Making Task Forces Challenging Again!
ZekeStenzland replied to Plasmar's topic in General Discussion
If you’re on a task force and people think the difficulty should be raised, they generally say something. You finish out the easy mission, raise the diff for the next mission, and move on. If, on the other hand the difficulty is too high, you have to quit the tf and restart; or you have to go through some really complicated dance to get everyone out of the mission, logged out, logged back in, and the mission reset; or you have to complete the mission at a too-difficult level before you can reset it. All of these options cost extra playtime and risk losing teammates. None of these are actually good options. For practical reasons, it’s better to leave the default difficulty low and let the players bump it up themselves. -
I think unit might only be 10000inf to unlock them from P2W. Just like dual inspirations. Never thought about using team insps to buff pets though. Interesting idea.

It’s been ages since I did Ramiel’s arc on an SO build, so I won’t judge on how soloable it is in general. That being said, here’s some other tips. Advertise in LFG yourself. People are generally happy to help out on missions if you announce them. Anything from defeating Veles in Kings Row to Diabolique in Dark Astoria. If you wait for someone else to start the group you need, you could be waiting a long time. Load up on inspirations and other buffs. Buy the big ones off the auction house. Email ‘em to yourself so you have spares to grab as you use the ones in your tray. And use them! Grab Nectanebo’s Curse Breaker temp power from the Vanguard base in RWZ. Captain Holtz and the Vanguard guys you meet in the final mission will occasionally throw a nasty debuff that reduces Max End by 50 and lasts for minutes. I’ve had Holtz throw it on me twice during a single fight. You’ll have to show autopower buffs to see the debuff. Curse Breaker is the only way (besides dying) to remove it other than sitting out for the N minutes til it wears off. Trapdoor regenerates a lot while his Bifurcations are up. I make a macro to target them, and then when the screen announces he’s bifurcated, I zoom around the room, spamming the target macro til I get him, then burn it down as quick as possible. And then go back to Trapdoor. He’s usually pretty thoughtful about standing in the lava and firing at you from range, if you give him the chance. Last, the final elite boss minotaur in the last mission is Titan Weapons, so be prepared for massive damage spikes. Inspirations are your friend! Hope that helps!

I often monitor PvE Stealth Radius, because it can be easier to tell when I restealth from combat, depending on what else is happening onscreen. I also monitor influence as well, because it’s easier than bringing up the character ID screen, the crafting screen, or the auction house.

First thing I do is run Mender Ramiel’s arc in Oro. It has a special reward, which is to unlock your Alpha slot. If you don’t run the arc, you’ll just have to unlock with regular incarnate xp. So it’s not the end of the world if you skip the arc, but it’s more efficient. Second thing is to start Officer Nolan’s arc in Peregrine Island. It unlocks the Dark Astoria missions, for all sorts of incarnate goodness. I don’t know who starts all that stuff red side. Scooped. I knew I should have finished posting instead of hanging out on that conference call!

I have a vague recollection from live that damage resist debuff was one of those triggers that encouraged running away.

Best "alignment" for a Pure-Praetorian?
ZekeStenzland replied to Lazarillo's topic in General Discussion
Also remember the timeline. FW/NW occur after Dark Astoria arcs and some iTrials, as I understand it. There was a forum post recently about the chronology of Praetorian content. So it’s not like you just rescued Katie yesterday and she’s already forgotten you. Even if it was just yesterday for you. -
Best "alignment" for a Pure-Praetorian?
ZekeStenzland replied to Lazarillo's topic in General Discussion
My recollection is that the main arcs work the same for everyone. The only difference is that there are some contacts who give repeatable missions but no arcs that are alignment specific. Lorewise, everyone in first ward and night ward is mostly exiled from Praetoria, so what you did “back there” is mostly irrelevant in these zones. Katie Douglas and Noble Savage are the only contacts I can think of that you meet in First Ward that you might have encountered in Praetoria. -
Mixing attuned and unattuned IOs

Uh, yeah, I was, um, just testing y’all to see who would spot that. You win! -
Mixing attuned and unattuned IOs
ZekeStenzland replied to ZekeStenzland's topic in General Discussion
Okay. Just one of things things where you think you know stuff that turns out to be not true. I guess now I don’t have to attune my performance shifter chance for +end to go with my attuned endmod any more, other than OCD reasons... -
I had a power slotted with 4 unattuned set IOs, getting the 4-piece set bonus. I thought I would buy attuned versions, unslot the old, slot the new, and sell the unattuned versions. However, I was only able to get 3 of the 4 attuned pieces immediately. So I went ahead and replaced the 3 with attuned versions and noticed that I was still getting the 4-piece set bonus. I was under the impression that having, say, one attuned io and one unattuned io in the same power would not get you the set bonus. They would either have to be both attuned or both unattuned. Am I wrong? Is this new behavior? A bug?

Looks like it might be the map from the Who Will Die #7 arc, where you fight Darren Wade and the Rularuu out in space.

Unable to convert attuned Analyze Weakness to Shield Breaker
ZekeStenzland replied to SalvaNos's topic in Bug Reports
Wait, what?? Are you saying that attuned IOs convert as though they were the same level as your character’s current effective level?? Clamped, no doubt, to the set’s actual level range? I’d read elsewhere on the forums that it didn’t work that way. -
I sort my characters by day job status first, then alphabetically. First come those who have all day jobs badges. Then a space. Then all those working on day job badges. Then a space. Then all those working on day job badges, but are blocked from getting more due to level or goldness. Saves a ton of time when cycling day jobs, but manually editing the playerslots file can get tiresome. Also, when picking up Tank explo badge in echo gc, I always climb up the statue without using fly or jump powers, because that’s how I used to get it back in the day. There was another badge in AP(?) that was on an office building ledge. But you could juuust barely get to by climbing a nearby building, jumping onto the monorail tracks, running down them, and jumping to the ledge. All while dodging the monorail. But it’s gone now.

The tiers aren’t all equally likely, but I think it’s 8 EM for one rare salvage. If you ran the arc 4 times, not only are you likely to hit rare once, but you’d get 3 other pieces of salvage as well.
-
I find that picking the random incarnate salvage to be the better reward option for Burden of the Past. You may not get the tier of salvage you want, but you get to hand-pick the salvage itself.

My memory is a bit hazy, but as I recall, this is a long-standing bug and existed back in the day on live. As I understand it, it has to do with having a macro, in a power tray, that changes the power tray the macro is in, where the new macro being swapped in is occasionally truncated to the length of the old macro being swapped out. To no one’s surprise, pb & ws players seem to run into this bug a lot. I believe the common workaround is to use keybinds to do the tray switching directly, rather than having the tray switching occur from inside a macro. Suggest checking the pb & ws forums for the exact details. I think it might also work just fine if the macros aren’t in the power trays being swapped in and out, but it’s been a while since I played with this. I use the keybind solution myself.

Proper Uses for Sleep, Please Help
ZekeStenzland replied to EyeLuvBooks's topic in General Discussion
Mass Hypnosis, if you have it available, is great in DFB For the Cadaver Counter badge. Also, in DiB, if your team doesn’t have what it takes to drop both end bosses at the same time, Sleep will put the boss on hold. And most single target sleeps start with long base durations, so it’s not like you have to keep spamming the sleep to keep it up. -
Had similar issues with my tank this weekend. Bio/Rad, can handle lots of things with ease, but not LR. Didn’t think to try piles of inspirations. But we had other things going against us. I was only 45 at the time, and not even close to end game build. Also, I think we only had empathy and storm for support, so not much in the way of debuffing. Didn’t have much trouble on my Sav/Inv brute, once I switched from jet pack to super jump. But I’m pretty sure he was incarnated at the time, so hardly a fair comparison.

Discussion: Disabling XP No Longer Increases Influence
ZekeStenzland replied to Jimmy's topic in General Discussion
The UI is mostly to blame for this. There’s 3 options. The UI only shows you 2 of them. To get the third, you have to click on the 2nd choice (which is a combo box) and pick option 3. Then once you do that conversion, the UI forgets which one you had selected so you have to pick it again for the next conversion. Why they didn’t just show you all three choices at once, I’ll never know. As I often say, the underlying functionality is 90% of the work, the UI is the other 90%. -
Discussion: Disabling XP No Longer Increases Influence
ZekeStenzland replied to Jimmy's topic in General Discussion
Off topic: I had an AE arc back on live called The Necroeconomicon about Black Marketing Secrets From Beyond That Man Was Not Meant To Know. Had a crate of counterfeit luck charms in it. Was run by well over 5 people. On topic: I’ve heard this change will make the price of IOs skyrocket. Is there a specific date for this? I have a clever plan for how to become fabulously wealthy once the sales price for ATOs hits 50M as promised. I’d like to put it in place ASAP before other folks try to muscle in on my action! -
Blackfeather's Mind Control Updates v1
ZekeStenzland replied to Blackfeather's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
A simpler, no new tech implementation of Dizzied might be just to add an unenhanceable 15sec mag 3 disorient to mesmerize and mass hypnosis. That way, if mobs get woken up immediately, there’s still some benefit, but if they’ve been asleep for a bit, you’ve probably gotten most of the value out of the sleep anyway. Doesnt address the other issues of Mind a Control, but does make the sleeps more relevant on teams. -
True. But they’re unmistakably boxing shorts. Whereas the bike shorts didn’t have trim, could be tinted and patterned to be almost anything.
-
CO had “bike shorts” as a costume. They were pretty versatile clothing piece. I have to admit I’ve never used the CoH Boxing Shorts ever.

Do You Make the Same Character Over Again?
ZekeStenzland replied to Herotu's topic in General Discussion
ATs and power sets all over the map. Although, due to my glacial leveling speed, I have less than 30 alts, so it’s not like they cover everything. I’m working on getting one of every AT up to 50, and as of last night I’m at 5. As for the second question, technically they’re all huge shirtless dudes with facial hair, but the hair could be blond or black or purple or green or brown... What more variety does anyone need?
