Politics in General Chat

Recommended Posts

I love politics.  Originally Political Science was my major (Asian Studies focus) then it became my minor when I realized I could make real money with computers.  I like to get into spirited debates with people who are willing to do so.  And that to me is the key and is why I don't drag politics into the game.  Not everyone wants to hear it, regardless of the why, and the game is for lack of a better term a public venue so you need to respect others as well as yourself.  I feel similarly about other forms of politics like religion and social commentary, keep them out of the game.  Its escapism this little pixel world and even though there are political concepts and even messages woven into it; they aren't real.

Plus General Chat is s bubbling cauldron of suck when it isn't politics.  I want to blow my freaking brains out when the idiot panda crap starts.  Its not cute or funny; just annoying.  But see there is the best example you can find.  A stunted species of fundamentally lazy animals that technically should be extinct, played as powerful super heroes, that isn't real.🤣

Also Acme Rocket Skates are prone to premature fuel explosions.💥

For the record, and I'm genuinely sad that people didn't easily spot this, I was being extremely sarcastic and I would have thought it obvious that it was a side-eyed take on the fact that discussions of all kinds are great until they devolve to disagreement - and politics has a great tendency to go that way because as has already been noted, politics are often seen as part of a person's identity, part of makes them what they are. So when challenged it can be... difficult to hear and results in pushback.

And to be fair to the devs, moderators and majority of players, they don't come here to discuss stuff that's not relevant to being superheroic and entertained in a game.

I should have been more obvious

There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.

Oh yeah? I’ll harm whoever I WANT! (punches own face) So there!…ow…

Nononono. That's why the law is Harm No OTHER. You have the right to bodily autonomy. Punch yourself all ya like. 🙂 I prefer booze, smokes and other lovely drugs for my self-abuse.

We are talking about a breach of the rules of conduct.

Maybe I take them too seriously, but I don't think they are a laughing matter.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

It isn't my job to enforce the rules.

But I know my part and I stated it - Menu>Support>Harassment and Conduct. This is the same path that other people should take in order to resolve the situation.

You, on the other hand, are just trying to promote discord.

Well, Hail Eris, it is 5/23!

Hold my beer while I put you on ignore.

Did you report this post that you quoted?   If not I will have to report you for collusion to discuss politics on our forum.

This is no laughing matter.  Of course you won’t see this because you have ignored me.  Hopefully others will see it and refrain from laughing as well as I have.

I don't mind him. I wasn't clear enough in my original post. Sure, he is being super serious but there is a fair point... remember as a community we've been very proud of ourselves for a very long time, and generally we are quite open and progressive and amenable - a friendly place for newbies and vets alike - it's surprisingly rare. We should all strive to maintain that.

Do not confuse sarcasm with humour. But I'd hoped to make a point... clearly it didn't work so well but never mind

I think "Don't settle for a lesser evil. Snarky 2024!" is the greatest campaign slogan I've ever heard. At this point I'd vote for a vampire as long as they promised to keep the trains running on time.

Some of us who actually do care about the state of politics and are politically/socially involved in our real lives also want a place where we can escape that for a time.

I keep my politics out of my video games; I expect the same of others. 😉

I do my best to keep it off the forums as well, but I've certainly slipped from time to time. I'm not perfect. Far from it as a point fact. At best I am a very bad person who is trying to do good things.

In a game about HEROES, you expect no politics. Good luck. Certain RL politicians are drifting dangerously close to opinions explicitly condemned as "villains" in the City of Heroes.

In a gameworld where politics is SO entwined with it's story, you are certainly playing the wrong game if you desire neutrality.

..It only takes one Beanbag fan saying that they JRANGER it for the devs to revert it.

He's ignored me for far less. It involved me insinuating they were the type with a specific hairstyle who gets their jollies off policing others, even though it isn't their place to enforce the rules. No skin lost there, take my word for it.

You are correct, I didn't consider your sarcasm to be humor ... or comedy for that matter.

My reference to "a laughing matter" was in relation to the "rules of conduct".

That is to say, I don't consider the "rules of conduct to be a "laughing matter".

People trying to get yucks out of it through humor, comedy, sarcasm or misdirection seems inappropriate to me, but that is my viewpoint.

We can only express things from our own viewpoint.

Taking multiple viewpoints into account is generally a way of getting a better understanding of something as long as the observations provided are in honesty and respect.

I have found in gaming environments - if you want to talk about religion or politics, do it in your own group if it is acceptable to that group, but keep it out of communication with the the community as a whole. However, in this game, even in personal chats it is reportable as worded in the code of conduct.

All of what I've bothered to type here isn't directed solely to you, but to those that are taking time to read the whole thread.

99% of your posts that I have read, I have enjoyed reading.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.
