VPrime Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Have you created multiple characters with the same powerset? Specifically for Tankers/Brutes/Scrappers. I have multiple character ideas that utilize the same defensive set. For those that have done this, does this impact the fun of the leveling experience? Repeating sets can be just as fun as the initial character - some, even more so. If pairing a different attack set with the same defensive set can really change things on how you a play a character - which is fun to me. And of course, a different character concept, backstory, etc can change how you play it too as well as keep you engaged and having fun, even if one or both of the powersets repeat. Go for it! Make them and have fun! 🙂 1 1
the1egend1ives Posted December 2 Posted December 2 I've gotten characters all the way to level 50, only to remake them with the same powersets, albeit on a different AT, because I discovered they were more powerful. 1
biostem Posted December 2 Posted December 2 1 hour ago, VPrime said: Have you created multiple characters with the same powerset? I will often create a new character based solely upon a particular concept I had in mind, which frequently means, in order to best fit that concept, I'll revisit the exact same AT and powerset combinations that I've used before... 1 hour ago, VPrime said: For those that have done this, does this impact the fun of the leveling experience? TBH, the "leveling process" is less of a concern than the time it takes to get all the windows/binds/macros setup precisely how I like them, for each new character I create... 1 1
Hedgefund Posted December 2 Posted December 2 I queried my spreadsheet and I found (all 50s and t4d, etc) Rad melee & Rad armor, Stalker and Tank Energy melee & Bio Stalker, Scrapper and Tank Time Manip & Fire blast, Corr (live) and Def (HC) As for "impacting the fun", not negatively, in these cases. Tank and Stalker are a very different play experience and even though EM/BIO stalker and scrapper have similarities, it's different enough. 1

Without_Pause Posted December 3 Posted December 3 I've done Claws/ea for Brute and Scrapper. I lean on liking the Scrapper more due to the damage aspect versus the Brute being slower but harder to kill. The Scrapper is hard enough to kill. Top 10 Most Fun 50s. 1. Mighty Matt: Rad/bio Brute. 7. Without Hesitation: Claws/sr Scrapper. 8. Within Reach: Axe/stone Brute. 9. Without Pause: Claws/wp Brute. 10. Chasing Fireworks: Fire/time Controller. MoonSheep Posted December 3 Posted December 3 on live i solo’d a katana/invul scrapper to 50 and enjoyed it so much i did it a second time perhaps its time to do it a third time If you're not dying you're not living
Uun Posted December 3 Posted December 3 I've recreated 3 combinations from Live on HC (MA/Inv scrapper, Dark/Rad defender, TA/Arch defender), although I flipped the defenders to corruptors. Other than that, while I have repeated power sets (Rad Armor, SR, Rad Blast, Ice Blast, Illusion, Nature, Poison, Storm Summoning, Time) I have yet to repeat a combination on HC. Uuniverse
Psyonico Posted December 3 Posted December 3 I've repeated individual sets a number of times (I have a bunch of Trick Arrow and Poison toons, for example) but I've only repeated powerset/AT combos on accident and I usually end up deleting one of them when I realize that I have 2 of them. What this team needs is more Defenders
lemming Posted December 3 Posted December 3 No repeats on AT & powersets, but I do have some repeated powerset combos across ATs. And usually I'll just keep one of those after playing around with them to see which one I like best.
Yomo Kimyata Posted December 3 Posted December 3 20 hours ago, VPrime said: Have you created multiple characters with the same powerset? Very early on I did this because I wanted the same character on different servers since I was feeling out which server I preferred (all of them it turns out). Then there have been a few times I accidentally created more than one character with the same AT, primary, and secondary because it fit a concept and later I realized I had already used those choices on a different concept. One thing I do recommend, if you really like the look and feel of a certain set or matching of sets is to try it out on a different AT. Early in HC I made Staff/Bio as Stalker, Scrapper, Brute, and Tanker and all played a bit different and I enjoyed taking all of them to 50, but some are definitely more enjoyable than others. 1 Who run Bartertown?
Ukase Posted December 4 Posted December 4 On 12/2/2024 at 2:49 PM, VPrime said: For those that have done this, does this impact the fun of the leveling experience? I have made a Shield/XXX of just about every tank available. I've also made a fire/XXX tank of just about every option. So, what it does for me, is it makes the process of creating the build a little faster. The lessons learned from the first (and sometimes the 2nd and 3rd) help things along a little bit. Some secondaries make certain goals with defense or other attributes a bit easier to reach or easier to manage. So, there's always a difference here and there. 1
Jiro Ito Posted December 4 Posted December 4 I didn't realize I had two water/poison corrupters until the second was lvl 50 with incarnates. It was three years apart, and the character concepts were very funny to me, but I don't even like the powerset combo that much. Yup, that's how I roll. 🤪 Play my AE Adventures, listed under @Jiro Ito, including award winners: "The Headless Huntsman of Salamanca" #43870 **Scrapbot AE Contest Winner May 2022** "On the Claw-Tipped Wings of Betrayal" #43524 **November 2021 Dev's Choice** "The Defenders of Talos" #44578 **Mission Architect Competition Winner for October 2021: REBIRTH**

I love shield defense because it is one of the few armor sets that offers a way of making each character with it to feel very unique/distinctive. I only wish that I enjoyed playing it as much as I did design characters that used it...

For those that have done this, does this impact the fun of the leveling experience? For me, fun is not impacted assuming a different second powerset is chosen. I have multiple melee characters utilizing invincible. They each, however, have different second powersets and some are different archetypes. Outside of melee, I do have range and support with duplications. Again, a different second powerset is utilized for each. The timing of the question is curious for me, though. I've two blasters with the primary fire power set. One's secondary is fire, the other's is ice. I was working on upgrading both the other day, put in the same enhancement sets on three different primary powers, and got...very different damage results for each. I've been trying to figure out how that happens, and the amount of time needed to hunt for answers is affecting the fun is having a negative impact.

On 12/2/2024 at 3:49 PM, VPrime said: I have multiple character ideas that utilize the same defensive set. For those that have done this, does this impact the fun of the leveling experience? I'm a character conception player, so generally I don't make a character based on a power set (unless a new power set is coming out and I want to check it out. Sorry, Ars Ass. [https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Arsenal_Assault] and Ars Con [https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Arsenal_Control].) That doesn't mean that I don't have a character conception that doesn't end up with the same power sets, but it is most likely that each of the characters will end up with different power picks and slotting due to character conception. However, most times that I multiverse/clone a character to another server, they end up having slightly different origin story, will have different power set(s), and, many times, won't even be the same archetype. If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore. (It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications) Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case. But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.
TheMoneyMaker Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Different power pools, ancillaries, and even slotting can make it feel different, not to mention power customization change colors, animations, costumes, and weapons.
tidge Posted December 4 Posted December 4 I've created multiple characters with same AT/primary/secondary but very rarely, and only because the later character has a concept that IMO fits best with the "repeat" choice of AT/primary/secondary. Obviously having more than four VEATs an HEATs more-or-less force this circumstance upon players. Specific to melee characters, my thinking is that whatever the new concept is, I can probably roll it as any of Scrapper/Stalker/Tanker. I tend to avoid Brutes, I'm just not crazy about the Fury mechanic... although I have a Savage Scrapper that I am considering re-rolling as a Brute because it already "feels" very much like a Brute. Because each of the melee classes can be made to provide both offense and to be able to survive, for me it comes down to specific power picks and progression in the primary/secondary.
Gobbledigook Posted December 4 Posted December 4 (edited) I have done it but by accident. I made A Shield/BA Tanker for example and got it to 30's to then discover i already had one at 50 lol. Still fun though 🙂 Edited December 4 by Gobbledigook
High_Beam Posted December 4 Posted December 4 I have done it only once, by design but different ATs, a Time/DP Defender and a DP/Time Corruptor. mistagoat Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Well, if you mean same primary and secondary, no. At least not yet. However if you mean using the same armor set multiple time, then very much yes! I will make every combo of Rad Armor Tank! I also have a Rad armor stalker, I have a build ready to go for a Rad armor Brute and the scrapper can't be too far behind. I also have multiple Shield toons across all the ATs that can utilize Shield. I have an Electric/Shield Stalker, Scrapper and Brute. A Fire/Shield Stalker is on deck as soon as I finish up the Rad/Claws tank I'm currently playing. One of the posters above mentioned that it helps speed up the build planning phase, that is so very true! The armor side of the build is mostly worked out so you just have to deal with the attack set and maybe the flavor of the Epic. Though that changes a bit if you bounce between ATs but at least you already know what to aim for. Play a set multiple times and you become intimately familiar with what it needs and how it should be played. I only have 7 Rad Tanks left and I dread the day I finish my last one!
