It's a common misconception that running at a higher difficultly always results in better XP/rewards per hour than a lower setting. But that's simply not the case. If it takes you 50% longer to kill something but you're only getting 30% more rewards then you're actually getting less per hour, not more. You see this a lot in-game, especially on PUGs. People don't understand that a higher difficulty doesn't automatically mean greater rewards over time. I very rarely solo at +4/x8 not because my god-level characters can't handle it, but because it's too much of a slog. I find +2 or +3 to be a better balance between speed and rewards. It doesn't sound like you actually want a greater challenge or to make the game harder for yourself (after all, we build characters to be more effective because we seek to reduce challenge, not increase it), it sounds to me like you really just want to increase the rate at which you earn XP/rewards.

It doesn't do any of those things. Increasing a critter's stats (tohit, damage, resistance, defense, regen, etc) only serves to counter your own abilities, and mathematically is no different than reducing your stats by the equivalent amount. The only difference is your perception.
-
So you purposefully build characters that perform well beyond what the game is geared for and then complain it's not hard enough. You get the exact same level of challenge by reducing your stats as you do increasing the stats of critters. If you don't want to be godly, don't build your characters to be gods. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. I simply will never understand this mentality. In before Rudra screams "but but but POWER CREEP!!!"

Switch to a build with no enhancements. Problem solved.

Seriously, I play with 6 trays by default. Some characters get 7 or 8.

End management tools, fixed resistances, self heal. EA has some nice stuff in its kit.

Major CoH character design changes?
Captain Fabulous replied to Glacier Peak's topic in General Discussion
Off the top of my head I can't think any of heroes who got costume changes, except for Statesman's cape. Penny Yin perhaps, but I think that's more of seeing her evolve over time in-game. -
Bind Help with Flame Mastery Fire Shield
Captain Fabulous replied to Grumblings's topic in Help & Support
You might need to do it as reference to tray and slot instead of by name. -
If groups are dying that quickly then you don't need Storm Cell active. You can also recast it, you don't have to wait for it to catch up with you.

Does Preventive Medicine Absorb Proc work in Health?
Captain Fabulous replied to Sailboat's topic in Archetypes
From Homecoming Wiki: "This enhancement adds a chance to grant an absorption barrier every 5 seconds. If current health is between 31% and 75% of max health, there is a 10% chance the effect will trigger. If current health is less than 31% of max health, there is a 100% chance the effect will trigger. The effect can only trigger once every 90 seconds." -
Does Preventive Medicine Absorb Proc work in Health?
Captain Fabulous replied to Sailboat's topic in Archetypes
According to Paragon Wiki: "This enhancement has a chance every 5 seconds to give you an absorption barrier. If your health is between 31% and 75%, this power has a 10% chance of triggering. However, if your health is less than 31% there is a 100% chance of triggering. This effect can only trigger once every 90 seconds." -
Unable to sort characters. Is it a setting or a bug?
Captain Fabulous replied to TutuLou's topic in Help & Support
Uncheck the box. All it does is remember the last username that logged in and autofills the field. -
One more new bind command.. PAUSE
Captain Fabulous replied to BlackSpectre's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
The command line system was designed specifically to not queue commands because they didn't want it used to execute multiple powers in one click. It's the same reason we can only put one power on auto. -
I remember when Plant Control came out and Seeds of Confusion was DA BOMB. Everyone wanted a Plant Troller or Dom on their team simply for that one power. No one has ever, ever, ever liked detention powers on a team. The biggest problem being that by the time you noticed they were jailed you already wasted 2 or 3 powers trying to attack them. All those powers should have made critters untargetable (or targetable but unattackable) while it was active, but of course that would have been too easy and make too much sense. I know there have been some changes to how some of those powers work but I can't even tell you the last time I've seen someone use one. I know I haven't. Don't think I ever have TBH. It's the same problem with Carnies and Fake Nemesis. But yes, I find people who spam Wormhole and Fold Space to be REALLY annoying, especially since in most cases it's simply not necessary and only slows things down. It's right up there with uncontrolled AoE knockback. When I use Wormhole it's to either stun the group (plop them down in the same spot they are or bounce them off a nearby wall) or to bring a nearby spawn to us to take advantage of any debuff or buff patches that have already been placed.

I used to get random crashes like this when I had 16 GBs of system RAM, had Chrome open and set to use GPU acceleration. Upgrading to 32 GBs of RAM fixed all the crashing issues. I don't have a good explanation, as memory monitoring with 16 GBs rarely went above 80%. I think Chrome uses more memory than the system reports it does. Trying closing everything before playing, see if that helps.

Pretty sure it says it right in the description you don't get XP for anything killed by a confused foe.

Replace Ms. Liberty as the Atlas Park trainer.
Captain Fabulous replied to Star Light's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Sorry, can't do it. The original devs had Ms. Liberty right there in Atlas so it can never be changed. Not to mention the power creep that would irrevocably imbalance the entire game if she were to be relocated. Nope, sorry, she has to stay there. I'm totally 100% against moving any of the NPCs, ever. If the original devs wanted them somewhere else they would have put them there to begin with. We can't just go around changing things all willy-nilly. We have to think of the power creep. First ask yourself "is this going to cause power creep". And if the answer is yes, then no, you can't do it. And if the answer is no, well then you're wrong and you still can't do it. That's all there is to it. -
Gravity is one of those sets that doesn't really synergize better or worse with any particular secondary. Kin has always been a good set, so it should be a fine pairing.

Replace Ms. Liberty as the Atlas Park trainer.
Captain Fabulous replied to Star Light's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
War Witch is in multiple locations too, and I'm pretty sure there are a few others. I honestly don't think it's a big deal. She's been there since day 1. It would be kinda weird for her to not be there. -
This is because most NPCs that con white are given a ridiculously low perception radius and aren't considered teammates, which makes it very easy for them to lose you or not see you thru any kind of stealth. It's not a bug. It's absolutely by design.

You're welcome to your opinion, even if it's wrong. Cat 5 is great.

Making the "Weave" power more accessible
Captain Fabulous replied to Shiro-Nethermore's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Ah yes, the old "I know you are but what am I" level of discourse. The reasons why the perquisites should be removed have been clearly explained and go way beyond "because I think so". As for you old rallying cry of "but but but POWER CREEP" it has been proven over and over again that it's simply not a thing. You really need to find new material. The power gap between baseline and theoretical max is so vast that giving people 1 or 2 extra powers isn't even going to move the needle in any quantifiable way. Please just stop. We are all so sick to death of you and your same old tired 1st grade nonsense. -
Making the "Weave" power more accessible
Captain Fabulous replied to Shiro-Nethermore's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Exactly this. If a power has little to no merit of its own it shouldn't be a power people are forced to take in order to get a power they do want. There are so many good T3-T5 pool powers that most people never get to take because allocating multiple slots for useless or substandard prerequisites simply isn't viable for most builds. This is a prime example of Jack's twisted sense of "balance" that only detracts from the enjoyment of the game, not enhance it (right up there with his believing dying a lot is fun). Had the prerequisites never existed no one in their right mind would be advocating for them now -- we would all be enjoying greater build diversity and not being saddled with useless powers we don't want and will never use. If the best answer one can provide as to why the prerequisite should be there is "because I think it should be", sorry, that's not a good enough reason. -
Safeguard missions no longer spawning AVs?
Captain Fabulous replied to Captain Fabulous's topic in Bug Reports
Not that I'm aware of. And the AV setting just controls whether it's an AV or EB. I'm just getting regular bosses. Has it always been this way? Because I remember getting AVs fairly regularly on bank missions, like more often than not.
