havoc93 Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 I have a fire/fire blaster and I mostly play in mission groups. Anytime I do my AoEs (fireball, fire breath, rain of fire, combustion, fire sword circle) I get so much aggro almost instatly and then I die. I was wondering since hes not that high lvl should i just make a sentinel to have some more survivability? Or am I not supposed to go so hard with the AoE?
Novacat Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 Are you waiting for the Tank to pick up the aggro properly? If things aren't taunted, they're going to turn to you on the spot with that sort of output, guaranteed. Blasters depend on two things: Targets dying before you die, or someone eating the aggro up for you (punchvokes at the very least). If you're confident in your area attacks brutalizing most of the target group, then you can alpha-strike as the tank/brute/dwarfform jumps in. Otherwise you need to give them a few seconds to take everyone's interest away. SOME will still turn to you as there are target limits to things like area taunts too (and sometimes with two spawns getting aggroed at a time, well, you get the idea) and those you need to kill ASAP.
Adeon Hawkwood Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 Overall it sounds like you're going a bit to hard with the AoEs, especially for a lower level. Fire/Fire blasters have excellent AoE but they are also likely to strip aggro if they use them indiscriminately so some care is required, especially at lower levels. Try holding back a bit and using your single target attacks to kill a Lt at the start of the fight to give the other characters (especially Brutes or Tankers) time to grab aggro before you open up with the AoEs. In particular don't immediately close in to use Combustion and Greater Fire Sword, those should be used later in the fight. The main thing to remember is that low level blasters are very fragile so some caution is required when using AoEs. At higher levels this will start to drop off when the melee characters start getting better at holding aggro and the support characters have more access to defense buffs (a Fire/Fire Blaster with Fortitude is terrifying). If you want a more survivable character you might also want to consider a Fire/Fire Dominator. They get their AoE attacks later than Blasters but they combine good fire AoEs (especially if you grab the fire ancillary pool) and can lock down their foes to reduce incoming damage. Defender Smash!
Atomitor Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Fire fire fire blaster.either everything dies or you die, that's why they give us a self res. Seriously though till you get a bit tougher jump in pbaoe jump out with a high pitched scream shouting "too much aggro" through your tank mates taunt aura and breaking line of sight. Combat jumping will help with this. You will still die though, that's the price you pay for being am aoe dps beast 1 Indomitable server Atomitor, Tarquin, Atomito, Daltron, Fusebox and more tbc

Murcielago Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Fire/Fire = damage god but also dead damage god. /Fire has always been squishy.
Generator Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 IIRC, /Fire's Blazing Aura power provides a HOT to the user now. I hope you're using that.
Darkredwing Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 Does anyone have an actual build for Fire/fire? I can't seem to find one atm.
Kysmelly69 Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 ive had vague memories of having an OP fire/fire blaster. I cant for the life me remember what the build was. it was solely based on kill everything before i get killed though. Im sure that doesnt help lol

DocRadio Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 I played a Fire/Fire/Fire to level 50 in the old days. Gotta tell ya... Until you get your mastery powers life if going to suck, because the fire primary and secondary offer next to no control. No mitigation whatsoever. Once I got fire mastery things changed. I got a hold, a pretty good knock back for area control, smash lethal and fire resistance from fire shield, and a self-rez for those time when shit got real. Until then, You're pure damage and nothing else. You're going to have to play smart. It's doable and fun... but damn.... the faceplants. Can't wait to get the game reinstalled so I can use insta snipes and crashless inferno.
DocRadio Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 IIRC, /Fire's Blazing Aura power provides a HOT to the user now. I hope you're using that. Whoa... I might have to re-think my decision to never use the fire secondary ever again.
MunkiLord Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Combat jumping will help with this. I think Combat Jumping might be the only power I take on literally every hero. Not Hasten or Stamina(before it was inherent), but Combat Jumping. I don't think this power gets enough love. The Trevor Project
RikOz Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 I'm going through this with my fire/fire blaster right now. She's a recreation of my "main" that I had before the shutdown in 2012, and she was the only character I got to level 50. Very, very fragile at low levels. I'm still only to level 13, so I die frequently. But I remember that, at higher levels, once I have more abilities and more power, most enemies are going to melt under my attacks long before they can harm me. I just need to be patient. Also, I'm playing entirely solo, not doing group content.
OEM61 Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 My old fire/fire/fire blaster planned on using Rise of the Phoenix as part of their offensive strategy. Death was a way of life. 1
Troyusrex Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 I'm at lvl 50 with 17+ veteran's levels, full set of Incarnate slots (half 3s half 4s) and a few Purple IOs (albeit not fully slotted up yet) all focused on max AOE DoT. It is GLORIOUS and well worth the difficulties at lower levels. Huge groups go down in flames around me and I solo with difficulty set for an 8 person team (and would LOVE to go higher if they had it!!!) But even now faceplants aren't uncommon. If I misjudge my placement on my nova, Pyronic Core Radial Judgement or fireball/firebreath/etc.. then I can go down fast and hard. Some things that help are 1) Fire shield from the fire mastery set, 2) tough/weave 3) using IO sets to enhance resistance and defense 4) Knockdown defense from abilites or IOs 5) status resistance/protection from abilities ad IOs. But what's MOST effective, especially when soloing, is inspirations. Suck them down like candy, take on a huge group and your inspiration tray will be almost full again. (I'm set not to get Rezzes and I often convert heals and energy defense or to to-hit and attack). I would call Fire/Fire/Fire a great veteran build for players who want a wild ride while being the absolute best AOE damage dealer.
Troyusrex Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 I've been playing a bunch of alts and I just have to say that my fire/fire/fire/pyronic blaster is a complete MONSTER. I need to get HeroStats up so I can show just how effective he is with actual data, but even in ITF people are amazed at the damage I'm dealing. Even now I still face plant occasionally. Not often, but enough that I haven't respeced out RotP. I feel like Jaffar "the POWER! The absolute POWER!" (and, yes, I know it doesn't work out well for him).
oedipus_tex Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 You'll want to spend time in the air with Hover or a similar power when faced with enemies who can punch hard. You lose some DPS but its worth it if you are otherwise being one-shot. It's particularly the case around levels 30-45 when enemies hit extremely hard and the team isn't fully prepared to deal with it yet. Slot the Fire PBAoE aura power for Healing and Recovery as soon as possible. Luckily the Blaster Fire tertiary set is very strong, offering Bonfire, Rise of the Phoenix, and Fire Shield. Spend 2 million influence or so to turn Bonfire into a knockdown patch. Then you'll have one of the best control powers in the game and should be far more survivable. You'll want to try to get Bonfire before Hot Feet or Burn if you can get the proc.
Sakai Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Named mine RezzPls and have hitv27. Having great fun. For whatever reason I am always surprised when she dies. Appears to be turning into a blapper of sorts. Quick question....does Rain of Fire have a fear element baked in?
HelenCarnate Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Yes it does, or at the least the mobs do what they can to get out of the AOE area unless they are taunted or held/imob. While it makes it a bit of a pain to have your other AoEs hit as many mobs as possible, it works as a soft control to slow down incoming damage.
Sakai Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Ooh that's a handy tip. Thanks HelenCarnate. Great name by the way.
Destlin Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Nobody in this forum is ever going to tell you to roll a sent over a blaster and if dying isn't your thing /fire is not for you. If you are wanting to stick to a blaster maybe /ice as it is very survivable. If you are wanting to stick to a theme of fire/fire then a sentinel might be the right choice.
Hyperstrike Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 (edited) Yeah. I used to have that problem with my Fire/Fire. I'd go into a mission with two Tanks. They'd engage, draw aggro, and then I'd come in. This would basically rip all their aggro away and cause the groups to Alpha me... And I had a nice, ultra-high recharge, perma-sniper... ...who couldn't seem to stop noshing floor... So I rebuilt along the lines of something like this.
