Less restrictive Power Pools & additional enhancement slots
TheZag replied to Raikao's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I would be more inclined to say a vocal minority keeps bringing it up and another vocal minority keeps shooting it down - not that people want it and a vocal minority shoots it down. Ultimately, it doesnt matter if the player base is convinced or not, only the devs need to be convinced. The devs have mentioned that they strive to keep the feel of the original game while homecoming servers are moving in a different but similar direction as the retail servers. Some larger core changes have been made such as the levels that primary and secondary powers become available. Even this was done for a reason - the devs wanted a new primary/secondary power to be available every time for a power pick and not force players to pick a pool power at some point. Ive noticed that the devs like data. Bring the numbers for why a core mechanic should be changed and they will probably be more likely to consider it. I can say if i had 2 more slots then i will have 2 more set bonuses and 4 slots means i will have 4 more set bonuses. There is alot of stuff that gets missed out on because a build is a few slots short - i could swap out an orange set for a purple set to get the better values and another 10% recharge and pick up the lost defense with 2 of the slots and use the other 2 slots for tactics which i can now pick because i dont need boxing anymore. And thats just what i would do, other players are even more efficient with builds. But with a whole bunch of data that shows how that wont happen or wouldnt throw the game even more out of balance, my guess is the devs will take notice. If the majority of players wanted sandbox mode, they would play on the test server with instant 50 and free everything. Sure the test server may get wiped on occasion but with instant and free, we could have everything back. There has to be something stopping people from wanting free and instant. My guess is even though its easy, people still want to earn it. -
I may have suggested this myself or maybe just replied to a previous suggestion on this topic. I even tried to make a super base mockup of a design until i found that im absolutely horrible at base building and gave up on that part of the idea. I would be in support of a fallen heroes memorial but i realize now that upkeep of a changing list of players and avatars would be extremely time consuming. A 1 time build with fallen NPC statues and a history marker that has a generic 'this is devoted to our fallen heroes' message could work so it doesnt need constant maintenance. And in those rarer instances that a player is to be memorialized ingame, their avatar could start in the memorial for those who wish to pay their respects before the avatar is moved to its permanent location in the city.

Abyss and Hive hami do share the same reward timer. Ive ran both on the same character on the same day and the rewards were locked out.

Nice costume! (too bad it won't be around long)
TheZag replied to cranebump's topic in General Discussion
Offended and offensive are different. My sister was offended when my brother offered her career advice but that doesnt make it offensive and mean nobody can offer anyone career advice ever again. It may mean some names, while generally considered to be in poor taste, may be deemed ok while others that are meant as a punny joke get generic'd. -
Even if the game calls it a profanity filter, it filters a whole bunch of stuff that isnt profanity. Most of that is things i prefer to not have to explain to my kids before a certain age. A friend of the family had their 8 year old come home from another friends house and ask if her parents could explain some explicit things she heard but didnt understand. Turns out an older child had 'the talk' and felt she could drop that info on anyone. The game is rated teen, even if it isnt retail anymore, and the filter does a pretty good job at keeping chat in check. Its easy to turn off for anyone that would like to have unfiltered chat.

I use mostly the default layout. W A S D for movement and Q E for rotation. I can reach 1 2 3 4 5 for the first 5 powers in tray 1 without lifting my left hand. My mouse has a few extra buttons that i sometimes use for powers in tray 3 but most of the stuff in tray 2 and 3 arent used often or are toggles so i tend to click them as needed. I put the prestige teleport stuff in tray 4 and click over to it from tray 3 when needed since those have long cooldowns and are not used often. On characters that need more than 3 visible trays, i make 1 more bar and have it near the bottom center of the screen. It usually ends up as mastermind pet powers and other summon abilities.

TheZag replied to cranebump's topic in General Discussion
The team makes judgment calls on this on a frequent basis, i assume. There are ways that a character would be allowed from a strictly legal standpoint that the team here may drop the generic hammer on. Changing the costume a bit is helpful and not having the name is a big help. Write a bio for your character is probably the biggest help for keeping your character from getting generic'd, especially to show a different origin story or if you use parody since parody is allowed under the laws. Make it obvious parody though - I have a character who's bio is he did 99 pushups, 99 situps, and a 9.5k run and almost became super. The name is also parody with the costume adjusted as well. -
Im not sure on how the upgrade button is implemented, but if it runs a slash command then it may be possible to add the ability to use while not on the enhancement screen. My understanding is Null works his alignment modifying magic by running slash commands that are restricted from player access. *If* the upgrade button runs a slash command and it was changed to be a level 0 (regular users) command, then it could be made into a macro button to press. However, i dont see it likely to occur even if it were easy to code. When you ding during a major firefight, you get a rainbow of big inspirations for free. That more than compensates for the small reduction of going from +3 to +2 enhancements for a few seconds.

Lockouts, savage melee/assault, psy melee
TheZag replied to WindDemon21's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Ive never done the math, but i made my attack chain so it consumes blood frenzy at 4 stacks to stop me from getting locked out. I can still get locked out on occasion because of a miss though. I would be interested if the increase in damage from 4 to 5 stacks is more than the loss of damage and other buffs over the lockout period. I went to start getting numbers once and then i realized it sucks to try that on a brute because of fury. Ive been thinking of rolling it as a tank to have both and then i could run some consistent numbers. -
I wouldnt mind a file to edit for adding additional filtered words and exceptions. There are several words that i would add and several that i would remove. Like in the mission where an enemy says something to the effect of 'im gonna slit your throat' (in the chat bubble), except it shows as 'im gonna <bleep> your throat' (in the chat box)....no way anyone would fill in the blank wrong there. And players cant use slit at all without getting bleeped in both the chat box and bubble. But as for adding or removing words server side, that is likely a can of worms best left unopened. I think client side lists of additions and exceptions is the way to go (if its possible to begin with).

My first post was meant in response to the video of lookey what thunderspy has. I tend to not quote or do @ very often though, my bad.

We cant hit the damage cap through our build alone but we can cap defense and resist. I would measure against what is lost in a build and not that a team or league has me buffed to the extreme on hardmode. And i missed that range was meta for the hardest content, ill have to reconsider my tank.
-
I would have to try and make a build that chases max range set bonuses and see if it can still achieve 45% defense and adequate resists. It that turns out to be impossible (such as losing 15% defense to chase range), then i dont see an issue with a new set that includes a global range unique. As it is now, you probably have to sacrifice other set bonuses to get crazy range.

Homecoming doesnt do things because another server did them. HC also doesnt not do things because of other servers. I dont think wind control is in the pipeline right now and another server having it will have nothing to do with if or when HC does it. I would like to see it, i even offered up some animation recycling possibilities in another thread for some of the powers.

Why is power armor so uncommon in NPC groups?
TheZag replied to biostem's topic in General Discussion
Power armor costs alot of money and all the enemy groups only have inf. -
Bio armor / Dark melee tank Just over 3k hp in defensive adaptation. I turn off most of my toggles so my friend isnt bored on her empathy characters. She still says healing me is pointless with absorb pain refilling less than half of my hp. I run a hami tank build and an AoE damage build as well. Shadow maul with a tank is quite satisfying.

Looks like we need a large circle for the bottom layer, which we already have. Then we need a chest symbol that is a medium circle with a large dot, which we dont have. At that point, anyone could make them any 3 colors they want since its built off 2 costume pieces. That would limit chest options somewhat but its how getting 3 colors would need to work with the current costume designer. Some signature NPCs have tri-color costume parts where players could copy either of the pairs of colors but cant do all 3, an example is Tyrant's pants that are red and blue with gold stars. The requested bullseye would need to be sized appropriately to proportions with the large circle but otherwise is a very simple chest symbol that would look tri-color when used with the chest pattern.

honoroitisfantastic Would you pvp for prisms?
TheZag replied to honoroit's topic in General Discussion
The only fun ive ever had in CoH pvp was with a bunch of level 2 blasters. We tried some lvl 50 pvp and those that had pvp builds completely devastated those that did not. Adding a reward wouldnt attract me to that awful experience again. Maybe i would pvp in a zone where the rule was enhancements have no effect or SOs only but the current state of pvp is an absolute misery to play.- 140 replies

That is a serviceable version of the original idea. Sorry about my deluge of negativity in pointing out that AT locked badges wouldnt be received well. I had hoped it would inspire you to rework your idea into something more universally available, not ruin your week.

Add a Bit of Wiggle Room to 'On the Ground' Powers
TheZag replied to TheZag's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
If it didnt already exist, i doubt ground based powers would ever have been added. But we have it and a complete removal also isnt likely. Generally its the thematic reasons that are stated for ground based powers functionality and that doesnt make it incorrect. My electric armor brute can radiate electricity several feet from his body but loses his protections from Grounded the moment he leaves the ground - he has been knocked over because moving quickly over uneven ground will constantly leave you 'airborne' for fractions of a second. To me, its thematic for powers like that to work while several feet off the ground just based on the range of the electric aura and a general quality of life improvement for all ground powers to work while flying near ('touching') the ground. -
Back in the day i could only get on teams if speed boost was 4 slotted for end recovery. They didnt care/know about the rest of the set.

There are a bunch of powers out there that require either the player or the target to be on the ground. There are also a bunch of times when enemies are on a slope or their hitbox is otherwise a few pixels off the ground and players are prevented from using 'target must be on the ground' abilities, even when the enemy is standing on the ground. To further complicate matters, some powers that require ground such as foot stomp will work if you are flying near the ground but others wont work, making players whose movement power choice is fly or mystic flight problematic with their powerset. The game seems to be able to tell if you are on the ground or near the ground since some powers work while flying near the ground. I suggest to make all powers that require the player to be on the ground to work while flying near the ground and powers that require the enemy to be on the ground to work if they are slightly (or maybe even several feet) above the ground. This should help prevent targeting issues when an enemy is quite clearly standing on the ground and continue with the thematic purpose of 'this ground based powerset requires you to be on the ground'. There are also a few times when powers like group fly are used that suddenly prevents several of your powers from working or an enemy jumps right when you tried to cast your power that required them to be on the ground. 'I know you are super but let me foil your powers with my super secret ability to lift my feet off the ground for short periods of time.'

Back in the day of no agro limits, teams were very selective of who could join. You had the tank to herd everything, a bunch of blasters to blow it all up, and maybe 1 friend that got to leech since they werent a tank or blaster. My controller was denied many teams back in the day because he couldnt herd or explode. An illusion/kinetics controller with fulcrum shift literally couldnt get on a team that wanted maximum damage. There was one time a team 'let' me join but with the stipulation that i would probably get booted when a blaster wanted in. They wondered why they were wrecking everything and i explained kinetics....again (alot of kinetics was misunderstood back in the day). I didnt get booted that day but i dont want to return to the before times where stuff like that was more likely to occur. If i were revamping the agro system it would stay very close to what it is now. Taunt, Confront, Provoke and Challenge would let you temporarily over the agro limit if that mob is engaged to another player but not when the mob is idle. Taunting something else would remove taunt from the first mob amd they would return to attacking the original player. Basically you get 1 taunt worth of over the agro cap but only to peel a mob off a player. Taunting to no effect or to lose some of your current agro always feels counter intuitive.
