Best Solo Build?

My Elec/Shield has been quite capable and is a beast now as an Incarnate.  The single target may be lacking a bit but the AOE is fantastic, capable of easily clearing an 8 man spawn in 3-4 attacks.  Any surviving bosses bite it quickly and then you're off to the next spawn.

I solo'd him about 2/3 of the time on the way from 1-50 and didn't run into much that was an issue.  I admit I cheated on the Maria Jenkins arc by keeping the AV's toned down to EB's but it was quick and fun solo.

Guardian Survivor, occasional tanker and player of most AT's.

any/any

no seriously, stalkers solo as well or better than any AT right out of the gate and it only gets better from there.

sets with aoe can look to upping team size  fairly early. sets with st can look to upping difficulty fairly early. Everyone has their favorite.

Secondaries just come down to what you prefer as well. The all deal with incoming damage in their own way and they are all good at it (even fire).

I prefer to have an endurance management tool to reduce downtime. many sets do.

From a solo perspective you'd be hardpressssed to make a bad stalker combo imo.

You can almost always solo a Stalker.
Mission completion usually isn't a problem as you can sneak past most everything.
The problem becomes earning XP...because you sneak past most everything.

Did a Savage Melee/Invuln and it came out pretty ridiculous with an endgame build.

NB/Inv is pretty decent too.  If stealth fails, you can ALWAYS tank your way out...
And Perma-Hasten no less!

I'm soloing 90% of the time on my ice/rad. Ice melee has some control and slows that help calm things down. Frost and Freezing Touch truly are awesome. Rad has early game endurance management, which helps.

As other said, I think you'll have a hard time finding a bad combo though.

The newer primaries have their full AOE damage powers.

The older ones do not.

So Ninja blade will not do as well as something like Street Justice as a generalist.

NB does at least get a decent cone, and the parry power is excellent.  And it looks cool as hell, with one of the best Assasin's Strike animations    ST damage is very good.

Maybe self advertisement is not the best way but i made a guide exactly for people like you. I even suspected you to play ninja/ninja and included a example build without winter sets or purples but still perma hasten. Just take a look in my signature.

Also the other posters are right. You can take any combination to solo anything. I had troubles to solo Battlemaiden on my Elec/Shield (still did it)  but was easy on my StJ/Shield. Both did it but it took too long and the hydra pylons was a pain in the ass. It took ~30Minutes at this point you can just look for at least one or two more and do it much faster. But if you like solo challenges, i do understand that.

I second this, I recently rolled an elec shield stalker and its amazing.

I open with lightning rod and shield charge which doesnt break hide, then AS a lot of the times at thos point I have gotten then As Mark proc to fire and have 2 build ups running so I am viciously slaughtering the remaining mob as they stand there borderline confused as to what to do about me.  Some stronger bosses or elite bosses figure it out at this point and go one on one with me but at that point it's too late and I'm usually dragging hectors lifeless body around the gates of troy a few moments later.

Yeah it's so fun. lol. Its scrapper lock and extreme hide and seek rolled into 1.

I messed with a stalker for SC back on live, and never really got serious until recently.

I now have a EM/EA that is my badger, pvp, and merit farmer.

I also have an Ele/SD that also shows great potential.

Ultimately though its going to be up to you, I suggest you try stuff that attracts you and give it a whirl.

It really depends on what you mean by 'solo build'.

Any Stalker can sneak around and complete missions.

No Stalker is particularly good at AE damage. With relative small radii, low target caps, no taunt aura and limited AE options, Stalkers have the worst AE performance out of the 4 melee AT. They're also generally going to be worse than Defenders/Corruptors (presuming the Defenders/Corruptors are trying to do AE damage).

The last issue is killing that final boss (who may be an AV/GM). While Stalkers excel at single target damage, they're defensively the weakest of the ATs with an actual armor set. Building a Stalker who can withstand an arbitrary selection of standard AV/GM at equal level is entirely possible. Custom-fitting your Stalker for a specific difficult Av/GM is certainly possible. But building a Stalker who can randomly pick a +4 Task Force and defeat the final AV/GM? That's pretty much impossible. Their defenses just have too many holes.

If I had to pick, it would probably be Psi/Ninjitsu for qualitative reasons that have nothing to do with dps/mitigation - features like Boggle, Smoke Flash and Blinding Powder that allow you to do things you otherwise couldn't. However, it's not the kind of build you take into a fire farm to grind out levels.

I do not like to be negative with my comments here. I will try to tell you here something what i did and not what people can not do, like posters above have done.

That is why i want to say that i have played recently my EM/EnA Stalker a lot. My only AE damage Powers are Power Crash and Lightning Ball which comes very late.

I soloed, the task force commander. (Yes, all of the TFs) Also i did the respec trials (again all of them). I have done the beast under the mountain and the sky riders TF on red side solo. I am sure i could do some more but i ended up teaming other TFs because, they had been weekly recently (ML, LRSF). i have to admit i did them on initial level, that is +1?. But just because i wanted to do it fast. I have no idea who is soloing TF and do it at +4. Most teams do not run TF at +4, because a lot of people just want to complete it quickly. In all of the TF i have done, the only one giving me trouble was Dr. Vashilok. And with trouble i mean i died once. The other TF all could have been Master of, but i do not use any modifications, i just start the TFs.

With other Stalkers in the past, i have soloed Apex, Tin Mage and LRSF too. I am sure i could do some more. And in all of my Stalkers builds i completely Skip Powers like Boggle, Smoke Flash and Blinding Powder. If someone ever argues to pick these Powers because they are enablers for specific things. I would say that is a big noob trap and do not listen to any advice that these person gives to you.

Just because you don't know how to use a power doesn't make it useless.

I'd think the value of Confuse would be obvious. The value of AE Placate is quite a bit more subtle, but it allows you to separate spawns, provides a defensive cooldown and makes for a decent panic button.

Blinding Powder is admittedly a weak power given its short range and cone nature - it's certainly not Smoke/Trick Arrow.

With that in mind, you might consider focusing less on what powers do than how they can be slotted. IO sets are where you're going to get most of your defense and virtually all of your recharge, so it's important to keep slotting in mind when you're comparing the value of powers and power sets.

I don't see where Croax said that. However he did point out very specific scenarios (soloing Apex, TinM, LRSF), and I don't think arguing vague general statements make for convincing rebuttals.

i.e., the value of Confuse is not obvious to me, because the main threats of these task forces are level 53 and 54 groups of archvillains where you'd need mag4+ confuse to confuse them, and only during the short window of time purple triangles are down.

More importantly, there are opportunity costs to every action. You have to deal 400+ DPS to make decent progress when everything is factored. Spending ~2 seconds on a nondamaging Boggle cast is devastating to your damage output.

Addendum... I think any player capable of soloing Apex/TinM/LRSF on a stalker is well aware confuse sets have juicy set bonuses...  You're preaching "tier2" build knowledge to someone who is likely operating at "tier3" or "tier4" build knowledge. We are not talking about the Citadel task force here. To get to that next level, you often need to move beyond a conventional defense/recharge bonus chase, and into proc-loaded attack chains and squeezing every slot to maximum potential.

FWIW I love Boggle and will always find excuses to include it in my build and to use it. These are just that, excuses. Boggle has marginal uses against anything that matters. The best you miiiight be able to argue here is confusing Penelope, simply because her damage is so absurd she is sometimes able to kill the weaker members of the Phalanx even just during her purple triangle downtimes.

Which would constitute a qualitative advantage. The various Stalker primaries are virtually identical (with some outliers on the negative side) in terms of potential ST damage against an arbitrary target. None of the Stalker secondaries add appreciable amounts of ST damage to the equation. So the choices you need to make generally come down to issues like slotting efficiency and qualitative benefits, rather than dps metrics.
