Arachnos/Widow: More costume options
Turric replied to dragonhawk777's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
This has been a common suggestion for years. I will second it though. VEATS need some of their redraw mechanics smoothed out as well. -
Indom is having this issue as well. I have noticed it for about 3 months now. Even when the population is up in the middle of the afternoon, 150+ online, it is very difficult to get a full team for anything. I do a lot of PUG groups for radios, DA or task forces and it feels like half the players are very new to the game and do not understand how some things work. The other day there was an instance of someone advertising for Moonfire. A person asks what level and then says he is too high for that so he could not go. A chorus of people inform him that he would be lowered down to the appropriate level, but this person could not grasp why on Earth he would want to do that. And he was insulting about it when people tried to explain it to him. I almost felt like he might be trolling people but it seemed more like belligerent ignorance which I thought was pretty weird for this game.

Dual Blades - Invulnerability - Brute or Tank?
Turric replied to Psyonico's topic in General Discussion
Not quite what you're looking for, but worth mentioning: I have a DB / Willpower scrapper that is top notch and can tank +4x8 without issue because her defenses and several resists are capped. The problem, and one to consider for your brute / tank question, is the taunt. {I dont play my dark scrapper anymore because I have to chase mobs all over God's green earth and it annoys me to no end} The extra defense you mentioned will be negligible when fully twinked out and the trade off of damage is not worth it, IMO. So, I would vote brute over tank UNLESS you want this character to be the main focus of teams and content, like tanking Hami for raids and such, then tank is viable. If you do mix and match content, then brute. If you're doing solo content, then scrapper. The AOE on DB is so so, not horrible, but not great either. -
What's the story with the Shadow Shard, in-game?
Turric replied to Vanden's topic in General Discussion
Yes, I am aware of that, but it is not labeled as such on the map. And it is only by accident, if you do not have a mission in that portal, that you will figure that out. Old players will know that, but newer players will not. Or players with bad memories. The Portal Corp building, instead of having three separate buildings, should have had a tunnel that connected the basements of each building, or just one portal. And a range of NPC standing outside to illustrate how the technology works as well as mission contacts, blah blah. It is a pain the butt when you're running the Maria Jenkins or Tina Mac arc when you have to leave one portal, go upstairs and across the courtyard, go downstairs and in another portal, then do it all over again for the next mission. The layout is not very intuitive. For that matter, why is Van Gun on redside standing right in front of a portal, which you think will be how you get to missions, but oh no, you have to hike all over the Rogue Isles to find your mission doors. I always thought of him as the equivalent of Unai Kamen but apparently that is not really the case. Many of my gripes in this game (which is my favorite of all time) is the mission layout. Try running the Revenant Project arc and tell me that you don't get angry going back and forth, back and forth. -

Yes, exactly a different zone. That is my whole point. The story behind it is really poorly conceived. -
Fly power Costume Customization: Jet Packs
Turric replied to AngryJesusMan's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
FOR REAL THOUGH! Make it an option on the Fly power, or else just more jetpacks in the costume editor. This seems like a super simple fix. Technology and Science based characters need a better "reason" for the Fly power. The jetpacks in the P2W vendor as optional powers should have never been a thing. Or else it should be tied to a mission accolade and not available on P2W. It should have been simply a cosmetic option to Fly. -
He is talking about the fog of war on the map, the darker portion before you explore the map and it turns light. @Communistpenguin you are talking about the Reveal power. It is a good idea, but mostly unnecessary since that power only costs 10,000 influence. @gamingglen the perception idea is not bad. It would be good for PvP I think. Or else, you could make it some kind of Blindness defense for use against Arachnos. Or just make it a bland defense against debuff bonus. Very small of course.

What's the story with the Shadow Shard, in-game?
Turric replied to Vanden's topic in General Discussion
In my opinion, it was poorly conceptualized and poorly written. The Shadow Shard should have been attached to the Portal Corporation in Peregrine Isle, not the weird Tunnel transporters. Each island would have been connected to one or more others by small portals, like those in CoT caves, so that flying was not necessary (though doable) and each island had a purpose, however vague, to progress you on to the next. I would have treated it like a variation of some Cthulhu-esque idea. Secondly, it should have been illustrated to be an Astral Plane, a Shadow Plane, the Ethereal Plane (perhaps all three) or some such as that, with the Rularuu being natives, or at least invaders of that dimension, perhaps from their own. The Shard itself should not be thought of something that came to be, but something that is integral to the fabric of the multiverse, something that always was, but shared between all dimensions, thus a crossroads of sorts. That itself provides a bundle of stories by itself. Whomever rules the Shadow Shard has unlimited access to all the other dimensions. With that idea in mind, all the further gates created by the Portal Corp should actually be placed WITHIN the Shadow Shard, making it a staging point for forays into all the other dimensions (Council World, Werewolf World, Battle Maiden World, Black Swan World etc.). Oh, and Praetorian Earth World... As some kind of Astral / Ethereal Plane, it could have been a battleground for mystical / dimensional power seekers. There should have been strongholds or footholds for the Circle of Thorns, Arachnos, Nemesis, Council, Rikti, Banished Pantheon, Devoured Earth, Vanguard, Longbow and so forth. The images or replication mobs are just weird and silly. That should have been saved for some kind of Dream Dimension, which would have been separate and tied to Penelope Yin or Sister Psyche. Each separate zone of the Shard should have had their separate story line that explains what is going on there and why the zone exists in the game. Like the war in the Storm Palace. That looks amazing and very interesting. What is going on there? I would like to take part. I would have done something similar for Praetorian Earth also. It should have been tied to the Portal Corporation. I have never liked the Praetorian story and think it is clunky, but that is just my opinion. There are elements of it that pretty cool, but overall it bears too much importance upon the story of Paragon City and your heroes / villains. -

Caleb is the one GM I have never killed, and I think I've killed just about everything in the last 15 years. I never knew how to spawn him and never bothered to research it because I always forget. -
So I play on Indom. There has been a drop BUT during the day Posi runs are done quite often. I had thought of transferring also, but I decided against it. What I am seeing is a great deal of new players that do not fully understand the game, and thus may not join task forces, or even PI groups, because they do not understand their value. There are various PI groups during the day, but the same people keep revolving in and of the groups. Meanwhile there are 90 other people on the server. Some are PVP, but many are simply new and do not know anything outside of solo missions or begging for AE fire farms. Whenever I'm in a group, I scan the other players power sets, builds and badges. I am seeing a great deal of level 50s, 10+ veteran levels but no IO, no Incarnates and very badges asking novice questions. This tells me there are a lot of new players to CoH, perhaps temporary or transient. @SirBronco In the next couple days, hit me up if you want to run a TF or something. Turric is my global name.

So DaoC was pretty much the same thing. The charm was not necessarily permanent. Mobs had a chance to resist the charm or break it every few seconds. It was dependent on your Mind Control level (so if you're level 50 but only had 35 mind control because you invested your other points elsewhere, than 35 level mobs was your best). Functionally though, as long as you stayed to even con mobs, the charm wouldn't break. But when you tried to charm more than you could muster, they would do the exact same thing, beeline for you. DAOC was heavily based on Everquest.

I am in support of this idea as well. It is something that I've found mildly annoying. This way one can advertise for a level 54 Black Scorpion or Mako run the same way one can do Unai Kemen, Tiny Mac or Maria Jenkins. While some do join for a full run of the arc, I feel like it would be more friendly to the current state of the game for it to be more fluid. People join for a few missions and depart, just like radios, and then you recruit more.

Anyone know of anyone using this name? Last time I wanted a name I posted it here and got a speedy response and now have the name, so I am trying for #2

That thought has occurred to me as well. I even transferred a couple toons over to Excelsior but now I don't play them much anymore, preferring Imdom. I will say that over the last week there have been about 150 people on during the afternoon daylight hours, which is enough. Hami raids and MSR raids have decreased a slight bit, but are still doable, though some days are better than others.

If anyone has ever played Dark Age of Camelot, the Sorcerer there (Albion) had the ability to charm any enemy found in the world and use it as their pet. The mob con colors were the same as COH (blue, yellow, orange, red, purple etc). So, without bonuses a sorcerer could charm even con monsters (yellow) but with bonuses could do orange reliably and reds less reliably. Obviously some mobs were better pets than others, but it was a lot of fun seeing high level people drag giants and exotic monsters from the high end zones to Camelot and such. Anyway, I was thinking about this and the Mind Control set for controllers and doms. While I think there is value to every set not having a pet, I believe this would be an interesting option, even if it appeared lower than a T9 power. It is essentially like a permanent Confuse, but one that brings the target under your control just like any other pet. I think part of the mechanics are already established. However, PvP would be a no-go though, so that presents an issue. Or just make it work like Confuse anyway in PVP. So, essentially, at lower level you could nab your first Hellion or Skull to be a pet. At level 50, you have a plethora of options, like a Sapper, a Mek Man or a CoT Behemoth! Zoning would be an issue. Also, I think it should be relegated to minions or lieutenants maybe. That would present an obstacle also. Obviously not a fully thought out idea, but I thought it might bear some discussion from better minds than mine.

Well counter to what most other people have written, I think the Vibrate Molecules is a great idea! I am not against small changes to Hasten, or perhaps dividing it up over several powers. Or in some fashion removing its need to be on auto-cast. But I understand this is a delicate subject. My dominators especially would look really long and hard at any changes. What is the point of Super Speed and Speed of Sound? That was just poor planning there. (This post is about Speed, so I digress, the problem being Speed of Sound) To put this into perspective: I have 41 characters at 50, all with complete IO builds. I use Hasten in 29 of them. I have Flurry on exactly 0. I have Burnout on 1. I had Whirlwind on 1 but then respecced out because, while it was funny at first, it became annoying to me and really doesn't do anything very helpful.

New Electric Manipulation and other thoughts
Turric replied to Anubis_TD2's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I too am in favor of changing Sonic as its attack chain has poor animation synergy. One of my biggest annoyances with that set is that I will fire off power 1 and 2, but power 1 killed the target and so power 2 is wasted. Other blaster primaries do not have this delayed issue. Perhaps the sonic waves need to be sped up some. Or else, add more AOE. I would be on board with some Shockwave perhaps being a PBAOE instead of a cone. Perhaps like a second mini nuke. AND GIVE US SOME ALTERNATE AUDIO and ANIMATIONS for sonic!!! At least the Wailer sounds. The new sonic manipulation has cool sounds. And if my dreams came true there would be some kind of technology device or sonic rifle animation, but that is pie in the sky thinking. I am also ok with adding some chain attack mechanic for electric. I've often thought that. -
Did you know that Circle of Thorn death mages in Peregrine Island, like around the Portal Corp building but also in PI radio missions, do not count towards the Circle of Thorn boss badges (Weed Whacker I think)? Also, Succubi in Sharkhead do not either, but the boss mages there do, and so do the Hellfrosts, which have their own badge. This seems like an oversight. Anyone else have some annoying things that should count toward kill badges but do not?

A little respect for Back Alley Brawler
Turric replied to aniquiel's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Yeah, I realized my mistake a little bit ago when I googled it because it was nagging me. The Dragonlance character was Silvara who was a dragon shapechanged into an elf woman. I am not familiar with WoW stuff, but I did recognize the pictures of Sylvanus Windrunner from advertisements or something. My fault. -

STO isn't bad at all. I do not have any links or anything, it has been several years since I played. But my impression of it was moderately positive. As a big Trek person, it should hit all your nostalgia points, from every version of Star Trek. The game is split between setting up your ship for space combat and then your personal character for planet exploration. The second half was a little lackluster, but improved right before I stopped playing a few years ago. The end game and dailies are a little complex and will require your research, because there are expansions upon expansions. Somewhat like SWTOR if you're familiar. Overall, I enjoyed playing through to max level and running all the missions and quest lines for both Federation and Klingon. The Romulan one was actually decent but I lost interest in the game so my Romulan never reached max level. The game was made (or handled) by Cryptic, which made COH, so there was a little familiarity there also. The community was very helpful, one of the better gaming communities that I've come across. But the amount of players is not SWTOR levels. I would actually guess it to be comparable to Homecoming. They do come out with regular updates, or at least did, the last time I checked, which was more than a year ago. I would recommend it to Trek fans but I would think that science fiction fans would get more mileage from Eve Online. -

I played AoC for more than a year. It is a wonderfully looking game with great potential. In my opinion, what killed that game was that it seemed unfinished. The costume system there was just bad. It needed to take a hint from SWTOR in that department. And the final end game? And the main quest line being essentially the same regardless of which class you play. There were just a lot of bad things about Conan countered by the fact that it was really really pretty to look at, and the combat system was fun. But if you want a good Necromancer class. AoC had probably the best one I have seen. And as for SWTOR, it is still going strong. I logged in there a few months ago to find they increased the max level again, but the space stations were thronged with people. If the writer of that post wanted to use a game as an example, he should have brought up Dark Age of Camelot. While still going, the population suffered from changes to the game. Or what about Star Trek Online? -
