I was playing the Mace/Rad Brute whose costume choices spawned this thread, and had another thought; I don't know whether it would go under War Mace or Titan Weapons, but the Nemesis Staff is right there, all the artwork and object animation done -- the argument for War Mace is that the Nemesis Staff animations are all one-handed, and the argument for Titan Weapons is that it's considerably bigger than the other War Mace weapons, closer to the size of many of the Titan Weapons choices. Given the number of characters running around with a Nemesis Staff from the P2W vendor, it seems reasonable that someone would have started using it "off label" as a blunt instrument as well.

It gets stolen from him later, only to turn up in radio missions, where you are sent to recover the P.L.O.T. Device.

IIRC, it's a set of bind files that remap the movement keys; one file's binds move (as per the normal key), try to fire Domination, and load the other bind file, with the same set of binds, except that they try to fire Hasten. There's no reason why you couldn't do the same thing with three or more files, one file for each power to be triggered. It does depend on your keeping the character moving, though.

Natural Origin isn't just for sword/SR scrappers
srmalloy replied to cohRock's topic in General Discussion
One of my characters, Machinator Magicus, has a similar hybrid background, being from an alternate dimension that went the direction of Poul Anderson's Operation Chaos novels, where magic was the technology. When he got dumped into Paragon City, he was wearing a suit intended for protection in the dimension he was supposed to be going to, and it failed colorfully on arrival due to magic working somewhat differently in this dimension, forcing him to relearn how magic worked and rebuild his gear -- essentially a magic-based technology character (and also explaining advancement in level, as he learned how to make spells and enchantments he already knew work in this dimension). -
I recently made a Mace/Rad Brute, and I noticed something about the three Carnival of [X] weapons -- the color choices color the main body of the mace (primary) and some tiny detail bits(secondary), while the energy ball held framed in the head of the mace is... yellow. It would expand the customization range if the detail bits were folded into the main mace color, while the secondary color tinted the energy ball. Not having the code ready to hand, I've got no idea whether the art was set up to allow this to be done without a significant amount of work, though.

Crazy limitations you put on yourself while playing
srmalloy replied to wolfshadow31's topic in General Discussion
I did a DFB once, just to see what it was all about. Once I'd seen that it was the 'character's first PL' setup, that was it for me. -
Watt? Ewe don't halve a spilling checquer too make shirr awl yore words arr spilled write?

The English name was already taken, but picking a foreign language allowed me to take the translated name for a Mace/Rad Brute -- 'Steuerstab' (Control Rod).

Inconsistencies between activation times and root durations
srmalloy replied to Pzn's topic in Bug Reports
Are these powers that have alternate animations? It's a known bug that some of the alternate animations lock you down for about twice as long as the animation time should be. -
It would be interesting to know where you got that expansion from, since I've always seen it as 'Point Blank Area of Effect' across dozens of games including CoH.

Just now: [NPC] Gravedigger Slammer: Why you heroes dress so crazy?
-
Or you can buy them off the AH, although if you want an attuned version of an enhancement you already have, you're better off selling the regular enhancement and buying an attuned version, since they sell from the same pool -- the price you get for the enhancement will usually be very close to the price you pay, and much cheaper than buying a catalyst.
-
You can attune them as soon as you can slot them, since you have to use the enhancement combination screen to do it, and that only works with slotted enhancements.

Psi melee - telekinetic blow does not give power info in chat links
srmalloy replied to Greycat's topic in Bug Reports
Checking on my Psi Melee scrapper, so it does, and bracketing the power name doesn't work, the way it does for other powers when you type the power name in. -
Psi melee - telekinetic blow does not give power info in chat links
srmalloy replied to Greycat's topic in Bug Reports
If you drag the power icon from your tray to the chat entry box, does it appear in the box as "[Telekinetic Blow]", or is the power name different? IIRC, there are still a few powers where the internal game name doesn't match the display name. -
Actually, the original usage is "if the worst come to the worst", from 1596. However, both your correction and the version that appears in the game are viable usage, and the version currently in the game is listed in Merriam-Webster.

I'm not going for complicated derivations, just basic one- or two-word combinations that describe the character -- Stal'naya Deva, Obmorozheniye, Toksichniy Podlesok, Razrastaniye, Tenevoy Ogon, Deva Molniya, Luchnik, and others.

If it's completely immersive, I can understand your getting XP, because you're learning how to use your powers better. Tickets, those are AE's reward mechanism. Salvage, recipes, enhancement, and other drops? You're in a virtual-reality environment; nothing you pick up in there exists in the real world. Inf? NWIFH; regardless of what side you're on -- blue, red, or gold -- Inf is supposed to represent your ability to use your reputation as to get people to supply you with stuff, whether it's out of respect for your actions as a hero (blue), fear of what you might do to them (red), or information about them or others to leverage their actions (gold). I don't care how many or how complex the electronic ghosts you've defeated are; crawling into your electronic navel does nothing to increase your reputation in the real world. If you show up in Paragon City, immediately crawl into the AE building, and don't come out until you're level 50, no one in the city is going to have any idea who you are; you'll have zero influence.

Base designer - missing NPC for placement
srmalloy replied to wdoerfler's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
It's been explained several times already why this isn't going to happen. In order to have the AH available in a base -- or in any other instance -- the entire AH database has to be loaded in the instance's data space. One copy of the complete AH database for each separate SG base that has a character in it. You think the AH has synch and response time problems now, with the AH accessible in each normal zone, and a new copy of the database gets loaded only when a zone fills up and spawns another (i.e., RWZ2 when a MSR is going on)? Imagine what it would be like with the AH database being loaded each time someone enters a base. The database server running the AH data does not have the bandwidth to be able to serve several thousand separate instances at once. Think about the performance of your net connection when streaming high-resolution video. Now imagine that there are a couple of hundred other people sharing your net connection, all trying to stream high-resolution video at the same time. -
This leads to the amusing thought of someone tweaking the forum title entries for April 1 to change all occurrences of 'Game Master' to 'Giant Monster' and see how long it takes someone to notice.

Once you have the book in her contact entry, you will be able to finish the arc that ends with you defeating Heracles, even though her missions cap at 25; she'll pass you off to Long Jack, Tobias Hansen, or Lars Hansen depending on what level you are when you talk to her after either completing her arc or outleveling her as a contact. But if you are level 30 or higher when you defeat Heracles to finish her arc, you don't get the temp power reward, even though her dialog implies that you do. Since Lars caps out at 30, and you need to complete his arc to be introduced to Ernesto Hess, if you don't want to have to go back through Ouro to do it, you'll want to go to Striga and talk to Stephanie at 21, and either not be running an XP boost or be willing to turn off XP while you run the Striga storyline to the exclusion of everything else; it's far too easy to outlevel the zone.

All the way to the Supreme Court -- Nix v. Hedden, 149 U. S. 304 (1893), a unanimous opinion upholding the terms used in the Tariff Act of 1883.

It gets easier to get names like that if you use a foreign language -- for example, 'Yaderniy Ogon' (Nuclear Fire, a Fire/Rad Controller).

Who else did it? Who else remade their main?
srmalloy replied to StoneColdJoker's topic in General Discussion
I've remade about a third of the characters I had on live, including Pakfront, the AR/EM Blaster that was the first character I created, on May 8, 2004, and who was in the bowl in the middle of a msr when the servers were shut down, part of a group that were going to go out as if the shutdown wasn't going to happen. Most of them are somewhat different in build, mainly due to the greater availability of enhancement sets, which changed some of the priorities for slotting and power picks, but I've tried to keep them visually the same. -
And finish her arc before you hit 30; if you don't, you don't get the temporary power that is part of the rewards for completing the arc -- the version you get doing it as an Ouro flashback is inferior.
