https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/12155-going-forward-can-we-have-more-things-that-mean-something/?tab=comments#comment-121433 https://forums.homecomingservers.com/forum/48-roleplaying/ https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/15702-monkey-fight-club-its-not-a-secret-anymore/ People play how they play. What "point" was there ever to begin with? There's nothing to prove. Nothing to earn, other than the experiences we share, and some of us have absolutely no interest in experiences that involve endless grind for shiny baubles that could just as easily be toggled on with the flip of a switch. It's a game. People play it to enjoy it. What's enjoyable is entirely subjective. Same as it ever was. -
The various Shards ("servers") also have different themes. Everlasting ( https://forums.homecomingservers.com/forum/40-everlasting/ ) is the Roleplaying Shard. Indomitable ( https://forums.homecomingservers.com/forum/41-indomitable/ ) is the PvP Shard. Excelsior ( https://forums.homecomingservers.com/forum/39-excelsior/ ) is the most populous Shard. Torchbearer ( https://forums.homecomingservers.com/forum/38-torchbearer/ ) is the original Homecoming Shard. and Reunion ( https://forums.homecomingservers.com/forum/42-reunion-eu/ ) is the European Shard.

The secret to being an ass is to be the kind of ass that other asses like. But, usually, I recommend just not being an ass if one can help it in the first place. By the way, if someone wants to make a prettier version of my instructions up there, and then post it to the Guides Section, that may be wise.

Nah, Bonkle', you hit the nail on the head. A lot of people assume that "bigger number per enemy" is always the optimal play, but drop-rates paint a very different picture. I am QUITE content to run at -1/x1 while solo, and about the only significant pain in the ass is the slower rate of accumulating the Inf-Earnt Badges.

Alrighty! So, what might actually be ideal for you is a Global Channel community. Those tend to be more far-reaching and allow you to stay in touch with people even when they're switching the characters they're playing as. In game there is a Global Channel Search function. (chat redacted for privacy of other players) Right-click in your Chat Window: (private channel names redacted) Select the "Channel Search" Option You can then view some default Global Channels, or search for a specific type of Global Channel in the "Name:" bar (also searches Description for keywords). This also shows how many members a Global Channel has, and how many of them are online at this moment (note: Hidden players will show up in the Online tally, but not in the User List window). Once you find a Channel that you like the looks of, you can join it! This is where things get a little tricky and annoying, though. A Global Channel will only be added to the currently active Chat Tab on the one specific character you joined the Channel on. Even though your Global Account is registered to that Channel, you will have to manually add it to each subsequent character you log in to after that point. It's annoying as hell, but there's at least a way to make it a smidge easier! /chatsave /chatload These two commands will be your best friend if you are an active Global Channel user like I am. The first will save your Chat Tab configuration, including Global Channels. The second will then load those exactly Chat Tab configurations on any other character. (Note: It's possible to accidentally re-join a Global Channel which you quit by using the Load command without first updating the Save command.) So, to do the optimal play, once you join a Global Channel, right-click on your Chat Tab(s) of choice, and "Edit Tab" Brings up: (private channels redacted again) Global Channels will always be listed at the top of this window, making it easy to track them down. So, if I want to add "Homecoming" Global Channel to my "Global" Chat Tab, I click on "Homecoming" on the right-hand side and then click "<< Add" in the middle, then "OK" to confirm. You may also notice that you can customize the colours of your Global Chat Channels! (but not the regular game channels) Left-click on the name of the channel itself (you'll have to receive a message in that channel first, before you can do this). Then select "Set Colour." And then you can choose what colour your Global Channel becomes! You can have a maximum of 14 Global Channels with custom colours, or 15 with a bug which "forgets" the custom colour of one of your Global Channels (very annoying, but not game breaking). At this point, remember to /chatsave That way, on your other characters, you can /chatload And retain all the wonderful colours you've customized! I hope this helps. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, or reach out to me in-game at @VileTerror

Badge progress bars for Time Spent online in Zones update under very certain conditions, so they can give the illusion that they're not progressing. I discovered this in Pocket D, where my progress bar was stuck around 75%, but I still received my Badge after one hour. I attempted to reproduce the error, and found that zoning in and out of my base would update the progress bar, and oddly, some interactions with the /ah would update it, but not all.

There is nowhere I know that highlights the issues with Pet pathing more than in Player-built Bases. Boy howdy, does that result in some interesting silliness when you're trying to roleplay! I can only imagine the disaster that would be caused should the Team ever re-enable Base Raid PvP.

The delay on switching to Defensive and then having the Henchpets retaliate was an intentional addition to prevent Masterminds from "cheesing" the Bodyguard Damage Share mechanic. But frankly? I think it's time we allow Masterminds to cheese it as an improvement to Quality of Life!
-
Dangnabbit. Looks like that's the case. https://archive.paragonwiki.com/wiki/Limits#Recharge_Rate Ok, so, seems that -75% Recharge is actually quite huge. All the same, Archvillains and +Level_Con enemies do reduce the effectiveness of -Recharge Debuffs ( https://archive.paragonwiki.com/wiki/Purple_Patch ), so my idea would at least make them more competitive against higher-level content. Might still be worth it there.

If anything, I think it would be best to double-down on Web Grenade's strengths as a -Recharge Debuff. While finicky and introducing potential breakage, I think it would be nice if Web Grenade could be granted a special stacking mechanic for the -Recharge in PvE (because such a mechanic would be devastating in PvP, and I don't want to muck around with that). Essentially, code Web Grenade to operate exactly as-is with the first application (using Defenders' numbers as an example). -62.5% Recharge Debuff. Because doing a full Stack would just be ridiculous, I propose splitting the Recharge Debuff and stacking only part of it. Let's say . . . roughly one third? First application to a target would be -62.5% Then -82.5% Then -102.5% et cetera. Up to -162.5% at maximum applications (and that's assuming the Defender doesn't let up, and is just constantly casting the Web Grenade to the virtual exclusion of anything else). I don't think that's too overpowered for a Defender. Other Archetypes could be only one fourth stacking potential. So, for a Mastermind: 50% 62% 74% et cetera 120% max (again, just laying down nothing but Web Grenades to obtain this value). I see this as an effective way to bring up the potential usefulness of Web Grenade, particularly against heavy targets like Archvillains, without completely redesigning its function or purpose.

Badge names almost illegible in Info window
ImpousVileTerror replied to Vanden's topic in Bug Reports
And this bugs occurs on all of your characters? I'm wondering if, maybe, there's a common Badge or maybe a setting which you each have that's causing it. On dozens of characters, I have been unable to reproduce the bug, so there's definitely something triggering it that doesn't apply to all players/characters. Would you all be willing to share your in-game Display settings or saved Options files? Your Badge lists? -
As we discussed in a recent Death From Below, where everyone had Hover (or Fly): We all float down here.

I was unable to reproduce that bug. Do you have any details on how it's caused? -
Invent some Invention Sets! (more for fun)

DAMNIT ZEPP! I was gonna do that! . . . oh. Wait. That's right. We can BOTH do that! *goes to the drawing board* -
There is a potential issue with that assessment, JayboH, though. Old maps are built on old technology. The dev toolkits for them might be lost forever. However, the Homecoming Team -might- be able to develop NEW tools for NEW maps. Take a look at bases. They're built out of a different system. So, while we may not be able to modify the existing mission maps, we may still be able to craft entirely new ones.

VileTerror's Roleplay Characters as of 2020-04-27
ImpousVileTerror replied to VileTerror's topic in Roleplaying
I'm working on it. Still been working full time hours while everyone else has been home in lockdown, heh. Only so much time in the day between gameplay, roleplay, and channel operator duties, not to mention all sorts of other real-world responsibilities. I'll get there, so long as Homecoming stays operational.- 19 replies

Not actually an insane request! Honestly.

What mechaham said, but we don't even need to invoke comics. City of Heroes -itself- just straight-up embraces temporal multiverse shenanigans, for better or for worse. -
Dual Pistols Animations
ImpousVileTerror replied to Maricus the Aged's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
They gave some players what they wanted, yes. A lot of us are still waiting for a more lowkey approach. Maybe a little John Wick-style efficiency. Maybe some Dirty Harry/Man With No Man. We're not here to take away anyone's Gun Fu. We just want some long-desired options to finally make their appearance. And since there are many pistol animations already in the game, it's hopefully low-hanging fruit overall. -
Advanced client-side chat filter
ImpousVileTerror replied to mechahamham's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I think your suggestion might be on the tougher side of things to code, actually. But I also think it's worthwhile. The more self-moderation tools the Team can give to players, the less reliant the players will need to be on the GMs to address personal grievances from other players. -
Honestly, I'm not even sure -what- the Homecoming Devs do to make their decisions. The most they've "told us" (as far as I've seen), is the occasional "Like" Rep on a post where one member of the community suggested to another that the Devs would probably appreciate seeing hard math on a proposal. I can't even find the post in question, but I'll bookmark it if I stumble across it again. Their specific methods are still largely hidden from us. The most I could find, and this was a search for over an hour, is: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/16180-development-philosophy-and-community-servers/page/5/?tab=comments#comment-174910 It's very informative, but still doesn't get in to the gritty of specifics of the Team's methods, or even what their design philosophy is. I will say this: Every game developer is a human being. That means they are just as flawed and as brilliant as any other member of our species. I think, personally, that we should appeal to them and respect them as human beings, and not as authorities. They're capable of, and ALLOWED to make mistakes. We should be able to speak to that without stripping the Devs down to nothing, nor raising them up above reproach. That way, when mistakes happen, we can try to find a way to make repairs, rather than scaring/dragging the Devs in to a corner where they need to double-down.

Respec'ing to new Primaries/Secondaries is not available, and it's my understanding that the Homecoming Team is unlikely to ever develop the code that would be required for such a change. Generally, on Homecoming, the consensus is "roll a new alt." But, yeah, you don't need to delete anything! If you want to free up the name, migrate the character to another Shard or use your free Rename tokens!

Dual Pistols Animations
ImpousVileTerror replied to Maricus the Aged's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Well, I mean, if they accelerate the Activation times AND give us some more animation options, that would just be win-win. -
Outlier Roleplay Genres / Character Types
ImpousVileTerror replied to blue4333's topic in Roleplaying
Too true, Saeletra. And that's not to say that I don't think people should be allowed to engage in whatever fiction they enjoy (presuming informed consent between all involved parties). It's just not necessarily the most accessible for someone like me, and clearly not for others among us here either, heh. -
Dual Pistols Animations
ImpousVileTerror replied to Maricus the Aged's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Put me down as another player who definitely wants to see some different animations. I don't mind if there's a lot of "dead air" hang time to pad out the animation times, I'd just really appreciate some animations for this set which are a -bit- more realistic.
