Are alternate powers within powersets possible?
Grouchybeast replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Water Blast is so easy to recolour that I keep being tempted to use it whenever it's available for a new character, even though I usually try to avoid repeating powersets. I already have a cow-themed character with Milk Blast, and a clockwork waitress character with Cocktail Blast. -
IIRC, power customization was never considered to be impossible because of code constraints. It was simply too time-consuming, because of the sheer number of power files that needed to be rewritten. It happened in the end because someone worked out a way to automate most of the process, which brought down the dev-hours required to a reasonable amount.

I won a Ring Mistress costume in a costume comp, and you bet I turn it on whenever I'm on a team fighting Carnies :-)

In the past I would've probably said leave it, but now that the Origin pools exist, and will hopefully be filled out to the full complement, I think opening it up to five pools would be a good idea. Unlimited? Maybe, but we could start with five and see how it goes.

Since we're proposing silly inf sink badge ideas, how about one for opening various numbers of Winter/ATO packs?
-
I still think that re-enabling SG Prestige purely for bragging rights would be a wonderful inf sink. No effect on bases, just a league table of the top prestige groups on each server.

In MMOs, burning money for the sake of burning money is probably the purest prosocial market activity that exists.

My assumption would be that they wouldn't want to complicate their position by using code where someone other than NCSoft or Homecoming owns the copyright. Of course, that wouldn't stop them creating a similar idea in their own code if they decided they liked it (as they did with, IIRC, asymmetric costume parts).

The real solution here isn't to remove the listing fee (which improves market liquidity by discouraging delisting) but instead to fix the damn AH display bugs so people can see an accurate price in the first place.

Why Extensive changes to Existing Popular Power Sets?
Grouchybeast replied to Taboo's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I had no idea Sir Humphrey Appleby played on Homecoming. -
The server status page illustrates this nicely: 1986 players, and 951 map instances.

Eh? I don't assume that at all. I assume that people who enjoy teaming team, and people who enjoy soloing solo, and people who enjoy speeding TFs speed TFs, and people who enjoy kill-all TFs run kill-all TF, and people who enjoy AE fire farms run AE fire farms, and people who enjoy marketing market, and people who enjoy roleplaying roleplay, and people who enjoy PVP PVP, and people who enjoy a mix of all those enjoy a mix of all those. The game supports a huge variety of playstyles that different players enjoy, and any end-game should do the same -- the exact reason that the mandatory teaming of the Incarnate system caused so many complaints when it was introduced. Incidentally, the idea that CoX 'forces' people to farm AE is simply inaccurate. Playing the game in a completely 'normal' fashion provides more than enough resources to outfit characters. I've never farmed, and nor have many other players.

This bit interested me. Why do you think it's important to pressure people into playing the game in a way that they don't enjoy in order to participate in this new endgame? Why do you think this will help with player retention?

Does your model take into account the actual enhancement values of the IOs on the power? At the moment it's producing some VERY odd choices, like two-slotting Disintegrate, and putting non-damage sets into Lancer Shot and Cutting Beam. With Lancer Shot and five slots of Rope-a-Dope, you're getting a Resistance bonus of 1.5% Fire/Cold and 3% S/L in exchange for having no damage enhancement at all. Even if you put a generic Damage IO into a sixth slot, you'd only get a 42.5% damage bonus. If you'd six slotted with Thunderstrike instead, you'd hit ED on the Damage AND get 3.75% Ranged Def AND get 3.75% Energy/Negative Def AND get a 7% global acc bonus. For Lancer Shot, the Mids values for damage look like this: 5 slots of Rope-a-Dope: 159.2 5 slots of Rope-a-Dope + level 50 Dam IO: 226.2 6 slots of Thunderstrike: 320.6 That's a lot to give up for a tiny bit of Res! ETA: I just noticed that it's also slotted your nuke with Analyze Weakness, another non-damage set! Bad model, no biscuit! ETA 2: I think that to be useful as a way to actually generate a sensible starting point for a build, the model needs a fundamental change to prioritize the actual slotting values, and only then look at IO bonuses. So, for example, if the set doesn't add damage to a Moderate/High/Extreme damage power, then the model shouldn't even be considering it unless the power already had good damage slotting from a damage set.

Unfortunately, I don't think they the collective community is every likely to be very interested in dying (or at least sitting with no IOs) on the hill of paying 1 inf for common salvage versus 100 or 1000 inf. 1 v 100 v 1000 doesn't mean a whole lot when you can sell a couple of level 50 common IO recipes and buy enough white salvage to completely IO out a character.

Does Fold Space work vertically? That would be awesome on my hover blaster. "It's raining minions, hallelujah!" -
My wish would go further than that, and be to remove all Incarnate slots except Alpha from the game. Alpha can keep its level shift, but it only applies in Incarnate content. Then: rebalance the Incarnate trials to take into account the lack of higher slots, stop threads and incarnate XP dropping in the normal game, get rid of the Vet level thread and Emp rewards, and rework the Shadow Shard to be a second Incarnate zone along the lines of DA, with soloable Incarnate arcs.

The problem with removing Training Enhancements
Grouchybeast replied to Tigraine's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I think the only way to get them now it to deliberately put a vendor in a base and buy them. Them not dropping any more is the core of @Tigraine's complaint. That said, I don't think I've ever slotted TOs, since I started playing in I13. I guess I've thrown in an occasional accuracy if I noticed I had one. The bonuses on them are so pathetic, and even back then you out-levelled them so fast I never saw the point. -
To accurately represent my main, her big trick would be a debuff that suddenly reverses the team's controls, causing them to move in completely the wrong direction and crash into a wall. (I admit, more of a PEBCAK issue than my poor main's fault.) The big spectacular damage attack would be a Rise of the Phoenix-alike.

"The Game is not Balanced around IO's"..... should it be?
Grouchybeast replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in General Discussion
And a sort of tacked-on afterthought of a set of training wheels at that, reluctantly provided to offer a limited solo path to shut up the complaints. "Hey, guys, we took a historically extremely solo-friendly MMO and added a grindy end-game that required endless repetitive teaming. This is the greatest idea ever! Guys? Guys? Why are you so mad at us?" -
Returning Player, help me choose who to play

I don't have opinions on those combos, I'm afraid, but I do love your costumes.
