Reverse Blasters.

I think there should be a melee equivalency to blasters. Instead of a ranged combat set you would choose a melee combat set and your secondary powers would be utilitarian, like blasters, and have two to three ranged attacks included. For instance I like playing ninjas and the only thing that gets close from my point of view are blasters. Lots of versatility. The drawback is that it is oriented to ranged as apposed to melee.
Thoughts?

Soooo.... Sretsalb?

No wait, the plural form should be Retsalbs.

Ok fine, Blappers.  And I too 100% support this idea.  A squishy melee with manipulation options would make for a very interesting, perma-mezzed character.  Imagine that, a primary set of melee attacks, and a secondary set of controls, blasts and manipulation.

So ... a reverse Dominator?

I think I'm confusing myself. I'll leave the thinking to specialists.

I like your idea, OP, but this needs to be moved to the suggestion forum.

This. ^ Dominators already do what the OP is suggesting. So I'm afraid that I'm gonna have to:

Yes and no, with the following to consider: my knowledge/experience of Doms is very VERY limited.

Dominators are a pure control primary and assault (Melee/range hybrid) secondary

What OP suggest is a pure Melee primary and a range/manipulation/control secondary.

So a kinda-sorta reverse Dom, but not a Dom per se.

Kinda like Scrappers and Tankers are mirrored (powersets only, not including mechanics) and yet, both remain perfectly pertinent and valid.

Food for thought?

Would rather see a melee/support archetype though.

Assault and Manipulation powersets already take many key powers from melee powersets that would make this not work. Energy manipulation for example has energy punch, bonesmasher, and total focus so melee/assault and melee/manipulation are off the table to be possible choices.

Currently on fire.

Same here. Only problem I see with it is figuring out how to balance it for difficulty settings given how weak some debuffs can become at +4. But the idea? Love it and have asked for the same before.

Assault/Armor? What Sents should have been?

Not quite - I meant leave the manipulation set alone as their primary, make the blast set the secondary, but remove a few of the blast powers and insert some armor/status protection powers instead.

I don't know if I agree. Most of what helps a blaster or potential Blapper is the avoidance and manipulation abilities. ( probably using wrong wording but moving on.) The Ninja Training power set has invisibility and dodging powers that help avoid damage. However, this is my only point of reference since I don't use any other abilities in the Blaster repertoire. The thing I struggle with in COH is how restricted each archetype is in their category. There are no Melee Manipulators, Controlling Tanks or Melee Masterminds. Shouldn't we broaden the horizen of this precious game that has been reclaimed from corporate death? Thoughts?

Yeah. One of the things that annoys me is that Sentinels don't have any melee attacks.

I gotta say, if I'd been making Sentinels, I would have made the secondary sets be a combination of mez protection and armor toggles and melee attacks.

So Sentinels would do almost as much damage as a Blaster (no Defiance stacks) but their armor would be much worse than a Scrapper. They wouldn't have the Sniper attacks or the tier 9 armor powers.

No. Homogeneous ATs increase power creep. More differentiation. Not less.

Basically a sort of Blapper playstyle.

How is this different from most Blasters already?
