November 1st, 2024 at 9:30 PM Eastern Time - Hence known as R3n4m3M4g3dd0N (re-name-mageddon) Similar to Armageddon, the prophesied location of a gathering of armies for a battle during the end times. As we prepare for renamaggedon. Please confirm a few things: 'Rename' will not trigger a name release. Must be a NEW character! only 'new' characters trigger the name release. Temporal Warriors will never have 'safe names'. Treated as level ones. 30 day limit (that's some excellent new pvp) If a character is renamed and they were a member of a supergroup, they will need to be re-invited. <--this is not troo no loss of their description, battle cry, clearing email/friends lists/sg, etc Any other nuance folks should be aware of? Name Release Characters will be flagged as ‘inactive’ when the following time thresholds are met: Level 1-5 characters will be flagged as inactive if they have not been played in the last 30 days Level 6-49 characters will be flagged as inactive if they have not been played in the last 365 days Level 50 characters will never be flagged as inactive (with the exception of Temporal Warriors) When a character is flagged as inactive they are not immediately renamed. Instead, their name is simply no longer locked. This allows another player to create a character with that name, at which point the original character will be renamed. This flag will be visible on the character select screen. You can remove the inactive flag from a character at any time simply by logging them in. PyroBeetle Posted October 29 Share Posted October 29 I echo the busiest time if the year, I have been taking about an hour every play session to bring another handful of Level 1 toons up to Level 6...all if the names have concepts attached to them and I would be loathe to lose them for when I do get back around to those concepts. You can, however, immediately delete that character (as the name is held for a few minutes) and rename an existing one. 2. True. 3. What you're describing, for clarity if anyone's wondering, is the effect of the manually-run-on-live script, which had all of those side effects (removing from SG, losing email, friends list, etc.) because it archived the character. The new process is essentially an "always on" monitor of the database. The character's not archived, so none of this needs to be broken. As far as other things to be aware of? If "your name" is taken, you'll end up with a number appended to (or if the name's at full length, replacing the last character of) your name. So Superdudeguy will be Superdudeguy 1. Ihaveareallylongnamemanman (if that were the at the limit) would be ihaveareallylongnamemanma1. I don't see it as an issue so much as I don't have as much time to play as I did in 2019, and I do get around to the characters, eventually. I also doubt anybody would want most of the names, but you never know. Call it hording if you wish, but they are concepts and names I came up with and I will eventually get around to them, if the server still exists. Also some of them were names and concepts I had accumulated on live so some of them go back 20 years not 5, and those I may get to, but are absolutely a sentimental horde. Easy enough to make a new toon (reserving the name), then when you are ready you can just delete the new toon and rename the existing character that you wanted to have the name. Edit: Guess I could have read the other replies before chiming in, but oh well. Oh, and one more thing. "Obscure" is probably not quite as obscure as you may think. "F4N74571C M4N" might not have a line of people waiting for the name, but a lot of people that have read comics and/or played comic-inspired games have probably thought of a lot of names for a lot of heroes and villains of their own making over the years, not to mention so many indy comics and lesser-known major-label chaarcters that may be out there. But what makes them having a bunch of lvl 1’s for their desired purpose hoarding and you standing around for hours RPing not hoarding? You’re both effectively playing your way and neither are “playing” the game by the metric of gaining levels and whatnot. So technically both are hoarding.
