The most ludicrous tank

honoroit

Recommended Posts

I'd parked my tanks. In particular a staff/bio. Played again this weekend and was astounded by the aoe updates from some time ago I'd not taken time to enjoy.

At 43, I could easily do +4/8 sl, toxic is a joke so Artemis people, and pretty much anything I ran into if in defensive adaptation.

Not the fastest in the world for, but ludicrous levels of sustain/mitigation.

It led me to look back at a parked dark/dark I have...

Could anything be better than staff/bio?

Do you have an !ultimate tanker! that takes advantage of the expanded aoes and target caps?

My ultimate tanker for pure survivability is invuln/dark melee.  Scaling defense, constant -tohit debuffs, and a self heal that's an attack.  AoE improvements make it possible to use Soul Drain and Dark Consumption as attacks.  Tough as Granite, none of the drawbacks.

For all around fun, though, I'd do Radiation/Spines.  Bio/Spines is also quite good, but Rad/Spines excels at tanking because of the broad spectrum of its resistances; the worst hole is to Cold damage, and even that is bearable, and not that common in the late game.

My invuln/staff is pretty much unkillable now that it's completely IOd out. Staff doesn't completely fit the theme I was going for so I've been debating going TW/invuln brute. I feel like the tank is so...umm..tanky (with IOs), that it would still perform fine as a brute but with way more damage. My problem is getting more energy/negative res on mids.

Any decent secondary with Radiation Armor is pretty much amazing, since you get more of everything you need from Rad Armor, damage, healing, endurance, resists, recharge, debuffs, AoE, etc. Invuln is sturdier but intensely boring, and you can't use IO's to fix that.

For secondaries I think Dark, Ice, Rad, and Savage are all cool, different, interesting and benefit from Rad specifically in one way or another, but I think literally any secondary does, I just think those are interesting sets.

My Rad/Dark is definitely the best tank I've ever played.  I imagine a stronger AoE primary might outperform in big incarnated teams, but everything else this one shines.

Another gushing review for Rad Armor!

I've played it specifically as Rad/Rad and that combo works so well together, /Rad is slow to spin up b/c Proton Sweep is bad, but Rad/ gives you two mininukes that are crazy good. You have great durability, chonky absorb, +recharge, end management, you debuff the hell out of everything... the only thing Rad/ doesn't do by itself is have a damage aura, and /Rad comes in and is like "Oh hi how about a double ticking damage aura? You interested?"

So great at taking damage, great end, recharge, ridiculous AOE, plentiful debuffs, legitimately NONSENSE proc opportunities... even an armor T9 with +Dam attached...

It just... it does everything? HOW DOES IT DO EVERYTHING OH GOD IS THIS WHAT CHEATING FEELS LIKE?!

Yeah, go ahead and try the ITF challenge in the Tank Gods thread.

A well-built Invuln/Staff should be able to survive it. I'm guessing the problem would be getting enough damage output from Staff to put down level 54 AVs in a reasonable time frame. But there's no time limit, and I encourage anyone to try. Misery loves company! 😉

It's Invuln/MA instead of Invuln/Staff, and I don't know what your energy/negative resistance is now, but here's a build I was testing on beta that seemed slightly harder to kill than my Shield/MA. Assuming two stacks of the ATO, you're at 75.8% EN resist. Best used with the Defense Amplifier taking you to 83.3%. Then you still have up to 10% scaling resistance, so you'll be hard capped at 33% hit points, which if you have Dull Pain up, will still be almost 1200. Anyway, perhaps a useful reference.

I'm gonna give Rad/Spines a try. I have a Rad/Fire that's also a lot of fun for pretty much the same reasons.

The only other Spines toon I've played is a Spines/Ice Scrapper named Iceberg Lettuce with the spines colored green.  It's fun too, but too often meets things that can smash his defense.

Yeah MA can be the game breaker on Invul 🙂

But i ll not try : i really have issue on MA on Tanker, Very very high dps but the lack of burst ... i cannot. I think MA desserve a good and powerfull rework of EC.

I cant wait to have E27 up to enjoy my SD NRJ at 100% potential.

I'm gonna give Rad/Spines a try. I have a Rad/Fire that's also a lot of fun for pretty much the same reasons.

I'm in the low 40's and kinda annoyed at how slow so many Spines attacks are.  Like after a Spine Burst, just standing there, glorying in the release. Come on, I want to do something else now!

Elec with capped S/L and Nrg resists, and Psi, cold and fire in the 80's, Neg 70's and Toxic at 50... and positional defenses all up there (especially with Incarnate help, melee over 40), late game Psi damage and end drain being a joke to elec, draining mobs and keeping them drained of end so they can only hit like grandma, a fast recharging heal (that is rarely needed) and basically no holes at all..... Elec is as near Godmode as you can get. After spending some inf and building your Incarnate powers up.

Yeah, go ahead and try the ITF challenge in the Tank Gods thread.

True.  But you can be nigh unkillable and solo 54x8 stuff with ease at a much lower level of sturdy than needed for the challenge.

My stalker never dies at 54 against unbuffed non incarnate enemies but I was smooshed in that challenge.

Based on initial testing, pretty sure my post patch shield/nrg tank is going to be the most broken thing I've created in game.

I'm thinking of doing an inul/em and using that guassians in invincibility some of us were talking about a couple months ago.

But then I wonder about doing a EM/invul scrapper instead lol.
