Oh [non-secular holiday] Tree...

The Paragon officials do alright changing over Atlas Park in preparation for the holidays...  but is there any chance next year that they could put up the holiday tree from the Winter Forest in the little park clearing area in front of Ms. Liberty?  And maybe some of the surrounding buildings could put up lights?  Nearly every window in the city can get Halloween decorated...  it'd be nice to see a little more cheeriness in the winter.

Side note... could we get the holiday decorations (trees, light strings, and also that jaccuzi hot tub) added to base items so we can decorate our private spaces for the holidays?

 

The Christmas presents might also be nice... the ones we see lying in the streets as well as the one that gets thrown with the Super Strength -> Hurl power.

Having one sticking out of a dumpster in Mercy Island would also be fun!

Granted, some may see that as a bit mean-spirited, but it -is- The Rogue Isles, no?

Another base request:  the Winter Forest sky is a breathtaking view and not holiday specific.  It would be a great addition to the sky options in the base creator.

I love this idea.  I also want one burning, continuously somewhere.  Say, maybe everywhere there's people standing around an old oil drum with a fire in it to warm their hands, we put a Christmas tree in those too.

Maybe have a rather sad looking one set up in that shanty town in St. Marital.  The badge in there explicitly states that the people camping in there lost everything at the Giza and other casinos on the island, so perhaps a poor little tree might be all the hope they have left.

Actually, it's a Saturnalia tree. 

Or we could not get caught up on un-important details like the pagan roots of the holiday. All that matters is we decorate slowly dying tree corpses /nod.

The majority of people didnt call it a Saturnalia tree, or a tree deeply rooted in pagan lore - "come on kids, time to decorate the pagan rooted tree" 🙄

It was widely called a Christmas Tree, up until the point that the word "offended" became the norm

Honestly, haven't done enough research to say how common the Saturnalia tree was (only that it dates back to before there was a Christmas), or if it had a different name when it was part of that holiday, just pointing out that chronologically Christmas Tree wasn't first. And for the record, I find nothing offensive about calling it a Christmas Tree, or not calling it a Christmas Tree, no religion has a monopoly on decorating dying trees.

 

I kinda hope that if they did add a super tacky gold tree there would also be a mission for villains to try and steal it, and either having trouble moving a solid gold tree or being disappointed it's just gold paint.

Before that we would chase miscreants through the streets and then tie them up in the town square where they would be pelted with tinsel balls.  (Tinsel balls at the time had the consistency of baseballs.)

I wouldn't mind having more festive Christmas decorations in AP, as well as other zones.

 

I've noticed all buildings in all zones have Halloween jack-o-lanterns in the windows during Halloween,  why night have Christmas candles, wreaths, other decorations in the windows during Christmas?

Probably because Hallowe'en tends to be viewed as relatively secular and harmless, while Christmas has a raging maelstrom of debate surrounding it in regard to religion and commercialism.

Just a guess, mind you.  An equally likely answer is "no one's got around to making the visual assets yet."

I have a feeling that the whole reason that this is a separate zone is to avoid issues with X-mas vs appropriated Winter Solstice celebrations that would undoubtedly arise. Put frost on windows, snow on trees and icicles on overhangs to winterize the zone.

That doesn't address the other aspect of my request, which would be to make such things available in the base builder for non-open zone use.

 

Also, I am generally opposed to any reasoning for any action (or inaction) that results from an explanation with the word "appropriation" in it.

Totally agree that the Winter Forest assets should be base editor items. It's not a huge, time-sensitive issue or anything of course but it'd be a nice and they are already made.

 

As for why it's a separate zone to begin with, I doubt its due to any holiday cultural aspects and more just making one small separate zone (essentially a public holiday-themed base) was a lot easier than doing massive makeovers for the blue/redsize zones like Atlas Park gets. That stuff takes work, especially depending on how many assets need to be manually changed each time (and then changed back).
