I don't play much these days and want to thank Homecoming for all they've done. This will be the first month, in a long time, that I won't be donating. My brother has put my elderly parents in financial ruin and I have to help as much as I can. It has caused a lot of hardship and problems.

Completely disagree with the OP. Power creep? complaining about the XP/farming/PL? I don't really see what you mean by power creep - it seems we all have different ideas on this. The rest? I am quite sure that was there on Live. You may not have seen it because you could go to different servers and the players were spread out more than here. I feel HC is close to Live. Hence why I prefer it. Having said that, I don't play much because there is some CoH fatigue so maybe a break is where I'm at. This game feels the same and seems like it is on a path that is similar to where Live would have gone (Live would likely have had more innovative stuff since they were paid etc). HC could be much more but there is a lack of innovation and originality but I can't complain - it's a volunteer crew. I appreciate them! Anyway, OP, maybe you need a break?

Good news:new players. Bad news: horrid positrons

Dear HC Team, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year 2023, and more!
BurtHutt replied to CU_Krow's topic in General Discussion
I have to add a thanks as well. I don't play as much as I did when I found HC but I do still log in once in a while. The HC team is the most impressive our of the servers I've experienced. Happy Holidays! -
A Discussion on the State of Development Regarding Gold Side

I agree for the most part. And yes, they are volunteers. I am grateful that they're doing this. However, if you want to run this game and have players then it is essential that the players have a say. Otherwise players won't play here or they may have a lot leave. And that is fine too. All I'm saying is if you ignore the players then the result will probably be negative.- 34 replies

A few weeks ago (when Syn was the WST) I was on a PUG. It was the worst team I've ever run with. Ever. Most of the team wouldn't communicate and the leader didn't take charge. It wasn't going well and someone dropped quickly. A bit late another guy quits. Neither said a thing (I put them on my ignore list). For some sad reason I stuck it out and it took just shy of 4 hours. I don't like to quit on teams unless there's no chance of finishing. Even then I will communicate something to the team. I am not a fan of people disappearing.

Back on Live, I'd read some of the stories when I tried some stuff solo. When you team, it is tough to do so. I'll also admit I don't really have much desire to read the stories again - some I've never read. I prefer the comments in caption boxes that appear on screen. This way the team doesn't get slowed down and you have the option to read the materials. Maybe this is why I don't really like much of the newer stuff?

I really dislike that style where you add an x around the name or a hyphen in front or a period somewhere. Looks silly. I said it before but giving each account 1000 slots was a mistake. The name policy change may help that and I think it's the only way to go. I am quite certain a ton of names are just being sat on and not being used. I'm not getting back into the way I'd like to see the name policy tweaked and this is good enough. So, when does this new name policy start?

I don't know if I'd consider red side dead or at least in the same context as gold. Red often has players in it. I think blue radio missions and the like are thriving especially at 50. If you can't get a team committed to a trial or tf/sf, the next big thing is radios (I think). I had a toon just ding 50 and it's a bit of a different take on my usual toon style. I couldn't log on until odd hours for the last bit and there has been small amounts of players on and even then we had radios rolling. Sadly, even at 50, there isn't a ton of radio and contact mission stuff. It started getting repetitive lol...you can blow through most missions with a well equipped 50. So, yeah, radios, maybe tip missions are also busy. I would add Summer Block Buster and Death From Below as also thriving.

WTF is kings day?! The idea of kings and queens in this day in age is rather sickening. -
A Discussion on the State of Development Regarding Gold Side
BurtHutt replied to Wiseheart's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I can't see anything being done with Goldside. Honestly, it was an awful idea in my opinion for a variety of reasons but the biggest reason: it divided the playerbase yet again. When Going Rogue came out, the game had lost a lot of players. Sure, tons came back for GR but, obviously, didn't stay. I wouldn't even try to provide all of the possible explanations but bottom line: the player population continued to falter after the GR bump. What to do now? I don't know. Most players don't go Goldside too often. Dev resources are limited and there is no way they can add tons of content let alone address gold, blue and red. Suggestions: 1) Lots of new content be added in co-op zones. Maybe make The Hollows co-op? So content could be added to Pocket D, RWZ, Cim, Kalisti Wharf etc. So, any new SF/TF/trials etc be accessed by all players. 2) Leverage the players to use AE to make arcs for each side. The devs can't keep up with demand and this is my suggestion to help implement more content for all sides. I can't see the devs prioritizing Gold when so few play it. I am curious to hear how others would like to address the limited resources issue. I know I keep beating the AE/player made content and lots are in support...but nothing has happened with it in the almost 3 years I've been suggesting it....are there other options peeps would like to suggest?- 34 replies

Interesting question. For me it was making your super come to life - so to speak. Making them look a lot like what you envisioned and then creating new toons etc. This is my fave part. I was happy the game came back. I never played an MMO before and this one really did it for me. During Live, the community also did it for me too. The community in HC is much smaller so it's different now and I haven't made too many solid connections - but I have made some! I still see this game as fun to play but the play time is a lot lower these days. It's very repetitive and it's been a couple years since I found HC. I must thank the HC team once again for all of their hard work. The devs can't keep up with demand but I think they do a great job. The quality of the items pushed out here is on par with the Live team. I didn't find any other games to replace CoX. I'm not really a gamer. I was out and about and doing non-game things. When the pandemic lockdowns hit, CoX was there to save the day...so to speak! I still log on from time to time and play a bit here and there. I will add some of the excitement is building toons that are different than what I've normally done (using different pools, maybe using a bit of a proc mechanic to alter playstyle etc). Finally, I am hoping to see the devs add some costume pieces/sets and my biggest ask is using AE and the community to create game content (yes, the same idea I've been asking for in many other threads 🙂 )

So does anyone know why HC doesn't add costume pieces/sets? I see patterns being added - did I miss some pieces? Is it because they don't have the right staff to make costume sets? Just curious. We have so much so I'm not too concerned but more curious. I will say the under arm wings are awesome (wherever they may be from).

I don't know how much work it is to proliferate the powers - if it is a lot then I am ok if they aren't proliferated. I also feel it would allow that AT to be a bit unique. I'd rather see time and effort spent on new powers and other additions to the game. I like the efforts made to create new powers and add some somewhat original twists to them.

I'm a fan of Brutes. It seems Tanks are getting a bit more damage and a bit more AoE so I might be sliding towards the dark side.... I also am wondering if anyone can tell me if they are liking the revamped Axe set for Brutes? What did you pair it with? Have a build? As far as fave Brute....tough call...maybe my Titan/Bio?
-
I usually use a handful of pools. It's standard to get Hasten, Boxing/Tough/Weave, Maneuvers and maybe even Combat Jumping. I've strayed on the odd toon to try out these other pools (Sorcery, Will and just taking a look at Experimentation). I've used a few others here and there. None of these are game breakers or must haves and I don't think they're supposed to be. I guess they're a fun little add to your toon and give you some variety. I still don't get why we don't have other sets like Utility Belt and so on.

Almost all of my toons are vigilantes. I prefer red side but the pop. is small so I am doing blue stuff. But when there's a call to red, I am there! Also, I like to team. Therefore, Vig provides for the most flexibility and opportunity to team.

Do you care about arcs or just missions?

Tons of people play these missions - they're quick and fun. They're a lot like the paper/radio missions. -

BurtHutt replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
I don't care about arcs or details to them, really. Sometimes I'll read parts on the wiki. If I'm in a mission, I will read the material in caption boxes and word bubbles that flashes on the screen. Also if I'm talking to an NPC, of course. I don't solo and I don't have much desire to try and read everything when teaming. This is part of the reason why I don't like the Aeon SF and other missions where it's a flood of text. -
Hey so how would you all rank the new Axe set compared to other tank secondaries? It it near the top now? I am thinking of making an Axe toon but can't decide if it should be a tank/brute/scrapper and what to pair Axe with. Any thoughts?

Officially Unofficial Weekly Discussion #3: Praetoria
BurtHutt replied to SeraphimKensai's topic in General Discussion
A few have noted the theme environment of the Gold side. I didn't even think to comment on this but I should. I thought it was dumb. We're in a superhero game and this angle is fine but it became too much. It was a major part of the game and theme. I really hated how all of the signature characters had their alternate versions. I got tired of it. It seemed a lot of the game had big influences from the fantasy/D&D type stuff, which is fine, but it also got to be a bit much. The HC team is too small and not paid so I'm not expecting anything massive to come out. Overall, I'd say the Live devs really whiffed on Going Rogue/Rouge. A ton of time, effort and resources and the result was really meh. Such a shame. Yes, Goldside is ok and I will journey there for some of the missions but that's about it. I see it as a wasted opportunity.- 50 replies
