arcane Posted December 4 Posted December 4 I have powersets where I’ve got the set at 50 several times over. I know I have 5 Storms… 6 Poisons… 8 Ice Blasts I think? Etc.
Jacke Posted December 4 Posted December 4 When I decided to redo my Praetorian Toons, I decided I would make a Praetorian version of my main, AR/Devices Blaster. Just created this morning. Surprised I didn't think of this before. Remember! Let's be careful out there! catsi563 Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Oh yeah well in a way Im very theme oriented and my characters match this So Ive got Panda all dark dark dark combos Bale Fire alll fire fire fire combos and a few others here and there matching a theme such as sonic or water or storm or ice powers My Dear you deserve the services of a great wizard but youll have to settle for the aid of a second rate pick pocket ~Schmendrick So you mean you'll put down your rock, and I'll put down my sword; and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?
Greycat Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Which powersets I use are defined by concept, so yeah, I've done this. And I've run into them being more fun on one AT vs another - I don't care overmuch about numbers, but (for instance) my Staff/WP Brute gets a lot more play than the Staff/WP Scrapper, who just feels... "eh" on a roughly equal build. (Of course, and not quite the same thing, I've done a "same pairing, different AT" for some... obviously an elec/elec brute is going to play much differently than an elec/elec blaster or controller. And some you can't do - there's no illusion melee or illusion armor, for instance.) Wait, did you mean same primary and secondary or just same of one either primary or secondary cause that's a whole different bag of chicken. Because I have five DP of various flavors not including the two previously referenced same/same that went to bit bucket. Similarly there are several other flavors of same but different. Girls of Nukem High - Excelsior - Tempus Fabulous, Flattery, Jennifer Chilly, Betty Beatdown, Totally Cali, Two Gun Trixie Babes of War - Excelsior - High Beam (Yay), Di Di Guns, Runeslinger, Munitions Mistress, Tideway, Hard Melody, Blue Aria Many alts and lots of fun. JKCarrier Posted December 4 Posted December 4 I'm sure I've repeated a couple of powersets that I used back on Live (including a couple of cases where I specifically tried to re-create a character I had back then). But I don't think I've doubled up on anything here on Homecoming. I'm not opposed to the idea, but right now I'm having fun trying out new ones. --- 64453 - This Was Your Life? - An AE arc that lets you relive your hero's greatest triumphs! Aracknight Posted December 4 Posted December 4 I have Martial Arts and Super Reflexes on a Scrapper, Brute, Stalker, and Tanker. I've been playing this pairing since before alignment switching was allowed, the Scrapper and the Stalker on live. They all have similar builds when possible. For the record, while tanking is a new (for me) playstyle and Bruting is....interesting, I still like the Scrapper best.
Doomguide2005 Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Yes I've done multiples of the same set on the same AT. Specifically I have a bunch of Empaths mostly defenders and some corruptors. But at least on HC the blast set paired with Empathy has not been duplicated within a single character. Eventually I'll likely have one of every blast set paired with Empathy. Likewise I have several Earth controllers all of whom have differing secondaries. I've have several SR across several ATs, though the GRETA variants unlike on Live consist of just one though likely I'll do up one of each armored AT with Claws at some point.
Uncle Shags Posted December 5 Posted December 5 Yes, and even back to back! I made a fire/ax tank looking to try out the cyclone burn combo. He was super fun and got knee deep into incarnates but I decided the survival was overkill and wanted more damage. So I immediately started leveling an ax/fire scrapper. Again, super fun, and I enjoyed the increased damage.
COH Radgen Posted December 5 Posted December 5 At some point after I recreated and leveled the Kin/Fire 'troller I had on live, I decided to flip the script and made a Fire/Kin 'corruptor...same power sets but obviously plays VERY differently. And both VERY fun and effective (aside from those uncontrollable fire monkeys on a sugar high!). Sometime later, I decided to try something similar, a Ice/Dark dom and a Dark/Ice corruptor. These I did back to back and deliberately didn't take the pets so I could more directly compare the control vs the damage from each build. I did much the same with an Ice/Ice dom and a Cold/Ice corruptor. Of course, I have a number of Invul/ and /Invul because...why wouldn't I? Only one is paired with SS, the rest are all varied in the damage powersets and all of them are good fun and very survivable as you'd expect from a solid Invul build. I don't have as many alts as some here on the forums but I generally take them to 50 and incarnate abilities and fully build them out before with going back to run one of the others or, sigh, getting inflicted with a fresh round of altitis to start the cycle all over again. @Radgen Mostly on Torch and Ex

SeraphimKensai Posted December 6 Posted December 6 I have 3x Necro/Dark MMs at lvl 50, that I like to run all at the same time. I just built a Necro/MM a few months ago that's 50 and I really like that one too, so maybe I make more? Individual power sets I reuse a lot.

I have multiple character ideas that utilize the same defensive set. For those that have done this, does this impact the fun of the leveling experience? You're asking a subjective question, really. Whether our answers match what you consider to be fun/enjoyable may be different for us. But yes, I've made multiples over the years. 1. Sometimes to see how a leveling progression has changed due to game changes. 2. Sometimes due to just wanting to play the leveling progression experience again or leveling through an event(as the two can be vastly different (ie mapserve and halloween). 3. Sometimes to flesh out accounts 2 and 3. 4. Sometimes to impose a challenge or use variations of primary/secondary sets/pools for other play goals. 5. An aesthetics concept. And the list goes on. Leveling in the game on HC makes replayability in the most fundamental sense very easy once one knows how and how to fund it's progression.

It was three years apart, and the character concepts were very funny to me, but I don't even like the powerset combo that much. Yup, that's how I roll. 🤪 A very excellent pairing. I have a couple of them too I think a lot can be learned playing the same powers across ATs and also with different pools, and slotting. It's potentially a lot of fun but for me the power sets have to be ones I really enjoy regardless. There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.
Jiro Ito Posted December 7 Posted December 7 (edited) I do have other duplicates of powersets (lots of fire and ice blast, nature affinity, invulnerability, shield defense, storm summoning), but if I'm paying attention, I'll switch up the pairings and archetypes. Techhead Posted December 8 Posted December 8 I sorta did something similar with having a "cycle" of characters in different ATs with the same general power theme: Agent Brewer - Martial/Electric scrapper Agent Tanner - Electric/Martial blaster Agent Cooper - Crab spider (odd one out, also villain) Agent Porter - Pistol/Electric sentinal (I really like the pistol animatons) Agent Fowler - Electric/Martial dominator Agent Sawyer - Electric/Reflex brute I think I've covered my bases unless I come up with a defender/corrupter combo that I think fits, but we'll see 1
Mjolnerd Posted December 9 Posted December 9 (edited) I'm generally a "concept first, build second" person so it's going to happen eventually, but so far I've avoided directly remaking the exact same thing in terms of AT/primary/secondary. I've come close, though -- I have an Invuln/SS tanker and a SS/Invuln brute, I have an Invuln/EM tanker and an EM/Invuln scrapper, that kind of thing. Mopery Posted December 9 Posted December 9 (edited) Some powersets are just too good to not take again, even though I have actively tried not to make the same AT Primary/Secondary thing twice. Usually the character concept I have demands certain powersets, and I have literally hundreds of alts, so sometimes I forget and repeat the same AT with the same powersets. cranebump Posted December 9 Posted December 9 Haven’t done what the OP mentioned, but I could see myself running every variation of Archery on different toons (and putting them all in the same SG-Bowhaven). Force Redux Posted December 9 Posted December 9 I don't mind having the same power sets on different archetypes. Greldek Posted December 13 Posted December 13 I have several scrappers with the same power sets. I see someone else play something and think "oh ts looks fun!" Then go roll one, level it to 20s or 30s or 40s or even 50, then forget about it, and do it again later.
Lusiphur Malache Posted December 14 Posted December 14 I fell down a Soldier of Arachnos hole awhile back and now I have 3 Soldiers and 3 Widows each has 2 builds going down separate trees. I know there's some duplication between them cause power choices are so limited, but I never play more than one a week, so I don't notice.
MrAxe Posted December 14 Posted December 14 I try not to. I like all toons to be totally new. I've only done it once because it was unavoidable.
