Best overall tank build for all the game content??

Gotta go with the classic Inv/SS, but there are many other combos that are just as tanky.  Almost any Inv combo, Stone combo and Shield combo can be made virtually indestructible, in the absence of unresistable damage (like the blue patches in TinPex).  Key is to have plenty of DDR, for any defense-based build.  Props to @Infinitum and @Hyperstrike for the template that I used for NUTCRCKR, and I run him, when the team needs a "max" tank.  He is also built to support the SG in fire farming...so there's that.  Other than not paying attention, during the last TinPex for Tanker Tuesday, I cannot remember the last time he was defeated.  Tanks +4/8 ITFs, without breaking a sweat.  Even without incarnates (but with Invincibility saturated w/ 10 targets), the defense numbers are just silly:

Super Reflexes is easy to build, light on slotting, and will make you immortal without purple sets provided you take all the powers except Elude. The autopowers ARE important as they give you scaling damage resist that will make you eventually just stop taking damage. For this reason, the best thing to build for with set bonuses as a SR tanker is max HP, as that will give you a bigger buffer when you're at low health and all of your resists are capped (save psi/tox). Elude is a waste of a power choice and can safely be skipped.

Don't listen to anyone who tells you "lol u die in 1 hit lmao", they have never played a SR tanker in their lives, or maybe they did but they skipped the autopowers and of course they're going to die if they're missing a critical part of their mitigation. You also do not have to worry about defense debuffs as you have the best defense debuff resistance in the game.

Pictured is my personal SR build at max health. I've helped out on fire farms with this character and once I reach about 25-30% HP I just don't take any more damage. With purple sets you will have even more psi/tox resist but I don't bother because it's not necessary unless you're fighting Seers at +4 x8 or something, in which case just pop oranges lmao.

For the Primary i would probably go with /Shield Defence. Capped defences with high DDR and decent resists plus extra damage and an attack is hard to beat.

SR and Invuln are good also but so are all Tanker primaries.

For the secondary i would go Super Strength but as they may not work the best with /Shield due to the crash i would vote War mace next. Decent single and AoE damage that can slot FF procs and has good CC.

Energy Melee is good for single target though if you prefer that over better AoE.

I'll add more praise for Invuln. For easy playing pure tankiness, I'd say Invuln/MA for the extra defense, but it's probably overkill on a team, and arguably overkill solo since you can get such good defense without it. I've played it, but play Shield/MA instead for my main. Invuln/MA was tankier, but Shield/MA puts out noticeably more damage without giving up too much on the survivability front, and I like more damage because I spend more time solo than as a team tank. But at least Shield has the nice team defense boost, and I combined it with Darkest Night's to-hit debuff. I'd probably stick with Shield/MA even if I was mostly team tanking, and just assume team buffs would make up for any relative weakness on the survivability front. "Relative" is the important word here. Shield/MA can just about sleep walk through a solo +4x8 ITF, enemies buffed no temps no insps no deaths. My Invuln/MA couldn't do it, but only because it doesn't have the solo damage output for all the AVs. It definitely has the survivability. So did my friend's Invuln/SS. And Foot Stomp is so, so satisfying. But so is Shield Charge. Unsure how Shield is at tanking Hami. I know Invuln can.

*nods in agreement.

Invulnerabiity.  Very easy going.  Easy to pick up and play.  Nice res.  Nice to hit.  Nice defence boost when surrounded by mob.  I played one on Live Invul/Energy.  Grindy on the damage.  And the latter on HC.  Energy is now single target 'light's out' on Single Target.  It's AoE is decent due to the tank buffs and energy revamp for Whirling Hands and Energy Crash (which I have procc'd out.)  Far less grindy.  You'd notice the 'bring it' dam' difference.

Shield MA.  Very good tank.  Just finished building mine out.  The only thing missed is perhaps a heal for MOAR surviva.  Ageless Radial Rebirth, mm?

Hmm.  The Shield/War Mace idea is a good one.  Shield Charge and Crowd control.  Ouch.

Though Energy Melee might also be a contender since it's revamp!

Thanks for sharing this awesome build. Actually made me log on and start playing again!

I've some basic questions;

  • Does Rage stack if it's recharge is low enough?
  • Is there a way to have Hasten/Rage/Dull Pain auto-refresh? (Think I can only auto-refresh one of)
  • Will it be a decent build for farming? (even just normal IO's to begin with) I'd have to work on getting the INF for this build, it looks expensive.
  • I'm totally confused about the Tanker passive, seems different to live. I assume all powers have a high taunt value.

Rage does not stack, with my build, but the downtime is only as long as the 10 sec. delay in damage, so it works out well.

Only one.  I have Hasten on auto-activation.  Not a very "clicky" combo, so having to watch for Rage is no big deal.  I don't ever need Dull Pain, unless it's to cover blue patches or the other rare unresistable damages.

Slow to solo farm, but is a boon to any farm for the herding ability.  I have two accounts and put NUT on follow, with Footstomp on auto, and dual box with my Spines/Fire Brute.  Drops a +4/8 Big Mobs Tunnel fire farm by about 3-5 min. vs solo with the broot.

Yeah, 8-900 million build, but well worth it.

I can't speak to a way to get all three to swap the "auto" ring between them, but here is how to get two of them to swap.  Not full auto, as you'll want to keep an eye on which one has the ring and nudge the appropriate movement key to move the ring as needed:

W "+forward$$powexecauto Hasten$$powexecauto Rage"
A "+left$$powexecauto Hasten$$powexecauto Rage"
S "+backward$$powexecauto Rage$$powexecauto Hasten"
D "+right$$powexecauto Rage$$powexecauto Hasten"

Swap Rage for Dull Pain if you would rather have that one on auto.

Edit: Those are written assuming they'll be saved into a file and loaded into game using /loadbindfile.  To enter them manually in game chat use /bind before each line and enter them one by one.

I was going to ask if SR and Invuln can tank Hami. I haven't seen what people take to Hami raids and on LGTF it seems to be luck of the draw who dies.

On Hamidon, neither defense or resistance does anything. It's all untyped damage and being in the goo has -heal. So the best hamidon tanks have tons of health, regeneration, and unresistable self-heals.

Also, Hamidon entirely ignores absorption.

Most folks don't like the granite penalties, but Stone Armor is as tanky as it gets and the teleportation revamp makes movement not too bad. I have builds for Stone/SS, Stone/Ice (AoE and absorb king), and Stone/MA that chase Psi resistance while having over-softcapped defense, max health and 400+% regen. Here is an example of the Stone/MA where 32.5% psi defense is achieved and 90% resistance to all with 2 ATO procs.

Darkest Night is there for additional protection, more so for teammates.

I found the file in my phone so I can't open it to check numbers. But hopefully this is the correct version.

Edit: found a screenshot when i posted this before on the forums. This is with no incarnates selected.
