MythsnWraiths
I am reviving all of my old heroes from Live and up next is my main tank. I kept none of my notes and builds from Live so please help critique this build as I start my planning. Dull Pain is perma. Haste is just two seconds shy. Attack Chain would go KB>Jab>Haymaker>Jab>Foot stomp>Haymaker Recharge was obviously a priority, but after that I kind of lost focus. I just grabbed a little defense, a little res, and a little regen. I took Unrelenting as a chaser for Rage to minimize the DPS crash. Let me know if this is a dumb idea. After the core build was done I had three extra slots open and it seemed like a waste to spend them on Tough/Weave. Caulderone
I would ditch Unstoppable, frankly. It isn't worth the crash. Here is Hyperstrike's guide: Look around on this Tanker forum and he has lots of builds submitted for folks. Your defense is well short of where it can be. Hyperstrike
In my framework builds, Tough is usually only ever a mule for Tanks/Brutes. CAN you still build tough? Sure. This build won't start out QUITE as tough with 0 enemies in range. Not QUITE soft-capped to E/N with 0 enemies in range (44.7%). But this will build Defense slightly faster. And with 1 enemy in range, you're perfectly fine. Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.962http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! MythsnWraiths
Thank you Caulderone for your initial response. I was reading it over and Hyper's builds on my phone last night and found it quite informative. And then, Hyper goes and responds himself. THANKS for this build! It answers alot of questions I had from reading over your framework. Mainly, what to do with Dull Pain and how to slot/prioritize it. And of course all the secondary power selections... you saved me so much time and struggle. Much appreciated, both of you.
Hyperstrike
Yeah, going Fighting-free, it frees up a few slots. While lack of the pool will leave you SLIGHTLY more vulnerable, boosting your investment in Dull Pain will cover you fairly well. If you want to be godlike, pick anything. If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

Solarverse
With the lack of defense, you're going to really feel those hits. With only 17% Defense to Energy, any attack that drains endurance is going to cripple you. If Unstoppable is something you want (I admit, I took it as well for no reason other than nostalgia, but since my build was so good, I kept it because honestly, I didn't need any other abilities.) this includes Unstoppable and is pretty much one of the toughest Tank build you'll find around. Check the stats on this and see how you like it. Call Me Awesome
As it stands now Unstoppable will kill you more often than it will save you; I'd ALWAYS find something better for the slot. Here's the thing, if you have a good build you'll never need it... if you do hit it here's what's going to happen: You'll finish up your current fight, unless it's an AV, with no problem... if it IS an AV then you'd better pray the AV falls in under 3 minutes. Then you have two choices, either on to the next spawn or stand and wait for the thing to drop and you to recover, retoggle everything and continue on. If you move on and you're in combat when it drops then you're EXTREMELY likely to faceplant instantly leaving all the mobs to suddenly turn on the Blaster and eat his face off. In ALL situations you're better off with an inspiration or two instead of hitting Unstoppable. I look at it as a 3 minute death sentence, that 100% endurance crash will drop all your toggles and the 90% HP crash will leave you naked, helpless and nearly dead in the middle of a group of enemies who you have sole aggro on, instantly leading to checking the floor for lint. I haven't studied your build but Hyper's builds always tend to be highly survivable and effective. There's some areas where we disagree on slotting or power choices but his builds won't let you down. While we disagree on occasion on how to get to the end goal and even what the ultimate goal may be I don't think either of us would end up with a really sub optimal build. Placing the uniques (like the +3% Defenses and the Resist boosts) earlier in the build. Otherwise you're losing them when you're losing those later powers during Exemplar play. Also, becoming a non-fan of Spring Attack. Sure, it's a semi-decent TP-like AoE attack. And yeah, it looks SPECTACULAR. The major downside is, for what you have to invest to get it? The base Recharge is asinine and the enhanced Recharge is only moderately better than asinine. It's fully enhanced Recharge is still nearly 4x Foot Stomp's TOTALLY UNENHANCED Recharge. If you want to be godlike, pick anything. If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!
BeowulfinIA
I moved the the +Res up to Combat Jumping and reorganized to get Tough with +Def at 30. Spring attack was just a "sure I will try that" type of power. I had Jab in before but I was just looking for one power that would "help the most". I didn't want Hand Clap or Unstoppable. Most of the other Epic and Patron powers seem unappealing so I chose Spring Attack.

If nothing else it'll give you another Ranged attack that's up frequently enough to possibly make it into your regular attack chain. If you want to be godlike, pick anything. elkhor
Here's my take on it. My main focuses were: -High E/N resists -Plugging the Psi hole (resist-wise) -A fair amount of Global Rech -Skipping the Winter and Purple Sets (can't be bothered to pay for em) -Not relying on a specific Incarnate Alpha/Destiny -High HP (over the Cap with Accolades and DP up in that case) Thought it further demonstrated Hyper's point that there's more than one way to build so long as your goal is clear. Alan260
Hi folks! Please forgive the intrusion, but I'm very new to the server and though I played during the original Live weekend through to CoV beta testing, I never sniffed endgame at all. In fact, back then it never occurred to me to check out forums. I was just having fun playing a tech blaster. Well, now I'm trying to build an Inv/SS tank and I'm having trouble deciphering some of the notation here. For example, I see something like this: GldArm-3defTpProc(A) . What does the (A) signify? I also see a range of different numbers in brackets, as well, like a (17) or (19) here and there. Are those the enhancement levels? Shouldn't we be trying to get them as high as possible for the final builds or have I misunderstood something fundamental? Thanks in advance for your understanding! The (A) is the slot that Automatically comes with the power. The other numbers are the level that that slot was taken at.

While it’s possible to decipher the gobbledygook, it’s much easier to understand the build by looking at it in Mids.

I'm not always the most tech savvy person out there.

If you need to shuffle things around, you can actually drag powers around to swap with another power. Say you wanted to take KO Blow from Level 20 to Level 30, you simply click, hold and drag. Now if the power that's in L30 isn't available at L20, it'll immediately turn red to let you know the build is illegal. You have the tab group in the lower left-hand corner to give power info and your general total for things like Defense, Resist, Recovery, Regen and Recharge. If you want more info, click on Window --> Advanced Totals To get optimal placement for your build, once you get it built, click on Slot/Enhancement --> Slots --> Auto-Arrange. It basically packs the slot distribution. This way, instead of having an L50 slot in a L32 power, you get L33-34, etc slots. This way, if you are re-working a build, all your high-level slots go to the last powers you pick. If you want to be godlike, pick anything. If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK! So in builds are you generally trying to get slots appropriate for the level you choose them or trying to max them out in general? I imagine maxing out entirely isn't cost effective in terms of in-game currency, but I would imagine it's possible given enough time..

Generally, when I build, I build for exempability. Now, if you spend the entirety of your at L50 (like a farmer), it doesn't really matter. As for how you slot enhancements, that's almost an entirely personal preference. Yes, maxing out a build for damage, survivability, etc is expensive. As to cost effective? Well, depends on how easily you can accumulate wealth. Currently I'm sitting on just over 3B in Inf, 600 Empies, 240 Hero Merits, 10,000+ Reward Merits and around 6,000 Vanguard merits. Plus an unspecified number of Architect tickets. If you want to be godlike, pick anything. If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

Guess I've got more reading to do since I've been back in the game for about a week now and have no clue what Empies are and haven't hit L50 in my life... 🙂
