I have about 500 toons now, only 2 run without hasten, a dark/thermal corr that i wanted to test out all the sorcery powers on. Torrent with an ff+rech let me get away with skipping it. The other is an elec/dark brute thats loaded up with ff+rech procs and has massive recharge without hasten. But do i play them regularly. Not really. Are they fun? Definitely. Skipping hasten is like skipping the fighting pool, its usually a bad idea but you can make a lot of toons work without both.

I have played plenty of toons without it, all the way into incarnate T3s.  They all work without it.  Hasten amplifies your DPS, but you don't usually need that level of DPS to perform at +4/8 level.  Now, whether or not you still enjoy playing the character without it (I do, but that's just me) is entirely subjective to the individual.

Claws Scrapper and anything which has fast cast times. or lower recharge times. Recharge can easily be added outside of Hasten and more so with Incarnates. It's mostly for long recharges, waiting to perma something, or specific attack chains.

I rarely build with Hasten - typically I'll only take it if I can make it perma without sacrifices elsewhere. To my mind, if I can hit 70% global recharge through set bonii and AT powers, that's the equivalent value Hasten gives anyway so it seems good enough.

Combine that with an armor set like willpower, that literally has nothing that benefits from hasten.   Unless you really plan to spam the self rez I guess. 😄

I'm guessing that roughly one-third of my characters do have Hasten... often Controllers, or Defenders that might need to spam a single heal (Thermal Radiation, for example).

My two favorite no-Hasten characters are my Crab Spider (tanky, no pets) and my Force Field / Beam Rifle Defender. Force Field is mostly toggles, and Beam Rifle is all about combining different attacks, not spamming the biggest one.

I have a bio/savage tanker that's really fun to play.  My fire/regen sentinel is also quite good, as is my kin/sonic defender.  None of them have hasten, (though the tanker has the inherent boost from the attacks and the kin has siphon speed).

After years of preparation by studying martial arts and teaching disaster management, Sean realized that the real disaster was ongoing and on the streets. It's so useful a power and it's so low cost (only one power pick from a pool, only one additional slot to put in, and even that isn't necessary).

I would *love* to see them swap Hasten and Whirlwind in the Speed Pool.  Make Hasten require two Speed picks as a prerequisite.  I'd put that in Suggestions but then the other half of you would /gignore me.

I remember a year or so ago.

A person suggested that they remove hasten and just give a flat XX% recharge bonus to everyone, because hasten had become seemingly essential to most builds.

Oh my god. It's like they had suggest people should eat they children and pets. Folks were downright nasty.

I remember that.  For most of my characters I wouldn't have a problem with it.  It'd even improve some that already have another click that'd be nice to put on auto instead of hasten (like shield users).  But a few (like my illusion controllers), it'd make life very difficult for them, personally anyway.  I'd probably end up abandoning those.  Assuming the flat % wasn't close to 70% anyway, I think I remember something like 20 or 30% was suggested.

One major issue with the proposal is that, while it would be great for non-regen DPS toons, it would not work well for Control or Support sets.

A build without Hasten is like a burger without cheese.  Sure you can do it but why would you?  Even if I had an allergy that might kill me I'd still take Hasten.

With a buff to the Pri/Sec +Rech powers, of course? So that they aren't equaled by a pool power? ^_^

Death is the best debuff.

Hasten is a good power. It is useful in many builds. However, it is not necessary and not optimal in many builds. Furthermore, it takes away your green ring, which is exceptionally useful in many builds. In fact, freeing up the green ring alone can make dropping it worthwhile.

Considering how powerful it is, it really makes sense.

However, making that change would cause thousands of characters to need to respec!

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

One of my favorite blasters is a water/time who doesn't use hasten.  She still has high cooldown reduction.  Only thing I don't use typically in many builds are procs; I prefer having more defense and benefits.  This is also due to uncertainty of the future of procs that I prefer not over-relying on them;

Hasten and procs are sacrificed in favor of effectively every other category a blaster could have.  Granted this build lacks CC from temporal, but except in hamidon encounters in lady grey it isn't as important.  Low damage resistance also, this just leads to me carefully monitoring health while I blast away.  This is actually fairly common in my builds, high defense and leadership, low damage resistances and a tendency to not over-invest in procs.  Hasten is usually only an extra; cooldown and feel for powers and how much of a difference it makes is what decides if I skip it.

If hasten only removes a few seconds from a key power like say, my T9, then I won't bother with it.  This build has 112.5% cooldown reduction global without hasten, and uses agility for higher endurance recovery and defense.

My seismic/temporal manip blaster though is cooldown reduction to the maximum, so hasten is a clear pick.

Weirdly enough, I find myself more and more NOT taking hasten, since it ends up being overkill on a lot of builds.

Like. Remember that your powers HAVE animation times. Most take about 1 second or so (some less, some more) so, lets say your attack chain is 4 attacks. That adds up to (generally speaking) 4 seconds from start to finish.

You kinda just need to get those powers to a recharge time where 4~ seconds is how long you need to wait for them to come back. You can do that pretty easily with SOs or IOs or what have you, like, unless they have a particularly LONG cooldown (1min or more).

It's THOSE powers where you want to look at hasten and go "ok, yes, your power is needed now".

But, if you want a build that doesnt even touch hasten, my Street Justice/Super Reflexes stalker hits like a fucking bus, can solo AVs no problem, and I quite literally never, ever have a want for hasten -- nothing I have needs it. The ONLY thing is like... Elude, and Build Up. For the former, just slot recharge speed in it for the latter, one of the class IO set offers a proc that will INSTANTLY reset Build Up. If you DONT want to spend money on that though? Kinetic Melee can sub in for Street Justice and that has a BUILT IN way to automatically recharge build up.

If stalker isnt your thing though, I have a Kinetics/Sonic Defender who only has Hasten because I wanted Whirlwind and didnt have a use for Flurry. He's at 43 right now, has a whopping 3 attacks from Sonic, and im always casting SOMETHING between recharges, Im always DOING something in the time between attacks (usually less than a second or two). Im NEVER waiting for an attack, Im NEVER wishing something was off cooldown NOW as opposed to later.

If Ranged DPS is more your style, I highly recomend Rock/Ninja blaster. Much of what I've said applies here -- im ALWAYS casting SOMETHING, so I never really WANT for Haste.

I use Hasten frequently.  My Empaths and Controllers love it, they love high levels of global recharge for their long recharge powers.  That said they'd survive without it, probably quite well.  It's just a very powerful tool for very cheap.  My Claws/SR, Main of mains, primary build lacks Hasten and no travel power.  My AR/Dev blaster lacked Stamina but had Hasten.  My Empaths have it but to a certain extent that's a Legacy or pre-IO requirement of the SG (Green Machine).  You needed Hasten to make the mechanics of the team work.  Or rather you needed a certain level of recharge that Hasten provided. But that was pre-IO, with IOs getting that level of global recharge is relatively easy so not really needed for that purpose anymore.  Used to be you needed 3 Empaths to really hit peak performance, now you barely need two to generate similar levels of buffs and that's mostly because Empaths can't really buff themselves in particular with the t9 Adrenaline Boost as well as Fortitude and Clear Mind.
