Octogoat Posted December 13 Posted December 13 I'm burned out on leveling characters. But I don't have the money or time to dedicate to other games and I still enjoy my existing characters I just can't be on with enough continuity to sit down for a task force. RP is a jungle. I'm working on badge hunting ATM but what are some easy to do things I can do that are not leveling or task forces until my burnout with leveling has passed? 1

Don't rush leveling, enjoy the journey. Don't min/max, just be ok. Try something different out of the norm. chill, relax and mostly have fun. 😉 Peace! lol Edited December 13 by Gobbledigook 4

Trying to find new things to do on existing characters. Thanks for the reassurance I'm doing the right thing though now I know I definitely need to stop trying to level. Happy holidays! 1
Without_Pause Posted December 13 Posted December 13 Pick a zone and go through its content. There are definitely some contacts which need to be played on a lower setting if you are doing them for kicks. I just got to the point of trying to T4 builds via Heather's arc and got to the point I just needed a break from the game. Most of my characters are Level 50. All but a few are at least Level 30. I'm getting close to where all of my characters will be Level 50, and I'm just finishing them off, whatever that might mean, and logging in when I just want to play a fun build. Honestly, popping a build onto Beta pretty much covers me wanting to level a build. I don't lack in unplayed Steam games, so I've honestly been more playing over there and doing token logins for CoH. That and playing board games online with people. That can essentially be done for free depending on the games. There's also reading of books which I need to get back to my old pace. I've fallen behind. Plus, a certain series has hit a breaking point, and I need to get started in it. Top 10 Most Fun 50s. 1. Without Mercy: Claws/ea Scrapper. 2. Outsmart: Fort 3. MoonSheep Posted December 13 Posted December 13 most of my time is spent playing two alts that are now over 5 years old - i find running a TF on them just as fun as levelling a new alt If you're not dying you're not living

Take an existing character you enjoy, and use one of their alternate builds to just go wild! Create a build that you'd never consider before, and try some different approaches; Maybe try to make that blaster into the tankiest melee character possible, or how about a melee controller with all the fighting attacks? Experiment, and switch to the main build to help fund it or if it doesn't work out...
Greycat Posted December 13 Posted December 13 RP's better with folks you know... especially in a SG setting, as you can start working out longer term story arcs. Helps writing them on AE (though that has limitations of its own, too.) Honestly, "RP" doesn't even have to involve others. You may have a bit of backstory for a character. Sit down and just ... expand it. You may get ideas for things to do, other characters, things to explore, etc. as you expand that backstory - plus it's stuff for other people to discover. You can do Ouro stuff/ Basically a 1 person TF that you can run 1 mission on, then log and finish it later. There are tons of badges to be had doing the Ouro stuff. Both Ouro specific badges and alll sorts of mission/completion badges. 1
Luminara Posted December 13 Posted December 13 Why are you leveling but? 1 Get busy living... or get busy dying. That's goddamn right.
BurtHutt Posted December 13 Posted December 13 OP, my honest suggestion: stop playing CoX. Take a break. Play some other games - there are lots that are very cheap or free on Steam. HC hasn't put out too much intriguing stuff and it's a lot of the same old so that doesn't help either. Take a break. I'm sure you'll be hungry for this game in a few weeks or so.
High_Beam Posted December 13 Posted December 13 (edited) Try Super Stylist, its a paper doll game that I find calming. Available on both Apple and Android. Its one of the few tappy tap games I have that aren't essentially card games. But watch out, way too many of the "who wore it better" winners have really effed up colored hair. Nerio72 Posted December 13 Posted December 13 You can build in SG as someone mentioned already, do some crafting, do some marketeering, design some costumes to use later (you can make them and save them in Icon and not need to wear them currently, save them for a new toon perhaps) ,hang out in Atlas and chat up people, run some CCs, explore the shadow shard. Or take a break from the game completely. I took a break and played SWTOR for a while, its FTP with limitations. Dig out an old game you already have. I play Civilization games occasionally for something different. Good luck!
COH Radgen Posted December 13 Posted December 13 (edited) I tend to take my fully-end-build 50's and join low level teams. They usually exmp down pretty well, for the most part, and show me where I may need to reconsider when/where I take powers in the build. I try to backstop the lowerbies as they work through the mission because it's way too easy to bust out the "look at me" and take over the team/mission...I mean, I DO try. And you may get to meet some new people, experience arcs you did but don't remember, or, just maybe, have fun again. Cheers! Edited December 14 by COH Radgen 1 @Radgen Mostly on Torch and Ex

Skyhawke Posted December 14 Posted December 14 Also, I agree with taking a break. I play COH a few times a week normally and intermingle console games. Sovera Posted December 14 Posted December 14 Chiming with the others but it sounds like you need a break. I come and play CoH once in a while to level a character even though seldomly all the way to 50, and certainly no longer to even chase incarnates. Make AE story arcs and run them. It is easy enough, pretty time consuming, and you can create the kind of play that you think is interesting. You might even find some fun story arcs (non-farming) in the AE. Base building. You don't have to use the high-end techniques to have fun building bases. they can be pretty time consuming, but you don't have to finish building them in one sitting. Ironblade Posted December 14 Posted December 14 8 hours ago, Octogoat said: I'm burned out on leveling characters. But I don't have the money or time to dedicate to other games Right off, the first sentence confuses me. I almost never "level" characters; I "play" them. The leveling happens on its own. If you're playing with the specific goal of reaching certain levels, then you're doing it wrong - as demonstrated by the fact that you say you're experiencing burnout. The solution here is extremely simple and practically impossible - change your mindset so you're thinking differently about the game. As for not having the time or money for other games - 1) If you play CoH less, that frees up time. 2) Plenty of good games are 'free to play'. Also, some REALLY good games are super cheap. I've got like 1400 hours in Valheim and it's only $10. 2 Originally on Infinity. I have Ironblade on every shard. - My only AE arc: The Origin of Mark IV (ID 48002) Link to the story of Toggle Man, since I keep having to track down my original post.
biostem Posted December 14 Posted December 14 3 minutes ago, Ironblade said: The solution here is extremely simple and practically impossible - change your mindset so you're thinking differently about the game. I think this hits the nail on the head - for me, at least, CoH offers a degree of familiarity, flexibility, and comfort that's hard to get elsewhere, but at the same time, that can lead to boredom and/or tedium. Taking breaks is a good piece of advise others have offered. Similarly, you may want to look at something like Epic games - I'm not endorsing the publisher, but they do offer free games every week, (and not just for some trial period), so it may be worth looking into. There are also other good F2P games out there, or, heck, even some other CoH servers that implemented new and different powersets/ATs...

Leveling is just something that happens. It’s not a goal in its own right. You're burned out because you’re not having fun. I’d suggest picking a character that feels fun to play. Then think about what’s fun for that character to do. And do it! I have a favorite character. My favorite pastime is beating up Nazis. So I’ll do Ouro missions that let me do that. I’m not doing it for experience or influence or drops. I’m doing it because it’s *fun*. The American Dream, Willpower/Kinetic Melee Tanker, Everlasting.
