When will the "Home for the Hoilidays" badge be added to the Event badges?

I'll try to get to it this weekend. I also need to update some of my mods to include that badge so I'll try to do that this weekend too.

I must be getting blind in my old age, but, where did you guys hide the macro to run thru all of your existing badges and output them to the chat log file?  I've switched computers, and I don't know if I copied over the actual macro txt file.  Thanks! 🙂

AANd I found it, buried in the Parser Help section.  Thanks! 😄

I am only a month late, but I submitted the pull request on github to add the winter event badge. Pull requests usually get merged within a day or so of submittal, so if all goes as planned the new winter badge should appear on Badger soon.

Just came back to the game and I was always a rabid badge hunter back on live, so this tool is a Godsend, thank you for continuing to work on it and keeping it up to date.

Is anyone working on adding the Issue 27 Page 7 badges to this?

Yes, they have all been added (plus quite a number of other typos and other fixes I found) via pull request as of late last night. The site owner just needs to approve/merge the changes and the updates will be live. He's usually good about merging stuff within a day or three of when I submit it, but it might be longer.

How do we update it? I have that one and badge pop up one installed with the mod tool, but can't figure out how to check on it or update it. Sorry I'm not very tec savvy, it's a miracle I was even able to get the mod tool installed and the game running

Looks like the data was merged and the new badges I spot checked looked good, so Badger is now up-to-date. I also submitted a request to update the URLs to the HC Wiki (Badger was still using an older URL for the HC Wiki links) which was completed, so all the HC Wiki URL links from Badger should be current.

I am not sure I follow. This thread is for a badge tracking website named Badger, not a game mod. If you need a walkthrough on how to use Badger, I made a post at this link that walks you through the basics. Badger can automatically track your badges if you upload an appropriate chatlog. I made a post at this link that will guide you through the steps of creating an appropriate log file and uploading it to the Badger site. Be forewarned that the Badger log parser can be a bit ornery, and I made a post at this link that has some troubleshooting ideas if the log parser doesn't quite work the first time around. Otherwise, just ask questions here and hopefully someone can answer it.

Yes, I noticed that the new badges got implemented on the site this weekend.  Thanks for your work on this! 👍

So, I finally got around to trying this thing, after being repeatedly badgered (no pun intended) to give it a chance. Trouble is... I am NOT going to enter 1147 badges into it by hand. If I'm going to use it, it'll be with the Log Parser, at least for a start. And that thing just... DOES NOT WORK. At least, not for me. I followed the Help-file, adjusted for the different file-structure of Homecoming versus original CoH, and I HAVE a chat-log with a full list of my badges in it. I've checked it manually. It's ALL THERE. But when I hand it over to the Log Parser, it just goes "Beep boop no new badges detected." There are no options, no toggles, no switches, nothing I CAN do differently, from what I can see... so, I really don't know why it seems to work for everybody else?

I am not sure what you mean by this statement. This badge tracking site has only been available for Homecoming, so there shouldn't be a need to account for any differences from the original CoH.

I'll quote from my previous post a few posts up:

If you have not already done so, I recommend visiting that link and trying the suggestions therein, including reading over the last 6 pages or so of this thread in case I missed any suggestions. Different tips have worked for different folks and perhaps one of these will work for you.

I was referring to the help-file that pops up when you try to use the Log Parse. It's clearly outdated - both assumes that your game is installed in the directory 'CoH' rather than 'Homecoming', and that the logs are found in '<CoHDirectory>/<username>/logs' rather than Homecoming/accounts/<username>/logs as is the case today. But as I said, I managed to straighten all that out pretty quickly.

More importantly, that suggestion worked! Very nice, looks like a handy tool indeed. Thing is, there's NOTHING in said help-file that suggests that you need the 'login' message in the log for it to work. Once you KNOW, it's a simple fix, but it really isn't something you'd guess at yourself. Maybe it's time to just... update and improve the help-popup in general?

It says in the help file that:

Quote

This assumes your City of Heroes directory is c:\CoH. Change it to match the directory you have installed City of Heroes to

This simply means that it is using the 'CoH' name for the CoH install root as an example. Folks name their CoH install root as lots of stuff other than 'Homecoming' so I don't really see the issue here. It's not clearly outdated. Your point about the log files is valid, as the logs are in different spots depending on the launcher used, so I'll see if I can find the right file to update that bit.

It states quite clearly in the help file to:

Quote

Make sure that you log into your character after enabling chat logging so the logs contain a record of which character to associate the badge with. Simply log out and then back in after enabling log parsing to ensure the log contains your character name.

Yes, there is! Go to the 'Characters' page of the Badger site. Click the 'Log Parser' button on the right side under the warning banner (I've circled this button in the screenshot below).

badger_chars.thumb.png.c53eee0b7bb59031e38a0070b17d56af.png

When you click that 'Log Parser' button, a dialog window will appear. Look in the lower right corner of that window for the 'Help' button and click it. A second window will pop up which has instructions for how to turn on log parsing (assuming it's not on already). Note that if you are turning on log parsing for the first time, please log out of your character and back in after turning log parsing on. The Badger parser keys off a welcome message that you get when you log in the character and if you don't log out/in after turning on log parsing, that welcome message will not be in the log and the log upload will fail.

The window which pops up also has a download link and instructions for running a custom bind file that will dump all your earned badges into your log file. Once you've run that custom bind file, simply return to the 'Log Parser' dialog window (via the 'Log Parser' button shown in the attached screenshot) and upload your log file and it will read in your character name and all their badges.

If you want to do this for multiple characters, you'll need to run the custom bind file for each character you want to upload. And be sure to upload the right log file. Log files are saved on a daily basis so be sure to upload the one from the day(s) that you ran the custom bind file.

If you have any questions just let me know.

Important note: This doesn't work if you already created the character on the website and it's sitting there empty. You click "submit" to upload the file, a progress bar fills up, then nothing. Once I deleted the blank character and tried again, it recreated the character and captured all the badges. So THANK YOU!

May I also suggest posting the above instructions on the first post in this thread, and/or on the website? I had to click a lot of links to get to this particular set of instructions.

hi there!  love the tracker, but am having an issue.  the badge dump doesnt seem to work exactly right for me. i can use the log to get the files i get in that play through (for example i went and got all the pratorian explores and used the parser and those load in fine.)  but none of the badges i got before that will go in.  i used the bind macro in the help, but that doesnt seem to do anything.  i just get a "no new badges were found" message.

on a side note, it lists me on everlasting and wont let me change it to excelsior, where i actually am lol

any help or suggestions would be awesome.  thanks!

EDIT: so i resolved this.  i think it was cause i had an old tequila launch and the newer one, and files for the game in 2 places.  so just deleted everything and reDLd the game.   it DOES still insist im on everliving instead of excelsior, and wont let me edit it, but maybe i did something wrong there!

i have 2 questions.

1) do i have to restart and delete my chat log for every character to update their badges?

2) is there a way to make a macro button for the bind command?

howdy @KeyboardKitsune!

I just got a new computer and forgot to back up badger.... so I went through the chat log import process. Thanks for that! It seems to have missed exactly one badge out of 1491.... "Tiki Fan" (Exploration) for some reason. I figured I would pass it along.

Thanks for an awesome tool!

Is there a way that I could help scrape the data or anything? I may have to do some learning, but I'd like to help.

The info lemming posted above is a good starting point but it takes a LOT more information and effort to be able to update the Badger database. Some of that is raw badge information which is relatively easily obtained, like badge category, in-game text, acquisition details, prerequisites for badges that have them, and sequential display order, among other stuff. The hardest part of updating the database, though, is knowing how to update it. That includes knowing how to create the relational keys, obtaining and in some cases properly cropping the icon art, knowing how to name all the files and where they go, understanding how to populate the various fields with respect to different badge alignments, genders, and categories, and things of that nature.

Since I normally delve pretty deeply into the badge-specific info for other mods and datasets that I work on, and because I've helped with Badger since nearly the beginning, I just take it upon myself to perform the updates. Couple that with the fact that the owner of the site has been away from the game for several years at this point. While he often responds quite quickly to pull requests, I know that the time (and perhaps inclination) he has available to devote to general maintenance, and to correcting errors in pull requests, is minimal. So, I put a lot of effort into making sure that everything is as correct as possible before I submit it, so that he can approve the changes with a minimal amount of hassle.

I would certainly welcome the assistance if someone is willing to take on the task of learning what they need to know to update the database. It is not a commitment that should be taken lightly, though. I'm not going to sugar coat it to make it seem like it is easier than it is, because there is a lot to learn. But I'm willing to share what I know for anyone that might be willing.

Just for reference, given that there are 15 new badges in the latest update and some of them are a bit complex (the accolades mainly), I'd estimate it will take me at least 10-15 hours worth of work to get all of them updated.
