  1. I have issues with how he says Synapse. I guess my original point is that you can have things look the same and sound remarkably different and the only way you you can tell is by knowing. There was an old woman from Slough Who had a terrible cough She hacked up some snot and said "I feel grot I hope I stop feeling so rough"
  2. it's all greek to me https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Terpsichore
  3. Have we been saying it wrong all this time? The above is a tune from an album I've had for many years and play consistently because I love it so And I always pronounced that track "Terp see cor" And Manticore as "Man tea cor" But apparently Terpsichore is pronounced "Terp Sick or ee" So following that logic, should we not apply the same pronunciation to our game's richest bowman? It would be "Man tick or ee" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terpsichore This is very much a first world issue but I am curious.
  4. I concur with most of the opinions here that +End is the most critical thing to aim for. I've found that during the levelling process, Endurance is the limiting factor. It's a lot less debilitating than it was on live, but it still matters. But once you're at 50, you've got your character to where it needs to be and unlocked your Alpha, which then potentially solves all your End issues (if you haven't already done so by then) it's worth that respec and as part of that process, you are able to boost your max HP and Regen (and fine tune your End) with little difficulty. A lot of that will depend on your playstyle and progression rate - so YYMV - but I suspect if you prioritise your HP on the journey to 50 you might find yourself compromising your character quite badly in terms of its main function.
  5. Jumped on to play some Wedding missions with a friend. We did our first set fine, then we both swapped toons, but on return I didn't see her on my global list. She was standing in front of me and we were able to team, but at no point did I see her on my global friends. I believe that she saw me. Swapped after that and found her the moment I was in game. Did it a couple of other times and everything seemed entirely normal so just that one time didn't see her on globals.
  6. I understand your sentiment, but I disagree with it. The Devs did a pretty good job of keeping what by shutdown was a very old game even then updated. They constantly introduced new environmental graphical tech (Faultline for example) that impacted the game very positively. I was quite a vocal critic of the devs on live in terms of content. I think there were areas that they lost coherent direction in terms of the story - but in terms of actually keeping the game relevant and not looking dated, I think they did an excellent job. I'm ok with you having a different opinion but you might be giving them a bit of a disservice.
  7. Henry Mancini wrote some bloody good stuff
  8. Probably easier to imagine this as something akin to the X-Men's Danger Room. Play a scenario on repeat until you've got it down.
  9. Better go back to that private server and tweak the knobs then. Probably best done in a dark room with some tissues to hand Your fundamental premise is borked and specious and you've actually given no coherent argument as to what is actually wrong.
  10. Ride that sucker
  11. @macskull peabringers. See above and pray it wasn't a worse typo than I first imagined!
  12. Thanks for your input guys. I found those both very useful, and reassuring because this was the best build I'd come up with prior to that and it seems to be pretty on par with yours. Maybe that really is just the best we can get a Sent like this and in that light I'm not unhappy with what I came up with. Again, way OTT with the Res, but probably impervious to res debuff so if I can keep mobile and not spend my time in Melee (which she's not designed for anyhow) I could be ok. I'm hoping the link provided gives anyone interested insight into how I've built it! Crimson Charger - Sentinel (Electrical Blast - Electric Armor).mxd
  13. I dusted off my all Elec sentinel this weekend for the Wedding missions and I realised how much fun she was. But it's a crap SO build and hasn't been respecced after 50. It's fully Incarnated to at least T3 (some T4s IIRC) and I've got a full set of Cupid's IOs to slap in it. But I've been struggling to come up with anything like a good build. I have a full set of Titanium Coating - not great, I know and I'm pretty inf poor in comparison to many so I don't want to go purples and specials more than necessary. In terms of pool powers Combat Jumping & Hasten is mandatory and I quite like Experimentation - Speed of Sound is fun and I like Toxic Dart and Adrenal Booster - partly as good mules (AB takes a couple of Rectified Reticles which is a cheap thing.) I also note that Lightning Reflexes is stated as improving recharge time and movement speed. Recharge is -20% so added to Hasten (70%) does that reduce recharge by 90% prior to slotting? in the builds I've come up with I've managed to get waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the 75% Max Resistance except for Toxic and Psionic which are around 50% each. That seems like overkill. Is there any advantage to exceeding max Resist? I also noticed that in action it's pretty good at End drain and I rarely run out of End even in an SO build being very active. Can I increase -End on foes to cripple them? I also don't wanna take Voltaic Sentinel. If it's anything like as crap as it is on Blasters I really don't like it. Feel free to convince me otherwise or maybe do not 🤣 Thanks in advance. I look forward to seeing what you lovely folk come up with.
  14. Carpentry is a highly useful skill, to be sure.
  15. I just wanna play a peabringer now. Who doesn't love having their legumes delivered personally?
  16. It's a magical name!
  17. Are those mutually exclusive?
  18. First world problems. I've never actually seen someone pass the star to an unwilling participant. I've seen a lot of team formers offer to pass star to higher levels who may or not accept it. The reason for this is simple: Many people are unwilling to form the team so there are folk forming the team than wanting to team. You don't have to lead, and if they poke you with a star, just tell them no and pass it back or quit and form your own team then the issue doesn't arise.
  19. Jus ad bellum, jus in bello; Just cause in war and just conduct. Essentially that requires that a state (or other authorised body) has a just cause to commit to war, and that the conduct of that war is conducted in a just manner. Those lofty ideals have consistently failed across most known conducts, but they are essentially the pillars of chivalry. In the modern age they are largely aspirational in terms of real war and warfare. That said they are good markers for a hero to adhere to - and in general we know that our cause is just - we see villain groups committing crimes in the very streets, so we have the evidence of our own eyes that our cause in "arresting" them is just. We also know that despite the fact we can encase a villain in ice, or burn him with a fireball, or smack him in the face with a huge fucking axe, we will not kill, nor even maim him. Therefore our conduct in that arrest is just. We know our victims will be defeated and teleported automagically to a healing station and thence to the Zig, only to be released the following day to rinse and repeat. Hero side we are very constrained within this framework and it's not until we encounter Vanguard that there are any real grey areas. Even then we are largely reacting to situations with which we are presented and have limited choices. And that's fine because whilst it might be great to offer ambiguous moral choices to a character that would fundamentally change the nature of the game and it would no longer be city of heroes. It's also mechanically difficult to offer those choices to several thousand individual players at once in an MMO. But those ideals remain relevant and apposite. Might serves right in a just society. If we take that as a good starting point for a hero in Paragon, then any deviation from that then changes the character from hero to something different (lesser?) - be it vigilante, rogue or even villain. You could almost turn it into a pretty obvious matrix to define CoX alignment: Just Cause Just Conduct Hero Y Y Uphold the ideals Vigilante Y N The Greater Good Rogue N Y The Selfish Rebel Villain N N Anything Goes It's not perfect, but it's a good enough approximation for me.
  20. They perceive you as little more than cannon fodder unless you have friends.
  21. I think it's a can of worms that is best left unopened 🤣 Truthfully, I don't know. Each of my characters is different but they are all aspects of me. Some are simply drones - run them to 50 then parked forevermore except on high days, holidays or when that specific toon is needed. Others, well they become much more significant - and I know where they stand in the CoH universe but it's largely fluffy and mutable. Three examples: Scarlet Shocker will always try and do the right thing, to keep Paragon safe. But sometimes she "slips up" despite her best intentions and of course has been red side (because badges and progression reasons) Barbed Quarrel is one of the few things missing from the end game: An unalloyed Cole absolutist. The founder of the Praetorian Imperial Secret Service, she wants to complete his mission on Primal Earth. Huntsman Strauss is one of the toughest SOBs in Arachnos and will stop at little to get the job done, whatever it takes. I don't play to an alignment so much as how their character works out.
  22. I think this is one of those unanswerables. A lot depends on a person's cultural upbringing. Good example: Back on live I remember a discussion regarding Blue Steel, Kings Row trainer. You could broadly break down the discussion into two distinct groups; those who thought he was a hero and those who thought he was if not exactly a villain a very nasty piece of work. What I found most interesting from that conversation was that there was a very clear divide about the geography of those two positions. Largely those in the USA revered him while almost everyone else thought he was a complete git. That's one of those conversations that challenges our world view - which tends to be very fixed. Our "moral compass" is largely formed very young and informs us, unchangingly throughout our life, like our politics and religious beliefs. How do you measure goodness or villainy in a game anyhow?
  23. I just wanna cite this as yet another example of when a volunteer dev team fails to listen to suggestions!* #sarcasm Seriously - thanks for this and the prompt recognition. Truly appreciated
  24. I like this a lot but boy did the devs put the contacts in about the worst place possible lol
