it, so an attack chain to maximise that mechanic worked for me. He still cuts down the same amount and notoriety of mobs as my other Brutes and Scrappers. Between you an me, the quietness of the claws maybe why it doesn't feel as strong. It doesn't have the oomph of other melee attacks. It was the case with my Katana scrapper. the vanilla blade sound felt weaker, but your lightsaber made her attacks feel like they're hitting harder. PS. My Brute claws is a guy with a lion head and your Lion Roar Taunt is awesome, though 😃

I just got my first dom to 50 (Yay me!). Fire/Fire/Fire. I must admit, he was one of my more expensive builds, not so much the quality of the IOs, but the respecs and switching IOs (I don't have MIDs, so it's a guess and check for me--which is part of the fun). I love how Fire animates, but I struggled with this one because there were powers that I wanted but couldn't afford end-wise. Couldn't seem to get end consumption under control. He works now, but there are powers I wish I could have taken. Learning from him, I jumped right into my Ice/Ice. She's doing better end-wise, but damaging attacks are a little short atm (only level 20). Very enjoyable with when I duo with a friend. Solo is a bit of a struggle at +1x4. They're held in place and can't attack me, but it takes so long for me to kill them. hopefully that will change when more slots come. I still have Earth/Earth, Mind/Savage (the one I mentioned earlier), Gravity/Energy, and Dark/Martial waiting for some play time. 😃 Electric/, Plant/, /Psi, /Rad, /Thorns I don't have concepts for... yet.

Oh don't get me wrong, I LOVE the content... I think the content is tremendously wealthy... so much so that I don't take it all in at once. On my very first toon (I only started playing when HC came out early last year), I tried getting ALL the contacts I can and doing all of their missions. I was disappointed when I out-levelled them. On my next toon, I took the advise to turn XP off so I don't out-level certain contacts. Then toon number 3 onwards, each toon forged his/her unique story through the choice of contacts the toon made along the way. Some toons only did story arcs, my vigilante only did radio missions, others only street-swept, others exclusively team, do Strike Forces and so on... depending on their character. While most will do a combination of activities, some would not. Is it harder to level? Yes. but that's the toon's story, and he has to stick with it. I also tried door sitting, which to me translates hanging out with one or two friends and shooting the breeze in chat while a brute does his thing around the map--also fun and I have 1 toon who's never seen the outside of AE building to show for it. I've tried user-generated story arcs in the AE as well. Other times, I would go in to AE with a "mentor" to teach me how a certain AT/power set should be. Just last week, a friend sent a tell and wanted to chat while he was farming. I obliged and when I stepped out, I was 12 levels above what I bargained for. Incidentally, I saw a "beginner's guide to fire farming" here in the forums, so I might give that a try and be the one inviting people to door sit while brute does his/her thing. But more often than not I still create a toon, skip galaxy/breakout (or not, depends), go to Kuzmin and seek my fortune as the Destined One from there. I'm now on my 24th toon on her way to 50. Meanwhile, I still play my spiders with a dozen T4s to choose from as the rest of my 50s wait in line to earn all their T4 incarnates. Some of my 50s will never be played again because after "grinding" them to Ramiel, I've learned that I didn't like the AT or power set combination or possibly the character I made for it. At the same time, I have still yet to try countless other combinations as well as ATs as soon as I concoct a concept for them. No, it isn't a grind to me. It's my dream MMO and I'm loving every single waking hour I can spend in it.

What??? The King is dead??? Long Live the King! I think the beauty of CoH is that it evolved from Old School. I've played a bunch of other MMOs where the grind was king. You need materials to craft new armour? go grind. unlock new contacts, new quests? go grind. more xp for the next area or new skills? go grind. Grinding has always been a part of MMOs, and in most of them, it was just that--a necessary but utterly repetitive and boring GRIND! What CoH did is not remove the grind, but give you several choices on how you can. You can do the story arcs, paper/radio missions, task forces, AE farms, AE alternative story arc content (some of which are purdy dang good, too), or any combination of them. Whatever you're doing you're still technically grinding, but in a manner YOU deem fun. So whatever floats your goat, that is King. 😃

None of my armoured ATs had any problems with Tsoo. I've only started having a hard time with them when I started playing Blasters, Corrs, and Doms. On my Brutes, Scrappers, Sents and SoAs, I found them easy, but annoying in the sense that they run away all the time.

I've never thought of them as an ally-protection-plan-B. 😃 I will now.

Weekly Redside Radiation Roulette. (Sept 4th start)
Six-Six replied to Li_Sensei's topic in Reunion (EU)
Wow. an organised redside run 😃 I would love to join with my spanking new Rad/Regen Brute. The only thing holding me back is the time. I'm in Asia and UK 1930 is around 4:30am for me. I'm usually up, but my mental capacity at such time is usually diminished. In any case, I'll shoot you a tell when I can. My global is @Six-Six. hope to catch you in-game. -
You see the small palm tree icon in the upper left? click that and "rescan" option should appear. this forces a new line of communication from your computer to the mirror and usually fixes stalled scanning.

I have to admit. After a good night's sleep, my comment does come off rather scathing. I feel the same way about Stalker Hide. The reason I don't play stalkers so much regardless of how powerful or attractive the AT may be is because I can't see my character when I play. For every other AT, I can remedy it, and I do. But while I apologise for the snide manner or tone, I do not for the intent. the point I was trying to make is that developing new zones and power sets, and archetypes is beyond the user's power to achieve, but turning visuals off is not. It's simply clicking on a few toggles. It's like asking a Porsche or Jaguar engineer to please adjust your seat for you. You're right, it doesn't take much work, but it's also a little bit amount of work that you and I can do.
-
I don't think the AT or partner power matters as much as how you play it. I have: DP/SR Sent that has such a high recharge that she can deal two chains worth of damage in the time it takes a blaster to fire off one. DP/Dark Sent and DP/Poison Corr that didn't invest much in def/res because the to hit debuff takes care of it. DP/WP Sent that is a ranged tank as opposed to a ranged scrapper DP/MC Blaster that only took DP's ST attacks because he carries a revolver not a semi-automatic... who basically skeet-shoots enemies Pick one that fits your play style and rock the hell out of it!
-
Welcome to the Brood 😃 I hope I can help you with some of your queries. I would toss in a couple of more powers, namely Frag Grenade and Burst. The reason for this the more primary attack powers you have, the smoother your chain will be because you don't have to redraw your weapon. Having said that, you may find it better to use the primary powers in succession, and then the Patron powers or vice-versa. I'm not too familiar with Mako's, but with the Mu, my attack chain is Ball Lightning-Static Discharge-Mu-lightning and Heavy-Burst-Venom Nade-Frag-Burst-Single Shot. By the time I'm halfway through the second chain, the first is ready to fire again. It's quite hard to make the huntsman an AV killer, but he is an awesome support. So having single target attacks comes in handy in taking care of stragglers/survivors from the initial onslaught. Your AV killer is the bane. On my bane, I only have 5 attacks that hit really hard. the chain is Shatter-Bash-Pulverise-Crowd Control-Bash-Pulverise. I sneak in Shatter Armour whenever there's a gap. My bane can one-hit LTs at +3, so while the chain is really smooth, the hiccup is Jaunting to the next target. the mace feels slower, but it definitely hits harder. and with tough enough build (which is easy on a spider) I can take on two AVs simultaneously without fearing for my life. Depending on how you slotted your powers, Shatter will give you the biggest damage including the crit from being hidden, so I open with that. Alternatively, you can soften them up with Venom Nade then placate for a crit (not sure if that works in practise, though).

When you fire up Island rum, you'll get an error message with a button to install. Just click install and it will do almost everything for you. It will launch a terminal or two to start downloading Wine and whatever it needs by itself. The most you have to do is enter your mac's admin password in one of the terminal windows. This takes a while depending on your internet speed, but a lot faster than before. Once it has done it's thing, the Script Icon will bounce on your dock. Click that and the Install Done Pop up will appear. Just click exit. On Island Rum, you may get the Wine Mono Installer error window. It's just another component that will auto install. Same drill. Once that's done, the client shouldn't need to download everything, unless it's a fresh install of Island Rum. Most of the game assets are already on your computer, so it's basically a rescan to associate the correct paths to the right files. If you do end up downloading assets, and it stops, it's either a connection "hiccup" from your end or the mirror end. You can either quit Island Rum and start over, or if Rescan is available, do a rescan. It will count the files it already successfully downloaded and pick up where it was interrupted.

Sorry. Let me get this straight... You'd rather have a handful of volunteers who are already taking care of a buttload of details to tinker with god knows how many lines of code just so you don't have to click 4 or 5 toggle buttons? If you click P or open the Powers window, you'll find Walk (near sprint and power slide). Putting that in a tray and clicking it will turn off all of your toggles. All you have to do is toggle them back on before you go into combat. That's half the button clicking done for you.

I would like to report that the new Island Rum successfully ran (twice--one update and one fresh install) on my ancient machine running High Sierra (which is the latest it can go). I had 2 partitions each with its own start up disk, one with the game and one with work stuff. the assets downloaded a lot faster than I expected, too, less than an hour for a fresh install. No problems whatsoever, smooth sailing all the way. Thank you. 😃

I, too, like Caltrops (Tashibishi on other ATs) for the same reason most have listed above. I've also experimented with them, and while I don't have numbers, I believe some of the stats people list may be misleading, at least in actual game play. The damage numbers can go up, but it only works if the mob stay on them for the entire duration, which they don't. I've also tried single slotting Ragnarok +kd proc in it... it only affects one out of the entire mob for every activation. On other ATs, I've slotted them with the Sentinel ATO (It's the only Mastery power that takes ATOs, which is why I take it on Sents), the ATOs both proc very well, as I would see several +Absorb and +Opportunity in almost all who enter the AoE, but numbers-wise, the silver absorb bar as well as the opportunity bar wouldn't reflect it. If I have slots to spare, I just stick two slow IOs for the set bonus. otherwise it's just a single proc... just so the slot doesn't go to waste.

Another option is go redside 😃 kidding aside, I've found that a change of pace usually distracts level-metre-watchers. If you're enjoying the content, the level up dings will catch you off guard. While I haven't personally come across an AT that has had real problems soloing stuff (I've played quite a bit, but not all, and certainly not even close on being an expert at all). The small bit of wisdom that I have to offer is, don't be married to your build. Some toons have a diff build levelling up: some powers while awesome, drain too much end to be taken at earlier levels and have to wait until your fitness is ready for it. Some IOs can't be slotted until 17 or 22 or 27, plus you are in desperate need of slots at lower levels. So I have a no-build (no IOs) until about mid-20s. then I start putting in "helpful" IOs until I can start devoting the actual IOs that I want around 35. Another factor that helps me level up faster is upping the notoriety. I don't have the math, but +1x1 performs similar to +0x2 or x3. So your toon may not be able to handle more opponents, but he may be able to handle harder ones. The sweet spot for me is +2x4. Anything harder and I usually struggle solo, unless it's a really good AT/power set. Not all my toons can handle +2x4 even at 35 and above. but that notoriety can usually chalk me up a level every two or three door missions. oh, and if you have stealth, stealthing to finish the mission as fast as you can will give a bigger XP dump. Then you can go back and kill everything for even more XP... that and to leave no witnesses... because redside. TFs, SFs, general teaming is great fun. AE doorsitting isn't bad either. But with toon's that I really like, I prefer to solo quite a bit to understand the powers, find the groove of the attack chain, what works, what doesn't, and what not.

Solarverse's SFX Consolidated List of Mods
Six-Six replied to Solarverse's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
haha. wouldn't it be funny if the new SFX for end running out be something like "Oh Crap" 😃 Similarly, I was thinking of changing my female taunt/provoke from the "ha-hah" to "Hey boys, I'm naked... and I have pizza" 😃 -
Once you get the hang of the game, you can use the LFG tab for convenience, rather than joining teams. For example, if you want to go directly to the contact of a particular task/strike force... say Imperious... use the LFG tab to find the corresponding task force (Time's Arrow), click it, click the lock TF at the lower right, and join. It will teleport you right next to Imperious where you can then join a gathering group. It saves the trip through Midnighter's Club, Cimerora Cave, and the short distance from the cave to Imperious. 😃 It works with other TF/SF as long as you have them unlocked in your list.

I have the same toon concept... but on a sentinel. As such, he still took all of the powers since none of them really strike me as unnatural (even fistful and rain of arrows). I do have the same concept on a blaster (Archery/TA), but haven't the chance to level her up yet. I even went so far as not to give him set bonuses from IOs. As far as gimping is concerned, I have taken him out for runs, and he's not as weak as I thought he'd be. Sure he's not as sturdy or strong as he could be, but he can still hold his own... more so when part of a team--even an all archer team.

Once you fire up the client and it downloads what it needs, signing in should refresh your character list. It did so when I moved computers.
-
@Greycat Yes, yes you did. Sorry I missed it.
