Contact and Mission Progress from 1-50.
Grouchybeast replied to Golden Azrael's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
It would be great to repurpose/expand the contacts window to make content more accessible. Contacts could be put in thematic groups (origin, zone, AT, alignment, storyline, enemy group etc) and the players could use the TP to new contact feature to start a storyline. It would also be nice to be able to use this to bypass the need to unlock the older contacts. If you're trying to coordinate two or more players playing through the same content, it can be annoying trying to coordinate unlocking the contacts. -
New IO set - Mending Bulwark, universal protection
Grouchybeast replied to Vanden's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
There's a really handy table on the wiki that lists all the relative enhancement values for the different types of enhancements. The number in the left-hand column is the total enhancement value, i.e. if a level 25 Acc/Dam IO gives 20% to Acc and 20% to Dam, the left-hand column would say 40%. -
I like a lot about redside, but what it could really do with is more variety in the enemies. At the moment it can be a bit All Longbow All The Time in places.

I love collecting the exploration badges in Eden and Monster Island. Both zones have great flavour text on the badges. The Shadow Shard exploration badges have great text, too, and the zones are beautiful to fly through. Takes a while, though!

Vernon von Grun is a lot of fun. I mean, this is just his text to tell you that he doesn't have a mission for you: Oh, you must be [Character]. I am afraid that as a *grumble* 'mere lab-assistant', I have nothing that can be of interest to you. Oh, but just you wait. Yes, just wait! They said my theories were 'impractical'. The fools! They did not understand real genius even while it bides it's time cleaning their lab equipment! But one day, I'll show them! I'll show them all the power of my theories and of my amazing Scientific Mind! AH-HAH-HAH-HAH-HAH-HAAAA!!! Uh, I mean, I'm just an ordinary lab assistant. And NOTHING more. Perhaps you should talk to Terence Dobbs or Dr. Forrester. Plus you get to spend a mission with Becky the Tarantula Mistress who is, like, sooooo totally the best NPC in the game. She rocks!

The modest amount of marketeering on my main. I've never got into converter roulette, so all my marketing is either selling drops, or buying recipes and crafting them (very retro, I know!). I've been on a break, but between the beginning of November and the end of April, I've logged just over 3 billion in IO sales across all my toons. I really need to sell more inspirations. ETA: As I've been logging in to characters, I've been claiming outstanding sales, and since the end of April prices are definitely down pretty much across the board. There's the odd thing which is stable, but I've been looking at current prices, and they usually somewhere between a half and two thirds of my sale price, down to a third. The occasional thing is holding steady, but really not much.

I'm hoping that they'll make a completely separate badge for completing a series of redside arcs. That would be much better than shoehorning a couple of redside arcs into an otherwise blueside lineup. There's so much great content redside. In a similar vein, I really hope that if that happens, it wouldn't be an either/or badge, where getting one badge grants the other on side-switching.

What Tips can you pass along for soloing ITF
Grouchybeast replied to plainguy's topic in General Discussion
See, this is why you PVP and I don't. If I tried to stay out of Romulus's way like that, I'd end up getting confused, jump face-first into a wall and promptly get splattered :-) -
Concept for Kallisti Wharf: "Timeskip"
Grouchybeast replied to mechahamham's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I don't really understand the idea that non-Incarnate content is being neglected, because in both late live development and on HC there has been consistent additions of new non-incarnate content. The live devs were working through the lower levels of the game, adding some great new arcs and revamping old TFs. Right at shutdown, I24 added a solid chunk of non-incarnate blue and redside, right across the levels. The new story content added on HC isn't Incarnate level, either. -
What Tips can you pass along for soloing ITF
Grouchybeast replied to plainguy's topic in General Discussion
When I was duoing the ITF, I found Hover very helpful. Romulus's distance attacks are much less painful than letting him smack you in the face, plus if you hover near a wall he'll spend most of his time jumping on and off it while trying to path to you. Deal with the ambushers ASAP, too. The DefDebuff is a major pain if they start to land hits. -
There are some lovely subtle sounds effects, too, like the susurration of leaves when you fly through a tree.
-
I get motion sickness on cave maps too, sometimes. I find that fly/hover is significantly less likely to make me queasy than sprint/ss, possibly because the motion is smoother.
-
I ended up with Bahn Mi versus Reuben. Pickley goodness! On the other hand, it didn't have one of these, with bacon and plenty of chili sauce, which is the real winner.

@Glacier Peak 9. Darrin Wade as “art thief” I still think that Graham Easton's arc is a better fit, here. The Who Will Die? story where Wade is defeated is quite high level. 11. The mission "To Something Greater - Part Three: Coming Together" has Penelope Yin practicing a "Neat Trick" for the “deranged little psychic” hint (https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Mission:To_Something_Greater_-_Part_Three:_Coming_Together) Infernia is a 40-50 level contact again, though, which seems to be too high.

I think we seriously need to consider the possibility that the elevators never actually move at all. The office building floors simply phase through one another, depositing the passenger at the appropriate destination. The so-called 'elevators' act as dimensional anchor points which stop you summoning an elevator in an Atlas Park office and ending up buried twenty feet underground in solid rock. (That thing where you change levels, find yourself staring at the new map at floor level, and then suddenly snap into the right location? Obviously a glitch in the phasing system.)

The first count as five, and come as a squad; A pirate and a commander and a mute, how odd. Not to mention the swapping of bits On the lovebirds, who aren't, and always pitch fits. This sounds like possibly the Admiral Sutter TF? The first two could be the Durays, and the lovebirds could be the genderswapped Jane Temblor and Fusion. Not sure about the mute -- the other AV in Sutter is Captain Stone. Jane and Fusion also show up in the Marchand arc, but I had even less success mapping the others onto that. Become bane of the caldera, impose your hegemony Then seek out and humble the son of Alcmene Aha! We got an edit. Looks like someone found out that Heracles is not, in fact, the son of Hera :-) Finally you should arrest the cyst-maker And that is the end of those troublemakers. So, anyway, those now sound even more like Striga. Heracles is found in the Long Jack mission from Stephanie Peebles. An art thief's on the list, a fight steeped in honor. This sounds like it could be the Last Rites arc from Graham Easton? Interestingly, that's a branching arc with a moral choice, that awards one of two different badges depending on the choice you make. And so is a widow whose sub is a goner. Night Widow Nocturne. You wouldn't have met her if not for the Doctor, Whose book is now finished, a literary shocker. The widow matches up with this being Doc Delilah. The souvenir for finishing her arc is her book, 'The Real Faultline - by Dr. D. Stein'. Also in your travels, a deranged little psychic, Searching for the trinket that grants wishes. (Neat trick!) This one sounds like it should be familiar, but I can't pin it down. The PsychoChronoMetron is a device that grants wishes (but this seems unnecessary, since we've already throughly covered the Faultline arc), but who is the deranged little psychic? There must be more wish-granting objects in CoH. Or something in First Ward? Plenty of psychics there, but wish granting? The Lords of Death both met their fate, The Chernobog brothers in the Lord of Death arc from Eagle Eye? And another you met on your trek to the gate. There are quite a lot of gates in CoH. The comma linking this one to the Lords of Death did make me think about the Night Ward arc The Gate that Cannot Open, which features another NPC identified with Death, Lamashtu. Perhaps a little high level? NW can be started at 30. You went to court and toppled the monarchy, After the kerfuffle in Overbrook de-tenured a Ph.D. Those do sound like they could be the Synapse and Positron TFs, but if this is a new accolade, would it really have overlapping missions with another one? Finally, find Freedom at the annual game, And claim the honor of gold medal fame. Another edit, separating the mention of Freedom from the reward medal. Don't really have an idea for this one. Maaaaybe the Summer Blockbuster? But that doesn't have an obvious reason why Freedom would be capitalised, so. Something to do with the Freedom Phalanx? No idea, really. One interesting thing is that all this content is pretty low level. So perhaps this is the first of several badges for doing mission content in different level bands?

There's a preliminary list of Paragon businesses on the HC wiki. I might spend a while flying around Paragon and the Rogue Islands and see what I can find to add.

Is work on page 6 ongoing or stalled?
Grouchybeast replied to aethereal's topic in Open Beta Testing
That's what I thought. Quite a lot of the lines could be references to already existing content, mostly mission arcs. -
There are multiple private CoH servers, none of which have been hit by C&Ds. However, only one of them is very publicly posting claims to be in negotiations with NCSoft about rights, and is also collecting money to cover legal fees for those negotiations. I actually think it's much more likely that NCSoft would slap a C&D on that kind of thing, if the negotiations weren't really happening, because NCSoft's name would be being used to actively defraud people. But NCSoft haven't done that. So...

Someone's clearly been sneaking through the Studio 55 portal!

To me this just sounds...really boring. Like, here's the shiny full-strength awesome power where you rise from the dead in a burst of flame, or here's the dull, milquetoast version where basically nothing happens and you just keep fighting. I don't want the devs to be spending their time on making the game less exciting.

Switch "Echo" zones to free for all zones
Grouchybeast replied to Glacier Peak's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
This would have been an absolutely fabulous idea back on live, during the period when there was such a restricted supply of mid-level magical salvage on the blueside market. All it would've lacked would be a level cap in the 30-35 range to farm mid-level recipe drops. As things are now, I'm not sure it'll do much good for traffic in the zones. Generally, I agree with the 'solution in search of a problem' people. The zones are for nostalgia and badging. It might be better to look for suggestions on how to make hazard zones, a part of the 'real' game world, more interesting to play in. -
Switch "Echo" zones to free for all zones
Grouchybeast replied to Glacier Peak's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
But more active with what players? This is the part I don't understand, PVP players already don't use most of the existing PVP zones. Why would they use these new zones? What's going to attract them there? If the proposal doesn't include a mechanism to actually increase the number of players who want to PVP, you have, at best, less activity in some zones balanced by more activity in others. So you've made the Echoes more active, and the other PVP zones less active. How does that benefit the game or players? Honestly, the only outcome I can imagine is that any badgers -- the only people who do, currently, actually make use of the Echoes -- will be cranky, and will spend less time there, due to the annoying PVP game mechanics and the outside chance of ganking. So it would most likely have the exact opposite effect in terms of total player time spent in the Echoes. Incidentally, do people RP in the Echo zones? If they do, I don't imagine adding PVP mechanics would improve their experience, either.
